Legendary creatures in Olmeid
Mo’o
These lava dragons have evolved over time to be much smaller than usual dragons and have more serpentine bodies. They have lost their limbs and have very small wings that do not help much with flight. Outsiders refer to them as Legless dragons or False Wyrms. Living in active lava tunnels, these molten creatures appear to be made of lava and are known as protectors of the volcanic regions. Some people make offerings to them, and it is considered unlucky to destroy or hunt one even if they are known to eat sentient beings. The Llamedelos family is rumored to have brought down the wrath of Voculele by recruiting a hunting party to destroy one claiming a cult was worshiping a Mo’O.
Tipua
These spirits inhabit stone and wood and have the ability to shift stone and trees into forms that they can travel in. There is always something uncanny about them. Stone Tipua can be quite large… Tipua are known to guard sacred forests and sacred spaces. It is possible to reason with these spirits who have very little vulnerabilities but it is much harder should one become corrupted or sickly.
Pueo’al
These spirits take the form of giant owls and it is unclear if they work for the Deity of the night of the goddess of the earth who takes the form of an owl. They tend to be guardians of magical ley lines and secrets, but are also harbingers of change and death. They are described as having a shriek that can damage the mind or soul, and have the ability to create illusions to disorient or hide themselves.
Nightmarchers
The spirits of the dead of ancient battles and warriors. They march towards battles that they reenact and often forcibly recruits hapless mortals who stumble upon them into their ranks. It is said that their very touch or presence can drain the life of someone and that the only way they can be appeased is with prayers and hoping an ancestor could intercede on your behalf.
Puheko Taniwha
These spirits are similar to the Tipua in that they are shape shifting spirits possessing stones. They resemble the Mo’o but are carved stones made from temple statues. Said to lay dormant in the ground or half buried by temple sites until disturbed.
Kumioniho
There are rumors that the restless spirits of the Oni that came to invade the island long ago still patrol the lands of Milu and surrounding beaches. The remaining Oni that have assimilated in Olmeid claim to have seen a few near the sea and that they have the ability to make war calls to control their kin. Some are described as having horrific sea like mutations as if they were dragged to sea.
Teina Sa
Spirits of women and woman kind that devoted themselves to the spirit realm and duties of caring for and protecting women and children through healing and guidance. When the elves came over, their mining of majhilichite corrupted some of these spirits, reversing them into beings that can cause sickness or misfortune out of jealousy. They can take the form of plants, water, mist or fire. They remain in the spirit realm but can influence the real world through influencing nature.
Moana Mo’o
This giant serpent is said to be the child of the underworld god who was later tamed by the sea god Aguasi. For now it only exists as a legend said to devour the ships of those that stray too far from the islands, keeping the islanders locked at home.
Laulaau Tama
