  • Cptn Kate Ehman

  • Information

    Bio
Ehman is from a subcategory of humans. A new type of human was invented for the purpose of warfare in the UGC civil war. This population was discriminated against when introduced to civilian populations. People didn't want these 'abominations' around. They can think faster, see clearer for longer distances, discriminate certain noises out of an atmosphere, and most importantly, they are spliced with genes from specific animals. They're modified with certain behavioural traits such as loyalty and coordination from wolves, and reflexes from felines. They had tried to wipe empathy from these humans as well, but it's evolved back into them as the gene faded through later generations.

Ehman was originally discriminated against in the academy for this reason. She had been labelled psychotic, and classmates had sometimes cornered her to put a collar on her, in reference to her modified loyalties. Coming out of the academy, she had known suffering. Claims of psychotic tendencies were all false- Ehman in fact had strong empathy for others around her. She loved having people around. They simply also didn't want her around.

Admiral Stassen recognized her potential from the academy, and at the time as a guest mentor at the academy, recommended her for the Naval Strategy and Orbital Warfare courses. After graduation, he personally requested her to take command of the new MDNV-13-98-XP HES Estella. She has her hands often in the crew's lives and personally interacts in their social environments. Ehman is a powerful figure on the bridge, and most are cautious of her stern tone. But off the bridge, she's often open to being friends with those who spend time with her. The senior officers on the HES Estella have come to refer to her as "The Ship Mom" due to the way she takes stern tones to protect her crew, and uphold her authority, while also offering emotional support and personal bonding.

Her methods are very unorthodox, but she's taken very little casualties in her career. The naval board has often scrutinized her position and her tactics, but Stassen has stood beside her and defended his decision. Ehman has been so forward as to call out her superiors directly on their discriminating her for her genetics.

    Trivia
    • Captain Ehman originally requested Vasilyev for mentors' comments on Vasilyev's relationship with Lt. Ceour.
    • Originally, Ehman had enrolled in the military academy to become a VAS analyst. She had first declined Stassen's help, until she met him personally, and came to respect him as a friend.
    • Ehman has personally told Commander Vasilyev that her orders are only advisory. Disobeying and acting on her own would not be disciplined.
    • The Captain was actually adopted. She never knew her parents, but she was told they gave her up to give her a better life. She didn't know she was genetically different until she was fifteen. At which point, she was permanently marked.
    • Lieutenant Niiya Komaeda was actually brought on board due to her insubordinate tendencies. Ehman wanted the VAS team to be independent and confident. She saw Komaeda as a cheerleader and someone who could inspire the troops, despite her rebellious tendencies.
  • Cdr. Stasya 'Crier' Vasilyev

  • Information

    Bio
Commander Vasilyev as a student had kept her head toward studies and keeping up in physical performance. She lacked a social life, but one student did catch her open side. Lieutenant Claudie 'Mousey' Ceour came under her command through their friendship from the academy. Having been roughed up by other students for her small frame and incredibly clumsy tendencies, Vasilyev often stepped up for her. Ceour's only chance in the academy had been that Vasilyev allowed her the chance to prove herself in 0G EVA training, in which she excelled.

Having graduated the military academy, she had been moved directly into service on the HES Centurion, a frigate carrying ground units for planetary holding and invasions. Her first month on tour on Gliese 667, a Vek sabotage attack had left seven dead and eleven injured, trapped in a canyon 20km from camp. Her commander died in the surprise attack, and Vasilyev was put in command. She took charge and kept the rest of her patrol alive for the fifteen minutes it took for extraction to secure the area and evacuate the unit. Losing two men under her command, against an oppfor with overwhelming advantages, Vasilyev was put on recommendation for the Strategic Analysis and Advisory Division. She stayed in the program for two years, before transferring to the SuVV program under recommendation.

A year into the SuVV program, Vasilyev adopted into the strategic warfare division for SuVV independent unit. It was at this point that Admiral Stassen requested her advisory in his fleet, and she was transferred as an officer aboard the HES Estella. Captain Ehman took her aside personally to test her field skills. Vasilyev then requested field role. She missed the adrenaline of combat. She also requested a transfer of her friend Ceour to her command on the Estella. Ehman has followed Stessan's example with leading on the frontlines, and allowed Vasilyev to be in the frontlines of herself where she can properly command her people and adapt to situations.

    Trivia
    • The callsign 'Crier' came from her tour on Giese 667c where she had gotten a piece of shrapnel lodged into her right eye. The eye was fully preserved through advancements in medical technology, but a scar had been left, along with a faded view of the implant she'd had placed to improve eyesight, while she had the area cut open already. To hide the implant, she had a tattoo done. Lieutenant Ceour had recommend that she put a tattoo of a tear, because she had never seen her cry before. This turned into a joke with her squad that she was a cry baby, sarcastically referring to her level head. Her callsign before this was Traverser 3-3.
  • Kara Saarinen

  • Information

    Bio
Captain of the Kir-Ra'Shi, Saarinen has earned her place and her reputation through various war crimes and general cruelties. Having grown up on a mining colony, Saarinen knew little charity. Most mining colonies were owned corporately and forgotten. Regulations were out of date well before she was even born. She and her twin brother had often taken serious injury, and patched up only to be thrown back into work. Saarinen refused to accept this life and stowed away on the next cargo frigate to the outer colonies. It had been a lot of hopping around between stations, but finally, she brought her brother to someone offering safe passage to the Vek outpost.

    Trivia
    • Saarinen bit a crew member's wrist so hard, that he had to be sent to the infirmary to save it. The reason for the assault was that he stole her pudding cup.
    • Saarinen ended up engaged in combat with Commander Vasilyev, and survived. The two managed to exchange deep wounds, but both went back to their mother vessels and fully recovered.
    • An injury from when Saarinen was a child has left permanent damage in her left upper arm. While it rarely ever shows to affect her physical abilities, her armour had to be fitted to compress the area.
    • The captain often sleeps around with her crew. Specifically, Saarinen considers her head engineer, Auren Piasecka, to be her personal toy. She experiences the captain's blatant favouritism both personally in their sexual relationship, and professionally over the other senior staff.
