    ⠀⠀➥Why use a combat system
    CdetbCw.png
Combat is one of the main interactions in feral RP. Between species, combat can be reeeeal complicated and gets ugly fast between players, OOC drama-wise. We built as simple a system as possible to moderate combat.

You don't have to use this combat system if it doesn't work for you and your RP partners, but... if you do run into drama while fighting... This is our form of refereeing. We can only really help if things go wrong as moderators by using this system. We'll just encourage you to use it next time.

Tip: Please talk to a moderator if you need help understanding anything here. We want to make it as easy as possible for you!

    ⠀⠀➥Overview: How does it work4yVuwDU.png

In this system, you can write out pretty much whatever you want to try doing during a fight. All you have to do is roll a dice with your RP partners to determine the outcomes, and then you can write up the flair for it after the dice roll reveals the results.

This system is great because it focuses on utilizing OOC communication and creative writing. You name the attacks in a fight and the dice will roll. Whoever's health bar is still remaining until the end wins the fight.

    ⠀⠀➥Dice Charts

Before you begin the fight, the Dream will ask you to name your results. Here's the default ones:
    1-5: completely misses
    6-10: damages lightly
    11-15: does medium damage
    16-19: does high damage
    20: knocks opponent out

    Example character dice roll names:
    Example 1:

A player is making Henry, a large and extra fluffy wolf. This is what they decide to name their dice roll outcomes:

    1-5: completely misses
    6-10: scratches
    11-15: bites
    16-19: rips and pulls
    20: throat grabs

    Example 2:

Another player makes Carrol, a mutant toad with microhooks. Their attack names:

    1-5: completely misses
    6-10: tongue lashes
    11-15: kicks
    16-19: quill stabs opponent's eye
    20: triple flying leap kicks

    ⠀⠀➥What is battle like?

    Combat order
    • OOCly discuss outcomes for the fight you both are okay with (ie death, escape, etc) Set up attack names you want to use for this battle, if you want.
    • Roll 1d20 to determine the power and accuracy of your move.
    • The Dream will automatically determine player order, which is randomly set each turn.
    • Write up a post according to the outcomes of the dice rolls.
    • Repeat until your in-Dream health is depleted and the battle is over.

    Example combat scene
See how a battle might go turn by turn.

In this scene, the players have both discussed and consented to their character's potential death. Both add in their secret custom attacks to the dice roll settings. Then they start the actual battle!

Henry and Carrol roll to attack...
    1) Henry completely misses! 2) Carrol tongue lashes!

Henry's post: Henry growls and bites at the air powerfully, but completely misses Carrol's shins, barreling past her. Henry collapses onto the ground and struggles to get up.

Carrol's post: Carrol leaps upward, feeling the woosh of air under her as Henry nearly collides with her leg. On her way down she lashes out at his face with her tongue. Carrol gains stupendous speed as she shoots toward his helpless face, her tongue giving him a huge lashing, likely making him bleed.

Henry and Carrol roll to attack...
    1) Carrol kicks! 2) Henry rips and pulls!

Carrol's post: Carrol isn't done with that wolf, oh no. She sees him starting to get up and launches a kick again aimed at his bleeding face. Like lightning, her kicks are extraordinarily fast and she aims a jab in there, right between his three eyes.

Henry's post: Henry groans, feeling the sting of the tongue on his muzzle and blood welling in his eye from earlier. It gives him a surge of energy that helps him find his footing again. But just as he gets up, Carrol is already kicking him on the head! Stunned for a moment, he reaches to snatch her out of the air, ripping and pulling on her leg.

Henry and Carrol roll to attack...
    1) Carrol triple flying leap kicks! 2) Henry scratches!
Henry is knocked out! Carrol wins the fight.

Carrol's post: Carrol's leg locks up with pain as she feels the wolf grab it with sharp teeth. But it's too late for him! Almost as if the pain spurs her on, she rips her leg out of his mouth and lands on the ground, launching 3 kicks in quick succession at his head since that seems to be working.

Henry's post: Henry rears up to defend himself against the amphibian, claws splayed out to scratch her.. but to no avail. He howls in agony, then shudders to the ground as the kicks make everything go dark around him.

Losing a fight in nature could mean death. Depending on players' preferences, there are options to hide, flee, talk it out, etc. Try to decide this before you begin a fight to avoid OOC conflict.

    Pacts:

These cover interspecies conflicts (as the stronger party is expected to give the weaker party a running head start should negotiations for the pact fall through). These are typically negotiated before combat can begin, but there’s no rule that you can’t try to call for one during or after combat, assuming you haven’t tried it already.

The truce system, also called "paw armistices":

    • Raising a paw (or a hoof/wing/tail) is the symbol to start, and negotiations begin once the others raise theirs.
    • A paw armistice lasts for less than day (usually next sunset or sunrise), or as negotiated.
    • Those that attack during an active paw armistice, or when initiating one, face repercussions if caught.

    Regeneration via sludge

For those willing to entertain a "kind" of character death in a fight they lost, their body could be dumped into the mutagenic sludge. It's far from perfect however - the character emerges from the sludge different (in body, mind, or both).

    True death

If you do consent to character death but you don't want to come back, you can choose to stay dead even if your character's body gets dumped in the sludge. Not everything the sludge makes from the material it finds is going to be viable, after all. The sludge will keep trying until it makes something that is viable, but by then you could easily say that it isn't your character anymore. Too much has changed.

NOTE: We require anyone who doesn't consent to character death to prominently display it in a description/website and remind all parties in a fight before it begins.
