Dr. John H. Watson is a fictional former army physician, Sherlock Holmes' best friend and confidant, assistant, flatmate, and aspiring blogger. He was created by Scottish writer and physician, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Watson is described as a classic Victorian-era gentleman, unlike the more eccentric Holmes. He is astute and intelligent, and although he fails to match his friend's deductive skills, he serves as the basic narrative and surrogate audience for the modern mastermind and the world's first and only consulting detective. Watson functions as a catalyst for Holmes's mental processes, posing as an outside perspective, making all the right, albeit clueless statements, contributions, and representing someone to whom the detective can make enigmatic remarks toward. John stands as a consciousness that's privy to facts in the case without being in on the conclusions drawn from them until Holmes grants his dramatic reveal. Originally having pursued criminals throughout Victorian and Edwardian London, the south of England, and continental Europe, John Watson's representation portrayed here is a modern depiction, taking place in present times and heavily based off of the BBC series Sherlock. There is an assortment of liberties taken with this character based on other works of literature, published theories, perspectives, and other such portrayals elsewhere, but the character mostly remains the same.
