The Town We Reside
Nant Gwrtheyrn was thought to be an abandoned village in the 1970s following the closure of the quarries. The redundant houses, offices, chapel and shops constructed during the quarry's heyday between 1860 and 1920, when over 2,000 men worked the granite, had fallen into rack and ruin. The rumor of the town's abandonment was perpetuated so it would stay abandoned.
Who took over the town, you might ask?
The two most powerful and successful family of hunters to walk the Earth. The Knights and the Vanguards. The two head of the families, and when we say families, it is not meant in the mob way. You are born into one of the two families, you marry in, or you find a witch that will connect you to the powers granted to both the Knights and the Vanguards - no other way in.
When the heads of the families declared Nant Gwrtheyrn our official dwelling, we were finally able to bring the scattered nuclear families from all over Europe so we could live, train, and grow together. The incoming families took over the empty houses and made them their own. We took over the shops to provide everyone with training centers, a medical clinic, and a dining hall one of the dines had been converted into, though it was acceptable to pick up food and take it to your house. The families weren't required to be together twenty-four/seven. There was even a grocery store, but you have to order your groceries three days in advance of needing them so a group could go to the nearby towns to pick up the items.

You might be asking yourself, who is providing this insight into the secret world of the Hunters?
My name is Cadfael Vanguard. Yes, I know. What the most incredible fuck is the name: Cadfael. It is a Welsh name meaning “battle prince”, which is my birth right. I was born the first cousin of Oliver and Serenity Vanguard, who are the brother and sister destined to lead the Vanguard family for the next generation. The problem with this is, and this is top secret mind you, Oliver is an idiot, and no one in the family respects Serenity since her...werewolf "encounter." Yeah, it's a thing. Not going to go into it here, though. I am talking about myself, not family drama, which there is a ton of. Anyway, I am the unspoken hero of the Vanguard family as when the current head of the family passes, everyone anticipates Oliver will screw up and Serenity won't be trusted enough to lead. Trusted enough to continue to fight, absolutely, but lead? No.
Oh, there is it. You're judging me. Let me be clear. I love my cousins and I will protect them until I breathe my last breath, but the family is hesitant with them carrying the torch to lead us forward. Oliver is reactionary and hard to reason with, while Serenity is...well, she's bloody brilliant. She is the unsung, hero of this family. But image still plays a huge role in a family like ours and hers is, nicely put, tarnished.
I, however, am a spotless specimen of exactly what a Vanguard should be. Hey! I am not bragging. I am not a tosser, either. I am a bloke that has worked very hard and sacrificed all resemblance of a personal life to keep this image. It is a choice I made when I was still too young to really understand the full capacity of the vow I was making to myself. Much like the small child that proclaims they wish to become a priest and carry that dream with them into adulthood. I carried the dream of being the ideal Vanguard, and I have achieved it.
Now, at the age of twenty-seven it is becoming harder. I am supposed to marry a Knight to bond the family and create stronger hunters. Only problem is, the Knights do not have very many girls in their family, so the pickings are slim to non-existent. Without a Knight for a bride, I am not sure how my future could possibly be as secured as I would like it to be. -
