Backstory
Yoshiko was born in the year 1560 a few months before the Battle of Okehazama. She was born to Imagawa Yoshimoto and an unnamed woman. In June 1560, her father, Imagawa Yoshimoto, with an army of about 25,000 men, set forth on a march to Kyoto. Entering the Oda territories in Owari Province, he first took the border fortresses of Washizu and Marune before setting up camp in a wooded gorge known as Dengaku-hazama.
This was all reported to Oda Nobunaga by his scouts and, in response, Nobunaga then led his own forces into position at a temple called Zenshō-ji, a short distance away, on the other side of the Tōkaidō (road). Imagawa Yoshimoto lost his life in the battle. With their leader dead, and all but two of the senior officers killed, the remaining Imagawa officers joined Oda's army taking Yoshiko with them.
Yoshiko was raised, as a retainer, within the Oda clan, until the death of Oda Nobunaga at Honnō-ji. She fought in a few smaller battles within the Oda. One of her main battles were the Battle of Nagashino when she was 15. Another key battle for her was the Siege of Kôzuki Castle when she was 18 under the command of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
After the death of Nobunaga, she returned home to her people in the Sunpu Province. At this time, she was a stranger to her people. No one knew anything about her since her entire life was lived away from her people. Over time, the people began to understand and trust her as everyone started to get the opportunity to learn more about each other. They were opening up to her rule by her acts of generous kindness. Everything was going well for her and her people until Hideyoshi rose to power.
After the Toyotomi subjugated the area around Yoshiko, she surrendered her territory to the warlord. This happened after her failed attempt to aid the Hojo at Odawara Castle. Imagawa Yoshiko served under Toyotomi Hideyoshi until his death in 1598. Japan was once again thrown in turmoil as two forces rose to power to claim the mantle Toyotomi hideyoshi left behind. Yoshiko did what little she could for her people but it was not enough. She was given a cruel choice to join Ishida Mitsunari's Western Army, where she fought up until the Battle of Sekigahara.
Sekigahara ended in failure for Mitsunari’s forces on October 21st, 1600. Ieyasu took Mitsunari to the capital where he was promptly executed on November 6th in 1600. Tokugawa Ieyasu allowed Yoshiko to retire to a simple life after he united Japan under his rule. Yoshiko took to the life easily enough, with some grumbling, where she lived out her days writing poetry and tending the land.

Backstory
Tokugawa Kimiko is the younger sister to Tokugawa Ieyasu. She was born as Matsudaira Kimiko. The name Tokugawa was granted to her brother by Lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi for his services rendered. Growing up, her brother always kept her safe from harm. He taught her how to defend herself should he not be around to defend her. This caused the young women to develop a strong desire to return the favor. Her appearance closely resembled her brother. From a young age, she took on a role of being her brother’s body double.
Ieyasu was reluctant to allow his sister to act as his body double. However, he knew that as he grew in power and influence it would be necessary. He also knew that it would dangerous for her. Not just because she was a woman. There was always a good chance she could be killed because of him. This gave the warlord some pause since he cared about his sister. However, this did not deter Kimiko from her decision. It only strengthened her resolve to protect her brother like he protected her. She was kept a secret from the world knowing that she would one day need to step into her brother’s role. Very few people knew about her existence. One of the only people who knew the truth about her and her role was Honda Tadakatsu.
As her brother’s body double, she often binds her chest to appear as a male. Kimiko takes great care in making sure that no one discovers her secret. That she is a woman and not her brother. She keeps her hair and clothes as close to her brothers style as she possibly can. The two are close in height so only a small handful of people know the truth about Kimiko or are suspicious of them in general. Kimiko mimics her brother to the best of her ability and does quite well. They two often speak in great length about events that have happened. This is to reduce the risk of Kimiko being exposed to unnecessary danger because of something she didn’t know about.
Kimiko has taken part in many battles over the years. Most of the time, she partakes in the battle in disguise, as a regular soldier. She remains hidden until her brother has need of her. Kimiko will then switch places with her brother to ensure his escape or safety within battle. This is something she does willingly and proudly.
