Backstory:
Malric Emberford was found on the streets as a boy and taken in by a wandering culinary master who taught him not just the art of cooking, but the philosophy of it: “A good meal can mend what magic can’t.” He began adventuring at sixteen, combining combat skill with a knack for battlefield cooking—meals that restored energy, healed the sick, and boosted morale.
Years passed. His reputation as a divine cook grew... along with tensions in his party. The leader, threatened by Malric’s rising favor—especially with a certain woman’s heart leaning toward the chef—cast him out. No farewell. No thanks. Just gone.
Rather than grow bitter, Malric took it as a sign. Now, years later, he’s arrived in a frontier town bustling with adventurers, mercenaries, and wanderers. In the heart of the market district, he’s found an abandoned building—a small, weather-worn structure with sliding doors and a sturdy wooden counter. A perfect start for an izakaya.
Now?
Malric’s staying at the inn while slowly fixing up the building, earning coin by cooking for travelers in the meantime. He dreams of opening the doors soon—serving grilled skewers, hot broth, cold ale, and the kind of comfort only found in food that’s made from the heart.
Maybe he’ll find an apprentice to pass his secrets to. Maybe even a love he never thought he'd deserve.
