Watching Glass
Mighty are the magics of our mirrors. Oft they are heirlooms, having been handed down from mother to daughter for as long as most can remember.
They are potent magical artifacts, crafted from moonlight mixed with silver. They are called 'Watching Glasses', for they show us what is yet to come. Terrible tempests, the location of the drowned or signs of things that may yet come to pass.
Powerful as they are, we may chant storm songs and breathe across the mirror to summon lighting and powerful storms to sweep across the ocean. They offer a window into the world of the landfolk, but be wary of its use; for gazing too long into the reflection of the mirror may make one sigh with heart wrenching desire to be among the humans on land, and forget the beautiful ocean that is home.

Conch Shell
The Conch Shell is rumored to be an item of mighty power indeed. Yet in most merfolk's hands it is but a shell, pretty and flawless but just a shell all the same. Triton was said to rule the seas by raising the shell to his sea-flecked, bearded lips, blasting forth its song. And so did the waves obey his call, bringing tides to the world's shores.
Perhaps some merfolk dream of such power; most rejoice the magic they imbue themselves. Those who mingle with the landfolk may share the shell with loved ones, so that one gentle blow to the spiraled tool may whisper in her ear and unite them once again.

Perched on a glistening rock ashore, waves frothing and crashing below; a mermaid pictured this way is not complete without a comb taken to her hair. Crafted from shells and bones and adorned with pearls they are beautiful ornaments used and worn proudly.
Yet their purpose is not only for vanity. Mermaid hair, so precious and delicate, requires proper care if it is to stay so. Special oil glands at the roots ensure that neither salt water nor the sun damage her luscious locks, provided she combs thoroughly every day. Mermaid hair symbolizes beauty and sensuality. It is no wonder they are said to be descendants of Venus herself.
