A genius scientist and inventor by both day, night, and all the space and time in between the two, one of the first impressions someone might get of Rick, beyond his complete and utter disregard for everyone but himself, was that the man was an absolute genius. A very resourceful person, by far, Rick's talent lies in his abilities to pull inventions out of his ass in minutes or hours flat, even if given just the basic of things he needs to do such. He's definitely not a person you'd want to invite into your home if he didn't like you or if you didn't like him or vice versa. Not only would he probably end up cursing your head off, he might very well hot wire your microwave or TV to implode in on itself when you switch to your favorite show. Well, alright, maybe that's a bit much, but, well.. let's just say his choice of shit he'll make your TV play when he's long gone might have everyone in the neighborhood questioning.
But, Rick isn't without his faults. His attitude doesn't gain him many friends and the only people he really even bothers to open up to (relatively speaking) are his family. He isn't the type to get personal, and definitely not with strangers, but if you're talking booze, partying, and sex, he's all for it. When you're a Rick, who the fuck cares about that shit, amIrite? Rick carries little regard for most sentient life. A very self serving, self centered individual, Rick does't bother hiding what's on his mind. If he dislikes you, you bet you're going to know it, and fast. If not by words, then by force. People die, it happens all the time, and while not the type to thrill kill at all, understanding that killing is or is not necessary for survival. You will be no skin off his back if he has to. Luckily, he isn't blood thirsty at all.. most of the time.
His attitude comes off as someone who doesn't give two literal fucks, and you'd be exactly right to think that: Rick is all about not giving a fucking fuck. About anything. He cares about his inventions and himself, that's about it. He says what's on his mind and openly insults people if it really comes across that bridge. A very high strung individual, with no regard to what anyone thinks of him (on the outside, anyway), he'll say what's on his mind and mean it. If he sounds sexist, racist, ableist, well, tough luck on you guys, right? Or, that's the view most people get. His grandson? A much different story. Come anywhere near him, especially with intention of violence or harm, and he'll have a gun pressed firmly against your forehead before you can whisper 'shit.' But he isn't all bad. Just self centered, self loathing, self everything. He's a very cynical individual who would rather drown everything in partying, booze, adventures, and off-world and off-dimensions mishappenings rather than face a truth he buries underneath ocean-level pools of liquor, women, and drugs.Whatever it took to drive the pain away.What pain? Rick Sanchez has no pain, motherfucker!
And then, there's the flask. His trusty metal flask is always kept in pristine condition, not a singular dent or scratch is on it, even with all the bullshit he gets himself and his grandson into. A self loathing individual deep down, he buries his emotional pain in bitches and drowns his sorrows in the finest whiskey he can grab on the market. And if anyone ever had the balls to ask him about it? Well, Rick is a master of both straight answers and not. Nobody needs to know about his depressive tendencies or his anarchist actions, or the fact he, on several occasions, held a gun to his head.
Life goes on.
And, of course, why would he gives a shit about any of that?

History
PLEASE NOTE THAT MUCH OF THIS IS SPECULATION AND NOT CANON, OR WAS STUFF THAT WAS PLAYED/PLANNED OUT IN ROLE PLAY
Telling from Rick's personality and first impressions, most people wouldn't bother figuring out a history for the bastard. Those who know him or dig deep enough might find out he use to be in a rock band with one of his oldest and only true friends. They might find out he had been in a dying marriage, they might find out he fucked up and had a kid, they might find out that he probably left when she was real young. They might find out that he's always been a genius, even at young age, and they might find out that his first portal gun test was at a young age and landed him in a different dimension for a while.
!!! CROSS OVER/AU/SPOILER WARNING !!!They might even figure out he stumbled across a dimension with another older man, who wrote three journals about the paranormal and was trapped in another dimension. They might figure out that, despite the irony of the story, Rick grew rather fond of him as an almost scientific equal. And that they might, maybe, perhaps, actually be pretty rad as fuck friends.
And then they might find out that he once fucked up Morty's cat Patches enough to turn him into a cat hellspawn of a demon. He'd never admit that to his grandson, though. For all Morty knows, Patches was still normal. And if that person dug really deep, well, they'd figure out that the stupid ass cat slipped up one day. And he'd never tell anyone that having his grandson bitch at him for killing his cat on accident and then not talking to him for a week straight drove him to the point of drinking almost an entire liquor store to drown the pain. Why would he need to? His grandson yells at him all the time, he ain't even tripping, dog.
But good luck trying to get him to tell you anything about it. As far as he's concerned, his history is nothing but bullshit, and is definitely not your bullshit to know or get interfered. He'll never upfront tell you anything about himself that isn't snarky, rude, or abrupt, and that includes trying to become friends with most people, especially if they aren't of any real importance to him. Drug traffickers, mercenaries, other world and Satan-knows-what, are only kept in his history because they're important to him.
And you? Well, you might be dispensible, and you might not be. Chances are, unless he cares enough to remember your name or even what you look like, you're just another face in the god damn crowd to him.

!!! HEADCANON/THEORY WARNING !!!Rick actually isn't native to the dimension he's in, but rather a different dimension where both his grandkids ended up getting killed, and likely by his hands, either on purpose or by accident. Something happen in his dimension that made him permanently flee it, into one where the Rick had long since died (hence his 'absence' for a long time in the canon verse, where as in Rick's dimension he still occasionally visited the family, especially to see Morty, explaining the pictures on the wall in Birdperson's house even though Beth had said he'd 'left for a long time.') However this is a deep dark secret that he hides very well, and nobody else but him and the Council of Ricks (?) knows about it. He still goes by U-239-D??, though this is his home dimension's name and not the one he's currently in. He's suspected to have dimension hopped/switched families at least eight (8) times running from the galactic federation, which has left him pretty jaded about the entire thing.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE VERSION I PLAY IS NOT ACTUALLY C-137 (SHOW VERSE) UNLESS SPECIFIED OR ASKED, BUT RATHER IS AN ALTERNATE VERSION OF RICK FROM A DIMENSION NAMED U-239. HE RESIDES IN C-192 CURRENTLY BUT THIS IS NOT HIS HOME DIMENSION. My version, however, is basically the same, except he's been on the run from the federation for years. He 'took over' Earth Dimension C-192 after killing the Rick within it. Nobody but himself knows what happen to this Rick and he sure as hell won't tell anyone. The events in Rick Potion #9 were also fixed vs him just fleeing the dimension, as he was too attached to be able to start over versus the other Ricks that might have simply fled.
COUNCIL/DIMENSION (U-239) INFORMATIONU-239-D26 (the 'D##' being the number of times he's jumped dimensions; he's always called U-239, however, and the last bit is purely there for council references only) and the Council have a history together, and it's not particularly a good one. Because he's known to flee dimensions at any and every wrong turn, primarily to run from the federation, U-239 gets a name from the council and it's usually never a good one. While not as bad as some other Ricks out there, C-137, for instance, he's not exactly brought up in a friendly manner, either.
He's a renegade Rick who was known to flee from his dimension if he couldn't fix it or when the galactic federation was closing in on his location, replacing himself in others without questions asked, either by killing the Rick of said dimension or taking their place after they disappeared, presumably dead. He's done this several times, and his immense knowledge of it has left him incredibly jaded and a bit paranoid, especially in regards to his attachment to his current family. Because of this, the council often looks at him in bad ways. He's talked down to, was previously known to be wanted, and had, until recently (week or two recently), been known to be considered a threat. The Council kept immediate tabs on U-239, tracking every time he went on the run, until finally contacting him one day to tease and taunt him with questions about why he was running, after the galactic federation finally homed in on a planet in his current dimension, C-192, after living in peace for almost three years.
At this point, he was pushed promptly into a corner, between a rock and a hard place: it was lose his family or suck up his pride and become a council Rick. Realizing his attachment to his family, especially his Morty, U-239 had came to a sudden epiphany: he couldn't keep this up. It was either lose his family by jumping dimensions again, lose his family by getting caught, or keep to his dimension by joining the council. U-239 did a thing that no Rick of his status should have ever done: he got too attached, and he regularly hates himself for it. Sucking up his hatred for the council and the pride for himself, he soon pleaded for diplomatic safety.
Confused by the turn of events, U-239 was originally turned down for his apparent 'crimes against Rickmanity,' but was later dragged to the citadel, along with his Morty, to be administered into the council, just hours before the federation raided his home to take him in. Despite his record still being hot, U-239 currently has a level of diplomatic immunity, preventing him from being arrested, though he's still in the process of patching his record up with the council itself, including hostility, a few counts of homicide, and a few others. Luckily, all of the ones (or most) of the Ricks he killed weren't a part of it, so this isn't as major as it would be otherwise. Still not good, though.
However, even though he's a part of the council, U-239 doesn't seem to like it at all. He's often berated and looked down upon by the other Ricks there due to his apparent attachment to his Morty, seeing as they are ultimately replaceable, as well as his previous hostility towards it often gets him in heated discussions and banter with the other Ricks. However, despite his open hostility towards it and still thinking that it's stupid, both he and the council have a minor truce agreement as they're both needed and important to one another, primarily due to U-239's extensive knowledge of replacing himself in various dimensions. In time, he'll gain a bit of a name for himself due to this and other reasons, but for right now he would just be known as 'U-239, AKA That One Rick Who Cares A Lot For His Morty.'
This Rick has an EXTENSIVE knowledge of the federation. Like, insane amount of knowledge about it. Because he's been on the run for so long, avoiding being seized by them, U-239's knowledge of inner and outer workings of the interdimensional, galactic federation is, by far, one of the most extensive a Rick can have. This has proven, in more than one cases, to be extremely useful to the Council of Ricks, and seems to be the reasoning that sold the council on accepting him in the first place. That, and his incredibly skilled ability to blend into other realities.
U-239 INFOU-239 abandoned his own daughter at a young age, but for whatever reason, nobody is entirely sure. Underneath his belt are records of theft, drug abuse, drug dealings, bank heists, murder, and almost anything in the book. Including questionable acts of the sexual kind. He came back for a while to meet with his Morty, but eventually ended up leaving for good. The reasoning behind such is yet to be known to anyone but the council and the galactic federation, but the reasoning behind it was apparently severe enough that he became on high watch from both the council and the federation. It's hinted that he's actually gone to space jail a few times, but has managed to break out, thus increasing his threat to the federation. (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)
So, what REALLY happen to Earth Dimension U-239?U-239 doesn't talk about it. He'll never talk about it, and it's a story stowed away in his head, where it will remain until he either dies or it is forced out of him by outside forces. He'll never talk about it, he'll never even mention it.
U-239's destruction was actually brought on by the Rick of its dimension himself. After fucking up with the federation, Rick #U-239 decided to get daring, messing with the equipment and within sciences that no man rightfully had to mess into. He created a black hole on accident, but it was so destructively built that U-239 would realize, if it was left alone, it would destroy most, if not all, of the dimension.
Upon realization of the terrible mistake he had made, U-239 promptly fled. He knew what such a massively destructive thing would mean: destroyed worlds. Wrecked planets. The universe would eventually collapse on itself. There would be no survivors and something with that much energy would, no doubt, trigger the surrounding stars to implode in on themselves. It would cause a chain reaction, and, knowing something of that force meant impeding doom everywhere else.. He fled to dimension [OMITTED], but he realized right after that he had ended up abandoning his family in favor of his own survival. U-239 panicked, and immediately portaled himself back in.
It was already becoming too late. He didn't have as much time as he wanted, he didn't have any time at all. Because once he stepped back into his dimension's house, the world had already started to implode in on itself, tugged every which way by a black hole that was growing exponentially in such a short amount of time. He had no time to figure out a dimension in which they could all go and survive, and needless to say this didn't do well for U-239 at all. He only tried to save his Morty, but his Morty ended up being crushed by the collapsing house in front of him. His last memory was his home dimension's Beth staring at him in horror as he backed away in flight and panic, begging for help, and that was the last he would ever see of Earth Dimension U-239.
He received phone calls from his remaining family on his inter-dimensional cell, all consisting of messages of their last moments. Mostly screaming, crying, begging him for help, before the messages broke off into oblivion and silence. They have still not been erased off his phone, which lays locked in a safe in the depths of his evil lab.
U-239 was written and labelled off as a completely dead dimension. While this looked like a natural disaster at first glance, the federation knew better, and they immediately began tracking the reasoning behind it, and quickly found out about U-239's interferance. A destruction this big, eventually leading to the downfall of the ENTIRE dimension, pinged both the federation and the council. Both were now looking for him.
This Rick has been on the run ever since then, and could never stay in one dimension for more than a few days in the beginning, until he figured out how to mask his portal jumping from being tracked, and even then, he had to keep switching every few weeks until he could mask himself from everyone completely. He figured out a way to greatly increase the brain waves of a singular Morty and integrated it into a device on his portal gun.
U-239's Rick regrets everything he's done, down to a T, and can still hear his daughter screaming in horror like it happen yesterday. He misses his family, he misses his dimension, and he still has nightmares about his family's demise though he hides them very well. He hates that he has to blend into other realities and would rather just go back to his own, and has reached a point where he is emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausted about the entire thing, leaving him a bit unstable.
U-239 shares very similar aspects to other Ricks, especially in personality, though there are definitely some major and minor differences. His self loathing tends to overcome him a lot more often than not, due to his extensive knowledge of dimensional jumping and blending in, and often has nightmares about it that he covers up. Up until his last jump, to dimension C-192, U-239 has never been one to get attached with any of his family. Every time he felt like he was getting too attached, he almost always fucked something up, usually on accident without even realizing it, and dimension jumped. Likewise, the federation has been on his ass after his stunts in the original U-239, causing them to chase him throughout dimensions. He combats this by constantly switching dimensions every time the federation closes in on him. Dimension hopping is a common thing for him, but it didn't make it any easier for him at all.
U-239 has major depression, more so than usual, but it comes with the territory of being a dimensional hopper. Up until C-192, where he stayed in safety for the longest he'd ever been, U-239 suffered immense loneliness that he covered up by his sociopathic, violent, and schizoid-like tendencies. He refused to let himself get attached to anyone and often acted like he didn't care or was aloof, which lead him to getting into more fights with his Morty and more fights with his 'family' than most Ricks would have otherwise. Because to U-239, people were ultimately replaceable. They would always be replaceable. This is the same for most Ricks, but it's become a life style for him, and he's seen and been through too much stuff that it's left him in a state of almost constant suffering. Was a hard life when you were on the run, replacing your family constantly.
However, when he came across C-192, there he stayed for longer than usual. While the typical stay time for him was a few months, all the way up to a year or more, this dimension he remained in safety for almost twice that. It was then that U-239 began to realize he was getting too attached for his own good, but did not want to face the idea of having to start all over again, not after all that history. He grew extremely paranoid, more so than the average for Ricks, due to his ever growing attachment to the dimension he was in as well as his Morty, which seem to change him drastically. It had become tiring to have to 'start over' almost constantly, and he never seem to realize this until he hit C-192, where he watched the Morty grow over time. From fourteen to seventeen now, a full three years. Longer than he had ever been in any dimension previously. In this dimension, the length spent there has combated a bit of the jaded nature of his from previous dimensions. Though he's still abrasive, rude, and insulting, he's much more likely to drop the guard in the front of the Morty, who he seems very, very attached to. He's immensely protective of C-192's Morty, likely due to his underlying fear of having to ditch, replace, or accidentally kill him.. as he has with others before.
U-239 doesn't at all let on that he isn't even from C-192, not even to the Morty there. At all. He perfectly settles himself within the universe of C-192, going on as he would any other dimension. The council, however, still and will always call him U-239. He lives his life as if he were the Rick in the dimension he took over, however, being an absolute master at being able to blend in or take over the places of these Ricks in their own dimension. The chances of him ever letting anyone in on this are very low, too. He's frightened of rejection, terribly so.
(^ Because of his constant jumping, some stuff that's in history may actually be with different Morties of different dimensions. I haven't decided how to try and combat this, but I like to think that U-239 often 'downloads' the memories of the Mortys he's been with previously, and uploads them into the new one subtly, but I'd have to discuss this with the person who plays C-192's Morty first. Things may be smoothed out or retconned as needed.)
Now, about looks, or differences, he looks but doesn't look the same as any other Rick at the same time. While primarily the same, U-239 shows some subtle differences: his hair's a small bit shorter and is often slicked back when he's in uniform and kept a bit 'neater' than most, giving him a pretty fashionista feeling. Outside of the council, though, you couldn't tell him apart from the others. This hasn't changed much else, though. He's also very tall, standing at a whooping 6'4, towering over the C-192 Morty by nearly a foot. Likewise, his Morty is about three years older, at 17, because of his sticking around for that long.
TLDR differences known so far:
✓ Acts and looks a bit younger; expected to be about 50
✓ Hair is a bit shorter, bald spot is a bit smaller
✓ Tends to slick his hair back when he's in uniform to give him a snazzy, professional look
✓ Has a few scars on his body from being shot at by various people
✓ Was possessed by a fragment of Bill Cipher for a brief time after he followed Ford into C-192
✓ Fixed his world in Rick Potion #9 vs. fleeing
✓ Has never actually met Evil Rick but is well aware of his existence
✓ Is a council Rick, along side his Morty, though they tend to butt heads a lot
✓ Is often treated as the bottom rung of the 'Rick' ladder due to his attachment to C-192's Morty.. who U239 hasn't even had the courtesy of telling the truth to
✓ Morty has stopped him from committing suicide several times -
So, what's he doing now?
If you need anything, I'll be here for a good year and a half or so.
But, for real...Well, really, it's hard to say. He could be doing anything. He could be dimension hopping. He could be drinking. He could be cruising around in his junkard space ship with his terrified grandson, millions of miles away from the Earth, or in hundreds of dimensions away, or even hundreds of planets. He could be anywhere, on any planet, in any dimension, for almost any reason.
Hell, he even could be in YOUR dimension, and you wouldn't even know about it until he breaks into your house, raids your pantry for those bottles of vodka and everclear you try and hide, and hit you with his freeze ray before you even had the time to finish loading tumblr. -
