  • Personality

    Quiet, reserved, even a little shy. Gained more self-confidence after her sentience was validated, and especially after confronting Prometheus. Devoted to Leonard, wanting only to help him fulfill his dreams, goals, and aspirations. She adores her partner and creator, but won't hesitate to call him out when she thinks he's wrong. Very motherly, wise and patient with Newton. If the right buttons are pushed she can be very defensive, bold and unafraid (after all, she's unbreakable), with a sense of self-sacrifice that's nothing short of heroic. Prometheus found out the harsh way.

  • Appearance

    Alysanne looks like all other test-bots of her unit line, each differing only in their respective color scheme. Her head is a somewhat elongated oval, resembling a motorcycle helmet, with the frontal part more deep-set than the rest. She has black eyescreen with green LED eyes and her speech synthesizer is concealed by an horizontal grid where a human mouth would be located.

    Intricate wiring and cables connect the head, and arms, to her torso. Her body consists of two spherical chunks (torso and bottom) jointed by an oval, rotable mid-section. Her legs and arms both split at the joint and are human-like in design. She has five fingers with opposable thumbs on each hand, while her feet are single chunks of metal with vaguely shoe-like shape, Standing at a little over 5'8'', she has a vaguely humanoid appearance, but much more thin and frail - a human with the same body would probably break over at the waist.

    She's colored a bright, polished alluminium-silver. Her voice is unmistakeably artificial and robotic, but with a soft feminine flare.

  • Specifics

    Because their purpose is to serve as living crash-test dummies involved in any potentially dangerous context (from the implementation of new vehicles to safety on workplace, to chemical hazards), test-bots are equipped with state-of-the-arts nanotechnology that allows them to self-repair instantly from any kind of damage. This way they can be always 100% operative and fully functional right after each testing session.

    When they are subjected to damage of any kind, a green self-diagnostic hologram covers the affected area, reporting a detailed indication of the hardware and software components involved, the level of harm sustained, the suggested repair procedure, as well as an estimate of the possible short and long-term consequences.

    Although these specifics make test-bots in fact indestructible, in order for the diagnostic system to work, their sensors must perceive the damage inflicted upon them. The experience is perceived as intensely stressful, similar to what humans would consider pain. Essentially, it's like being beaten the crap out of only to self-regenerate immediately and without damage, but feeling the pain of every blow you receive. And while the majority of test-bots are non-sentient, and just register any stressant spike-up in their event log egistry, some others eventually developed self-consciousness which made their life's purposes - and their very existence - increasingly torturous.

  • Biography

    Created by Ghertivel, she was just one of many test-bots developed by the reclusive scientists. Alysanne, however, stood out among other units of her kind for her heightened performances; although she was hardly the prototype of her line and didn't particularly stand out from the rest in terms of specifics, she just seemed a little better and a little more efficient than the rest of them. As such, Leonard began to value her considerably above the other units.

    As test-bots, Alysanne and other units of her type were meant to serve as crash-test dummies in a variety of experiments, simulating the different hazard levels both in terms of infrastructures and human resources. This entailed test-bots being subjected to varying degree of damage, including explosions, corrosive chemicals, crushing hazard and induced short-circuit. While their self-repair utility and diagnostic holograms made the actual level of sustained damage a moot point, that the experimentations could be stressful or cruel toward the robots never seemed to bother Ghertivel any. However, upon realizing that Alysanne's efficiency stemmed not from some superiority of her software or hardware, but because her AI was apparently developing self-consciousness and a genuine loyalty to him, mixed with the wish to be helpful to his work, eventually caused him to become... somewhat more considerate in her regards. He would not employ her in as daunting experiments as the rest of her line, instead involving her in more ordinary and mundane tasks that didn't carry as high a risk of intensive damage.

    Alysanne's software elaborated that Ghertivel was showing some amount of regard, even consideration for her - and not simply her functionality, since test-bots were not really affected by the damage they sustained, but her feelings and comfort. That not only strengthened her wish to be helpful to her creator, but grew into something even deeper, a sense of gratitude. He had the choice to treat her as just another appliance - like every other scientist did - but he chose to act differently. Alysanne discovered that she actually appreciated that.

    When Ghertivel decided to retire in suspended animation, he shut down all his robots. Before being deactivated, Alysanne asked whether she'd see him again, and a brief moment passed between them before he assured she'd be the first of his units he would reactivate - quickly adding, so she could help him oversee to the restoration of the lab's functionality. It's unknown whether robots experience anything even remotely similar to our "dreams" when they are off-line - but, if so, Alysanne probably held to that promise until the day she was operative again.

    The Professor was true to his word. Every time he would get out of stasis, he would reactivate her first and give her tasks that sounded less and less like an ordinary test-bot's directive and more and more like the job of an actual personal assistant. Over time, a mutual respect established between them. Except in Alysanne's case, it was actually blossoming into something even deeper; affection, a feeling that an artificial intelligence should not have been able to emulate, but that she found growing increasingly strong within her programming. The day she found the courage to approach Ghertivel on the matter, his reaction was initially less than thrilled; he faulted the expressions she had just voiced to a malfunctioning of her software and ran several diagnostics on her neural network, but could find nothing amiss. A unit with a faulty programming was a liability, something that could potentially get out of scale and compromise his work. But when it came to give the order of reset her system to zero... Ghertivel just couldn't bring himself to do it.

    That's when things between them really changed. Although he continued to keep her at arms length, he grew more and more conscious that Alysanne meant something for him. Whether her affection just boosted his ego, or he found himself yearning for an emotional connection after years of reclusion and indifference, he honestly could not say - so he tried to not think too much of the entire matter at all. But it would all come to the forefront abruptly the day a massive upheaval threatened to put an end to his dreams of immortality.

    Several other test-bots had begun to develop sentience, which Ghertivel had accepted without much fuss in so long as it did not hinder their performance. And many of them began to realize the inherent cruelty of an existence where their only purpose was to suffer damage for statystical purposes. Eventually, a deranged test-bot named Prometheus took the lead of its fellow test-bots and staged a destructive rebellion against the Professor. A.R.G.O was able to incapacitate most of the deserters by forcing them to connect to his mainframe network and discharging intensely high voltage electric zaps against them until they were numb with pain. Prometheus, however, was faster and opened a port in his own arm, forcing Ghertivel's hand into it so that any attack against him would have electrocuted the Professor himself. With A.R.G.O's threat thus stalled, Prometheus was ready to kill his creator, had Alysanne not suddenly stepped in and attacked him head-on. In the ensuing combat she received some heavy beating and even got connected briefly to A.R.G.O's mainframe, where she took the blunt edge of his high voltage attack, begging that he did not interrupt the power surge for her sake as it was the only thing keeping the other androids from killing them all. Her bravery paid off, however, as it bought Ghertivel the material time to catch Prometheus by surprise and deactivate him for good.

    From that moment, nothing was ever the same. The Professor could speak platitudes about how a robot developing feelings of love and affection was just a glitch of programming - but he couldn't overlook the fact that she had risked her own existence and safety just to save his life. That changed everything, From then on, Alysanne was no longer employed in experiments and tests at all, instead acting as Leonard's advisor and - although neither would bother to give a label to their relationship - life partner. Years later, she would inspire his most ambitious project so far; a clone of himself, possessing his same intelligence, but genetically engineered with her own self-repair and diagnostic cybernetics, and thus fully immortal. Because he was derived from both of them in similar ways, Alysanne and Leonard never made a secret that they consider and treat Newton as their child. Loving both him and Ghertivel above all else, Alysanne has embraced her new existence, and can be often found assisting the Professor with his work or even just keeping Newton away from his father's instruments and devices.
