Thanatos

Too old to count, not that Gods ever keep track in the first place. Thanatos is a shell of what he once was. People no longer require him to die, rendering him practically obsolete. In order to survive he takes what he can get when it comes to souls {without Hades noticing}, living a meager existence. How ironic that Death now comes to be wary of his own end.

As the world changed and transformed, technology surpassed what was once believed to only exist within dreams & fantasy. Although Death much prefers the realm of magic and alchemy. After all, Death is simple. An elegant solution to Life's beautiful lie. Facing his own end, scraping together what energy he could over millennia, Thanatos is now quite lively and full of cheek. However, that is a reality solely reserved for one: Ares, the God of War & personification of violence and brutality.

Over the course of time, Thanatos has changed faces, and now bodies, so many times that he is not particularly attached to his appearance. Since the birth of Utopia, his existence has been rather lacking, slowly draining of energy due to being deprived of souls. In an act of desperation, {and arguably genius}, Thanatos made a bold proposition to the temperamental God of War. In exchange for souls he would provide companionship, and an outlet to ease the Brute's constantly fluctuating boredom as well as sanity.

To save his energy so that he could grow from the emaciated waif Thanatos was becoming, he would take on the form of a large hound, seemingly born from Cerberus. After all, who would question Ares being in possession of a dog that looked ravenous for blood? The God of Death can no longer remember clearly when he wasn't in this agreement for survival, though it might have something to do with the residual psychosis he gained when he & Ares first tied themselves together in this fashion.

As time goes on, Thanatos is rarely not by Ares' side, though his existence as this hellish Hound is not known to anyone outside of the two gods. Because of that there is as much rumour surrounding what has become of Thanatos as there is where Ares acquired his hound and what it is, though these rumours never coincide. Death is War's loyal companion, and true to mythos, it wouldn't be the first time Sleep's twin required Ares' assistance.*

Perhaps there is diligence & fealty to be found in Bloodlust as well, as when they are apart a vital thread feels odd. Though don't go expecting Death & War to have good communication skills. While they share many things, {not that much of it can be helped}, there are things they never discuss such as Ares petting Thanatos in his canine form, the fact that they share a bed much like you might with your pet or that there is no sense of modesty in the place they both call home.
