The Goddess Majhilai is revered as the goddess of magic, time, and wisdom. According to myth, she was born from the blood of Hina Aerys Fortuni mingling with the fires of Voculele, and she is intrinsically connected to the ore Majhilichite, which is named in her honor. Legends often mention her having many mortal lovers, some of whom met tragic ends. Due to her deep involvement with mortals and her compassion towards them, she has shared knowledge in areas such as farming, astronomy, herbalism, writing, history, and most importantly, the practice of magic.

Through the use of magic, mortals have learned to exert control over their destinies away from divine influence and have passed this knowledge through the Kahuna caste. It is believed that, with training and experience, individuals can gather enough Manna (considered the sacred energy or magic that permeates all things, including nature, living and dead beings, and man-made objects ) to become potentially dangerous to others.

It is commonly held that higher castes possess greater amounts of Manna, making them more powerful and, in some beliefs, more of a threat to lower castes, which is why intermarriage across castes is generally discouraged. Over time, these views have been challenged; although members of higher castes may intermarry with lower castes, producing offspring outside one's caste is often considered inappropriate.

Some individuals are believed to be born with naturally higher levels of Manna, regardless of caste, making them better suited for roles such as Kahunas or skilled magic practitioners. Usually, the Kahuna caste identifies and trains these individuals; However, hedgemages and others may pass their magical knowledge informally, without formal training.

To practice magic, most individuals learn to see, feel, and manipulate the threads of fabric and fate; akin to the domain of the god of fate, Fatyr. Practitioners often use their hands to weave or pull these threads, similar to spinners or even the sacred art of Hula, to cast spells.

Certain magical practices are considered taboo or off-limits. Most notably, manipulating, animating, or controlling spirits is regarded as profane. Spirits are sacred entities, and disturbing or harming them can lead to corruption or possession. Many practitioners avoid this form of magic out of reverence and fear. Nevertheless, some devotees of the god Helwyno’e are known to practice spirit magic intentionally, sometimes sending spirits to harass their enemies.
