Family can be awfully complicated.Greyson and his twin brother, Jude, were born into a family that was destined to never work out. The father was a drunk even before Greyson and Jude were born, and the mother was mentally unstable with voices in her head. She took her own life in front of a 9-year-old Greyson in order to escape the inevitable mental institution the government would put her in. Deep inside, she knew Greyson was the only one who would really understand the misery she was in, and therefore made Greyson finish the slide on her throat with a kitchen knife in a handkerchief, and so he did. This caused bad blood between him and his brother, however, and for years Greyson alone was blamed for their mother's death. They both had their own way of handling the situation they were in, and only their father's violence brought them together as one. A few years they stayed with their drunk, violent father, but were then brought in fosther care as 12-year olds, moving from one family to another until they met The Valentines.
The Valentines took them in when they were 13 years old. A lovely, warm, Catholic family. It didn't take long for them to realize Greyson was different. Of course it made sense Greyson wasn't happy - not after the suicide of the mother, followed by 3 years in with an alcoholic father who beat him and his brother every now and then. They found him a psychiatrist whom he spoke to multiple times a week for the first months, until he started to seem happier and it was cut down to once every week, then every second week, and now once every month. What they didn't know was that his happiness was a loud cry for help, a huge sign of his illness getting worse. When he was diagnosed with depression he was handed a prescription of medicine that made his world grey and boring. The voices disappeared and his mood was getting worse. One day he had enough, and tried to take his own life, but was saved as his brother walked in on him. This was once again, one of the moments the brothers' were brought together and felt a the strong unbreakable bond between them. Greyson was devastated by his unsuccessful attempt, but relieved by the love and support he felt from his brother. This was the only love and support that mattered to him. A precious moment lasting only a few weeks, and everything was back to normal. Greyson knew, that deep down Jude and him would be there for each other, but the general everyday life was still unbearable. Therefore Greyson took the situation in his own hands and stopped taking his medicine. The voices stayed in his head and he taught himself to smile even when things were not to smile for. He practiced how to appear happier to people in order to not get caught for not taking his medicine, and it worked. A personality of pureness, joy, happiness, quirky comments, and a sarcastic joking charm, this is how Greyson is formed.
