Back Story

Jurini "Juri" Caydence Fenris was born within the land of Galt in the city of Litran to a human father and a demon mother who had fallen in love. The first five years of her life, Juri was loved and she was cared for by her parents -- each in their own unique way. However, not everything was to remain happy and carefree in Jurini's young life. There was a rumour that the Grey Gardeners were at work once again, and when Jurini's parents were getting ready to flee Litran, that was when they mysterious assailants struck.
Jurini can recall the moment a few weeks before her sixth birthday when the rumoured Grey Gardeners had broken down the door and had slain first her father, and then her mother. While there was a violent fight going on between the assumed Grey Gardeners and Juri's father at first, it was Jurini's mother that had hid the young Tiefling away, though to no avail after she had been struck down. Jurini had been found by the people that attacked the home and apparently had plans for her.
Trafficked through varying people, and learning to stay silenced in fear of being struck, Jurini had kept quiet, though found solace in the others like her that were also captured and soon to be sold to varying slave owners across the lands until she had ended up within Daggermark in the River Kingdoms. Juri had been bought up with another Tiefling woman that seemed to have a soft spot for the young girl that had to witness such a brutal execution of her parents. This seemed fortunate enough for Juri, especially seeing as the other Tiefling woman that took her under her wing also taught her how to read and speak different languages, and also taught her how to write.
Of course, these were things that had to happen when no one else knew about it, so the woman that watched over Jurini made sure that their lessons were in private, and told Juri to pretend not to know as much as she had learned when in service to their new owners. This was something that Jurini complied to rather easily after some time, and she had started to become more and more versed in keeping a happy facade going while in service to their owners that had no problem whipping both Juri and her guardian Tiefling for some of the most easily made mistakes at times.
Over time, three or four scars became six or seven... some became a few... few became several... and then several became more than Juri wanted to count in her nearly two decades of servitude. If there was one thing that the slave owners kept to doing, it was always striking the slaves so that their welts, scabs, lashes, and scars could not have been seen by the public eye -- as they were not meant to be seen as slaves, but hired maids.
The abuse soon became too much for the older Tiefling that looked out for Juri, and eventually... Juri never saw that Tiefling return, and she was soon on her own with the other Elven and Tiefling slaves that the owner had come to accumulate over the duration of Juri's stay. While she got along with the other slaves, the one that helped raised her further would have always had a special place in her heart.
Another decade or so had passed before the mansion where Jurini had serviced had been broken into, and the residents were in an uproar. Guards had been called, and several of the slaves had started to worry what were to happen to them if they were to go unnoticed. However, a group of three people dressed in odd animalistic masks and long cloaks had come downstairs into the cellars where the slaves were kept, and each of the locks on the iron doors had been picked and the slaves were free. While many of the slaves seemed to be overjoyed with getting out -- they thanked their saviors, and left the estate.
Jurini, on the other hand, feeling a little odd about the escape, she had approached one of the masked rescuers before simply asking them, "... where am I to go after I have been freed? Everyone I know here had been stripped of their homes and sold to these beasts that locked us away here to serve them."
"And what of you?" the masked man had asked in retort to Jurini.
"My home was stripped of me, rather than the other way around," was the response that Jurini gave. "I have no one to return to."
With as little time as the group claimed that they had, there was no time to sit down and go over twenty questions with Juri. Rather than leave her there, the man that she had question simply hoisted her up and brought her with him to exiting the building. When they had been on the trail to leaving the place, a section of the house had been blown to bits, followed by some other explosions. From the look of things, whoever had done their job did it so that the house blew with a flurry of fireworks being launched into the sky as well.
When Jurini had been taken to a safer location with the group, she noticed that some of the other slaves had also been lead to the clearing as well. It was here that she had then become sceptical until their saviors had unveiled themselves before them. The man that had carried her down here had been a half-elf man with dark skin and white hair, and even some of the other people that unveiled themselves had been of other, more discriminated races. Most of them being Tieflings as well with the occasional human.
Some of the slaves that had not come from more discriminated backgrounds were taken back to where it would be more ideal for them to fit in, whereas some of the slave Tieflings had gone ahead to offer their services to those that saved them. Juri, on the other hand, was one of the few that seemed to go where the flow took her, and that was with the white-haired half-elf man that did not seem to be as open or as sociable as the others. It was with this man that Juri seemed to take more of a liking to. If anything, she enjoyed the fact that he always seemed to listen to her when she spoke.
However, the more that Juri spoke with the man, who soon revealed his name as Felvalian, she soon learned more from him than she would have learned being a slave for those Humans that had a hold of her at the time. Felvalian (or just Vale) had taught her how to wield three different weapons, and taught her the basics in her stance, and bodily control when using these items. Jurini was taught to keep a dagger concealed on her at all times for emergencies, a sword for when you wished to have some distance on your enemy, and a crossbow for when you had to pick off opposition from a distance.
Juri valued these lessons with Vale, and thanked him for his knowledge... and while Jurini wanted to learn more from him, she felt that she needed to travel and learn even more and get more life experiences under her belt. Valian wished her the best on her journey, and even fronted up a sizable amount of gold, silver, and copper pieces to get her started and on her way -- before that, he had managed to outfit her with a small number of clothes, as well as some beaten up, old leather armour that was still usable. To top that all off, Felvalian gave Juri one last set of gifts, and that was a reversible cloak that was navy on one side, and a white-blue on the other -- to hold it together more securely, Felvalian also gave Jurini a brooch that looked like a silver flame.
For a moment, Juri almost reconsidered staying with him and the others that had saved her, or the other slaves that she had grown up with, though quickly shook off this feeling and went ahead with what she said she was going to do. Jurini travelled through many of the River Kingdoms' roads and through small towns. Of course, she also still dealt with a number of prejudice, and some very racist people. All the while, however, Juri told herself that she would keep a smile on her face, and keep persevering throughout the lands. In her travels, she also helped many people that were less fortunate than her, and even took on odd jobs and pickpocketed from richer people to help pay for food or temporary housing for homeless, or abused people that she met in her travels.
Now, Jurini resides -- somewhat -- in Mivon of the River Kingdoms. While it is a little harder for her to actually get along with anyone there, she still makes the attempt. With a lot of the things that she had already endured, she could endure random people spitting in her direction, or making derogatory remarks her way.
