Nobody expects you to make AotM a lifelong commitment. Life happens, interests drift, muse runs out. That's not only the nature of roleplay, but creativity in general. We all need breaks sometimes.

But this is still a collaborative hobby, and the way you exit a space impacts the people you share it with. So for whatever reason you're leaving, make sure you're being kind and polite on your way out. This ensures that your partners aren't left spinning their tires, and that staff welcomes you back should you ever decide to return.

Not gunna meet that activity check? If you've got the extra points, snag the 'Pause Button' in the Supply Store. This allows you to skip an activity check for a single character.

Or use 'NPC Character' to bypass activity checks for that character in general. You'll only be able to play them in the same roleplay as your non-NPC characters until you bring them back into full play, but it gives 'back burner' characters a little breathing room.

Or just talk to staff. As long as it's not your Grandma Dying of Crocodiles for the 100th time, and you're not making activity skipping a habit, we can certainly figure things out together.

Would we rather you go through the set up fail safes? Yes. But we'd also rather you'd stick around over leaving if you're just struggling with an aspect of the game or community or even just personal life that maybe we can help with. But closed mouths don't get fed. Speak up!

Even if you don't plan on sticking around, if someone is making you feel uncomfortable or engaging in dangerous or predatory behavior, or otherwise breaking our community rules, please utilize the #problem-report forms in our Discord.

It's very important to us that everyone here feels safe in this community, and we take dangerous behavior very seriously.

If the reason you're leaving is not serious, but still because of an aspect of the community that doesn't gel with you, you are still welcome to let us know before you go via private messages or the staff question area of the Discord. As long as you are kind and polite, you will always be welcomed back. We're not allergic to constructive feedback, but we don't endorse temper tantrums.

Please avoid dropping your feedback in the main chat. It's disruptive to the atmosphere and awkward for everyone, and because of how fast the main chat sometimes moves, it winds up being easily lost and not very helpful. If your feedback involves another player directly, please message staff directly instead of name dropping them in a public place.

With all that out of the way, if you're still on your way out, please try to do the following before you leave:

▴ Contact Jabber via DMs on Discord or RPR! You don't have to let staff know why you're leaving if you'd rather not. No one's going to chase you or bite your head off.

But a list of your characters and how you'd like them handled would be really helpful, particularly if they were heavily involved with any IC communities or with other characters that are sticking around.

When you're gone we'll need to remove their info from any active lists, and potentially figure out things like who steps up to take their place if they're something like the leader of an organization or the owner of a business.

If you're planning on coming back at some point, we can give them a prolonged vacation, or even NPC status if you're comfortable with that.

Save your information and any other stuff you might want! Big stuff like roleplay threads and businesses generally go to the archives rather than get deleted, but little stuff may be cleared, and accidents happen! It's a good habit to get into anyway!
Reach out to any partners who you have active roleplay threads or storylines with. Give them a hand on wrapping things up where your character is concerned so they don't have to figure out how to plug any story holes alone in your absence.

Or if things are already mostly tied off, just let them know you're going so they're not waiting around for a reply from you.

▴ You're welcome to say goodbye to everyone in the main chat if you'd like, or if that's uncomfortable for you, don't feel like you have to. If you decide to post a goodbye, please be kind and courteous, however. Being disruptive or rude is a good way to ensure that you won't be welcomed back if you change your mind.

With everything all wrapped up, we thank you for your time and wish you a fulfilling creative journey wherever you end up next! Don't forget, you're always welcome to come back if you'd like, if your interest picks up again or life calms down. Good luck!
