Kind, compassionate, adaptable, playful, open minded, good under pressure, loyal, brave, level headed, slow to anger, emotionally intelligent, charismatic

A deep love of whimsy, impulsive, persistent, sensitive, determined, idealistic, self-sacrificing, stubbornly optimistic

Self depreciating, overly accommodating, self-minimizing, stubborn, overbearing, presumptuous, repressive around anger and grief

About
Steven is half human, half alien, with a long and complicated legacy behind him. Between trying to live up to, and then against, his mother's considerable legacy, and the weight of his own empathic powers, his emotional landscape got very complex, very quickly at a young age.

He is extremely compassionate and kind, but being saddled with a quasi 'chosen one' status also left him with blind spots. This shows up most in his own needs, but also in well-intentioned moments of 'knowing best' and failing to allow people their own autonomy.

It's something he's still working on, and something that came to a head in his teenage years, where an entire childhood's worth of repressed grief and anger finally erupted. He's doing better these days, after some serious therapy and time to get to know himself. He lets himself get angry these days, or cry, or reminds himself to step away and let people figure things out for themselves.

But the Corruption of his world has definitely opened some old wounds, and bad habits tend to sneak back when you're not paying attention.

Steven focuses on what he's good at in the AotM. He's already had experience with corralling dangerous artifacts and monsters, and his natural healing abilities means his status as a junior medic is inherently helpful.

As for the rest? Well, time will tell.

Typical Appearance
6'11" - Around 300lbs - Dark Brown Eyes - Dark Brown Hair

Steven is a big guy. In his later years, he definitely grew into his mother's height, and he dwarfs most average humans. He has warm, dark brown eyes, peachy skin, and a curly mass of dark brown hair that hovers around his head and shoulders like a friendly storm cloud.

He's got a round, friendly face, bushy eyebrows, and just a bit of stubble on his chin that he's grown fond of over time. He's got something of a dad bod, but make no mistake-- there's steel under all that softness.

Steven never quite grew out of his sense of style, and still prefers the feeling of band t-shirts, jeans or shorts, and open toed shoes. It's a comfort thing. He's definitely not opposed to dressing up for special occasions though, or just for fun, and there's very little he won't try on at least once.

He's still very fond of things that sparkle.

And speaking of sparkle-- the elephant, or rather, alien in the room.

Steven's heritage most notably shows up in the vibrant pink gemstone embedded in him where his belly button should be. But it occasionally crops up in other physical ways too-- namely when emotions get really high, you'll notice a bit of radioactive pink start to creep into the brown of his eyes.

He's got it under control though. Mostly.

Gear & Extras
Lion, Stevens creatively named giant pink feline companion, goes wherever he goes. And wherever Lion wants to go as well. Really, Steven is just lucky Lion lets him hang around with him.

Lion is a lot bigger than your average lion, with flamingo pink fur and a pastel colored mane. He looks a little small compared to Steven these days, who doesn't often ride him as much as he did when he was a child.

Lion is immensely strong, however, and once carried nearly the entire team on his back. If he needed to ride him, Steven absolutely could. But Steven worries, and Lion really prefers to carry Connie anyway.

Lion was once a regular, mortal lion. As some point, Steven's mother, Rose, resurrected him with her tears after his death. This granted Lion his unique coloring, strength, and immortality, but also several more unique abilities too.

Lion's mane acts as a portal that only Steven has access to. Inside is an airless space full of waving pink grasses beneath an alien sky. There are two islands with a single tree on each, one representing Lars, and the other Lion himself. Steven mostly uses it for storage, as neither Lars nor Lion appreciate 6 foot something of Steven coming and going from their respective hair doos.

Lion can also open short range worm holes with a concussive roar. These worm holes can be compounded to travel further with successive roars, but jumping too many times exhausts Lion, often for hours.

Gem Hybrid Physiology
Gems do not have true physical forms. As energy based lifeforms, they project hard light holograms from their gemstones where their minds or souls, depending on how you'd like to look at it, are located. These forms are very convincing, and in fact often mimic many biological traits-- but they can be ultimately destroyed and recreated by the Gem with no lasting harm to themselves.

Being half Gem, Steven's relationship with his own biology is... complicated, and something he's often still figuring out. He does need to eat, sleep, hydrate, breathe, and relieve himself-- as far as he knows. But he's also never tried to, well, stop.

He has a unique healing factor. Most injuries that go unnoticed heal up almost instantly, including fractures and other damage that would have killed anyone else. But his physical form also often reflects his mental state. If Steven believes on some level that something should have injured him, then the injury will linger.

He can, like full Gems, alter his form somewhat, but he does not, nearly ever, due to several particularly traumatizing incidents in his childhood.

Steven is also considerably stronger than a human being, often lifting many times his own weight. The cap on his strength is hard to gauge, however, as it depends entirely on Steven's emotional state. He is often stronger in moments of desperation. During the average day, however, he could probably push a van around without too much effort, but begins to sweat a bit past that.

Shield Summoning
Like most of the Crystal Gems, Steven has a weapon he can summon from his gemstone. In his case, it's a shield, or sometimes multiple shields, formed of hard light. The shield is a rosy pink with a silver rim, and is slightly translucent. There is a spiraling, thorned vine pattern that winds around to the center of the shield, where there is an echo of his own gem.

Steven can increase or decrease the size of the shield at will, though bigger sizes or more shields take more effort and concentration on his part.

Though this is the most iconic aspect of this ability, Steven is also able to summon different types of shields too, though most are simplified compared to his weapon. A full body bubble is a good example, as are the hexagonal barriers he sometimes throws up, which can be smooth or include a spiked texture to them.

His shields can be destroyed with enough damage, forcing him to re-summon them. Doing so too many times in a row can quickly exhaust Steven.

Empathic Telepathy
Steven has a unique brand of telepathy that's tangled up in his and others emotions. He's generally got an empathic finger on the pulse of the people around him unconsciously in general, but its when he focuses this ability that things start to get weird.

Dreamwalking is the tip of the iceberg (and Steven still occasionally does it accidentally). He can enter into others dreams, and even influence them to some degree, though it takes some serious effort to do so, and usually must be done the old fashioned way rather than willing it. Steven must also be asleep in order to do this, and gets no restful sleep himself while he does.

Steven can also-- and he's reluctant to do this these days-- possess the bodies of others. If they are asleep while he sleeps, he can slip into their bodies and take over for a time. The host mind stays dormant while he does this.

He can also unconsciously influence some electronics during moments of high emotion. TVs and radios go to static or play subconscious images, for example.

Biological Connections
Steven's biological materials are extremely magically potent. His tears can resurrect the recently dead, and his saliva can heal many serious injuries, both in Gems and in biological lifeforms.

His saliva can also produce sapient plant life in some circumstances, and he must be careful where he spits his watermelon seeds. These plants are not always under his control, and may even turn on him or others in some extreme cases.

His healing powers work on most lifeforms, but there are some unique exceptions. If the being in question on some deep level, very strongly does not want to be healed, his powers are useless. Magic based injuries also seem to be varying levels of resistant, as well as injuries caused by energies in opposition to his-- a blast from a Red Lantern Ring, for example.

Float
Steven more floats than flies, but the effects can seem the same. He can jump extremely high, and then, as long as he keeps his thoughts light, descend again at an extremely slow rate. Heavy thoughts weigh him down.

This also extends to any object or person he touches too, though the range of the effects are limited.

Fuse
Being a half-Gem, Steven is capable of 'fusion' with both Gems and organic lifeforms. This means that his body and consciousness blends with that of another to create an entirely new being and body, one that is often a physical representation of their relationship with its own unique abilities and personality. This fusion can continue until one or both parties wishes to unfuse, or either party loses the harmony that allowed them to fuse in the first place.

Diamond State
Steven likely has many other abilities he could unlock, but doing so requires he enter a mental state that is neither good for himself or those around him. In times of great duress and pressure, however, this may happen whether he wants it to or not. Though temporarily more powerful, entering this state means that destabilization may loom.

Gemstone
While Steven's body can take a beating, his gemstone is a weak spot. Hitting it directly causes him immense pain, and may even knock him unconscious if done hard enough.

Cracking or damaging Steven's gemstone can destabilize his powers and make him very sick. If removed, he will grow very weak, and will eventually die without it.

Mental State
Steven's abilities and access to said abilities often fluctuate heavily with his mood and mental state. Sometimes his powers just... do what they want. He has more control when he's happy and confident, and has less control when he's angry or sad. Depression and a lack of confidence can even cut him off from his powers entirely.

Too much pressure and he may even mutate into a huge, raging monster. It hasn't happened since he was a kid, but the fear of it still lingers.

Half Human
Steven still has human needs he has to tend to. His body may be more durable than most, but he still needs the same amount of sleep, food, and hydration as anyone else. Pushing himself too hard means that he needs to crash for a few days before he can get back in the fight again.

The Price of Resurrection
Steven can bring back the recently dead if he cries true tears of grief over them. And while there are some serious upsides that come with this resurrection, there are some downsides too. Those affected become effectively immortal and will stop aging. They will also be intimately tied to Steven from there on out. This is not a choice to make lightly.

History
Steven had a crazy childhood to say the least. He grew up in a non-traditional household (before even the whole alien moms thing), never went to school, and spent most of his younger years battling mutated monsters and intergalactic overlords who also turned out to be his kind of sort of his aunts (Gems are complicated). He didn't have his first doctor's appointment until his teenage years.

Which was not to say that his parental figures were negligent. When you have potentially dangerous superpowers; an interstellar war hanging over your head; and a dead, alien-warrior-queen mother with more hidden skeletons than a graveyard, the best any caretaker can do is... well... their best. Steven was well loved by the three Gems that raised him and his human father, but chosen one status is a lot to put on a kid, and it's no surprise that Steven wound up with some wicked PTSD afterwards.

Sometime in his teenage years, that all came to a head in an explosive ballooning of his powers where he lost control and turned into a literal giant monster for a while. A more serious tragedy was averted thanks to the loving community that surrounded Steven, but it became quickly clear that that wasn't enough anymore. But between intensive therapy and a cross country sabbatical where he actually got to just... be himself for a while, Steven's was doing better.

Everyone has bad days, of course, but for the most part, Steven had a pretty healthy outlook on life. He practiced good boundaries and structured self care, and wherever he slipped up, his loved ones were always there to remind him (sometimes loudly). He never moved back into the beach house at the Crystal Gem's temple-- too many memories. But Steven settled a few miles away in a comfortable cabin up in the woods. Close enough to visit, but not close enough for ghosts.

He had been spending most of his time working in his shop or tutoring Gems at Little Homeworld when the Corruption happened. By the time the Diamonds got to Beach City to warn everyone, it was too late to do anything about it but protect what was left.

Steven took it all very hard. He's still a happy, bubbly guy most days, and is still actively working with a therapist, but there's a grim set to him that wasn't there before, and he has a habit of pushing himself beyond his limits if he doesn't catch himself or allow someone else to stop him. There's a sense that on some level, he blames himself for what happened, for not being able to stop it in time.
