AotM's Mentorship program is an in character program that pairs your new agent character with an agent that is more experienced for their first week in on the job. That character's task is to show yours the ropes, answer any questions, and generally show them around.

This option exists so that new players and new characters both have a potential new connection to interact with right off the bat! Getting your foot in the door with a new group can be intimidating, and it's nice to have someone who's already been around a bit to help with that.

The mentorship program is entirely optional! If you'd rather opt out and let your agent hit the ground running, or play as an agent that's already been around a while, you're welcome to do that too. Just opt out when you're sent your welcome message for your new character.

If you do sign up for a mentor, you're also allowed to 'hand wave' interactions if that's what you both mutually agree on. This enables your character to have that connection for later play without having to write it all out. It's all up to you!

If you're looking to have someone mentor your new agent, then just opt in when you get their welcome message! If there are mentors available, staff will pair you up. If there are no mentors available, you're also welcome to keep your character as doing orientation for a little bit until one frees up. We'll ensure you're first on the wait list.

If you're looking to sign your character up to become a mentor, excellent! There are a couple of things we'd like to address before that process, though.

Mentor Requirements
▴ Only players who have the time and energy to take on this role should apply for it.

▴ Other players may be more comfortable with real-times or slow posters. If you're signing up for the mentor role, you should ideally be comfortable at least experimenting with both.

▴ Your character must be above Clearance Level One and have been in play for at least two weeks with at least two roleplays under their belt.

▴ Your character doesn't have any active IC Reprimands on their record, and they don't have a history that would make them a bad fit as a mentor (an ex-supervillain would be a hard sell, for example, unless they've seriously proved themselves.)

If that all sounds reasonable, then go ahead and sign your character up! You can do so by requesting the role for that specific character in our #requests-and-reviews channel. Please make sure to include a link to your character's character sheet when you do, and the amount of characters you're willing to mentor at any given time.

Any time you'd like a break or would like to retract your character's mentor status, let us know! In the meanwhile, you can collect some bonus activity points for being a mentor. 100 points for every new roleplay you do with the agents under your character's wings.
