The Omphalos's Med Bay is closer to a small hospital than a traditional medical bay. It serves all of the agents on the Omphalos, and acts as spillover for serious injuries and illnesses for Sanctuary's citizens as well. The bay takes up the majority of the subfloor it shares with the Omphalos's science and tech labs, and containment facilities. It's equipped with four exam rooms, three operating theaters, a room for specialized tech like MRIs, a dental suite, and an optometrist's. It also has limited life support stasis pods for extreme emergencies. It has 50 beds available in 25 Recovery Suites, so two per room, a third of which are specially equipped for large or quadrupedal patients. The Med Bay deals with ailments both magical and mundane, and any of the operating rooms or exam rooms can be converted to deal with issues that tech or ritual might fix. Appointments and assessments for mental health treatments are also made here, though the bulk of therapy tends to be held in the offices down near the Omphalos's main garden instead. The entire med bay is capable of going into quarantine lockdown in an emergency, and possesses extra energy shielding capabilities when needed. NOTABLE FEATURES ![]() The med bay's various biobeds are designed for multiple species configuration and sizes, and are kept comfortable and sanitized. They are designed to monitor a patient's vitals, brainwave activity, and, thanks to the creative collaboration between the Omphalos's magic and science teams, an individual's aura field as well. Each bed is equipped with flexible restraints in case of emergencies. ![]() There are three ways to get to the sublevel that the med bay is located on. The two typical ways are the stairs and the public facing elevator. The third is a secondary elevator that is taken directly from the Temporal Hub to the med bay's Quarantine area. The hallway itself is specially sealed when in use and leads straight to the decontamination chambers. Both the hallway and the elevator are capable of high temperature decontamination as well once there are no longer any beings occupying them, and are triple reinforced. The two smaller decontamination chambers lead to the four quarantine rooms the bay has available, where those who were not able to receive the multiversal vaccine must wait out their three days before returning to the general populace after a mission. The rooms themselves are fairly simple, so as to be easily cleaned after they're done being used, with a biobed, a desk, a bench, and a bathroom behind a set of curtains (which are also designed to be easily cleaned, or if need be, disposed of entirely.) Food, water, and entertainment materials are passed through the decontamination chamber. The remaining decontamination chamber is for general use after particularly dicey missions. The multiversal vaccine protects from most things internally, but that doesn't prevent them from clinging to skin and clothing sometimes and getting unprotected people sick. If anything gets pinged on the scanners coming back, the agent gets sent down for a strip and wash before they can enter into the rest of the building. ![]() The staff offices just off the administrative area are technically owned by the med bay's head doctors, but are often used freely between staff on an 'as needed' basis. The wide hallway outside of the offices also has a small break room, and at the end, an indoor zen garden to relax in when things inevitably get stressful. ![]() The grim reality is that people die, even in peaceful times, of which these are not. The Omphalos's medical bay is equipped with a small morgue, more meant for temporary holding and examination rather than long term storage. After autopsy, corpses are usually transferred to a larger facility to await proper burial, one of which is in Sanctuary, and the other which is a little ways past the Omphalos's stables. |

▴ Violent characters may be restrained and sedated by medbay staff (NPC or otherwise), particularly if they are considered a danger to themselves or others. Depending on their reasons for acting so, they may wake up in quarantine in a biobed, or a holding cell for assault. We understand that fights and medical drama can be fun, but be prepared for consequences to aggressive character actions, especially in the medbay. ▴If your character doesn't report for an agent's mandatory checkups, particularly after dangerous missions, don't be surprised if a medic comes looking for them. ▴The multiversal vaccine can't be applied to all characters for various reasons, though it can be adapted to many kinds of physiologies. Those unable to receive the vaccine must spend 72 hours in quarantine upon noticing any symptoms of illness or after returning from away missions. If a character begins to show symptoms of an unknown illness while on mission, they may be asked to quarantine on that world until a medical team can reach and clear them. ▴The Omphalos always needs more player character healers and medics! That's what they're there for! Quarantine Escape One of the agents who couldn't receive the multiversal vaccine has come back from a mission sick and delirious. Unfortunately, they're still clever enough to take advantage of a less than studious medical trainee and have now escaped into the Omphalos. Contain them before they can reach the Gate to Sanctuary or worse, then deal with the potential fallout of having a potentially contagious patient run wild through HQ. Multidimensional Space Herpes Whoops! Your character got a little too amorous while off world and now they need to have an awkward talk with one of the doctors. The multi-vax was meant to protect from these things, wasn't it? There's probably a cure, right??? Maybe your character was just allergic to their partner. Maybe something stranger is going on.
