• Background

  
  Born into a wizarding family in 1972, Ailsa grew up in a magical household and lived alongside or in close proximity to Muggle dwellings. During her childhood, her parents worked together to teach their youngest child, as well as their older son Jacob, that they could not go around flaunting their magic. In particular, their mother was strict about the use of magic outside of school, refusing both of her children to ride a broomstick before they began attending school.
  
  At some point during Ailsa's childhood, tragedy struck the family when they received an owl from Professor Albus Dumbledore, informing them of Jacob's search for the fabled Cursed Vaults, and his subsequent expulsion for endangering his fellow students in his attempt to prove that they really existed. Shortly after being sent home, Jacob ran away and went missing; many believed that he went on to serve Lord Voldemort, whereas other rumours said he had returned to Hogwarts after his expulsion to resume his search. Ailsa would, years later, reject the former possibility.
  
  Shortly after receiving the Hogwarts acceptance letter, Ailsa travelled to Diagon Alley to buy school supplies, and met and befriended future fellow student and housemate Rowan Khanna, who came from a wizarding family of wood farmers. Rowan suggested to start at Flourish and Blotts. While picking up The Standard Book of Spells, Ailsa excitedly remarked how she looked forward to learning all the Charms; upon picking up Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, they said they were familiar with it and thought it to be brilliant. Afterwards, she journeyed to Ollivanders Wand Shop to purchase her first wand: Garrick Ollivander expressed both concern and curiosity about what sort of effect their brother's choices had made on his sister, but still looked forward to seeing what kind of life she would lead. When the shopping concluded, Ailsa and Rowan promised to see each other again on the train.

• Appearance

  Tall, broad-shouldered, yet soft-bodied, Ailsa has thick wavy hair that frames her heart-shaped face like a mane. She has large green eyes and thick eyebrows, a long nose and thin lips that are almost shapeless. She wears black circular glasses, and more often than not can be found wearing various pendants around her neck (and sometimes not just one!).

• Known Powers and Abilities

  Magical aptitude: An academically strong student, Ailsa quickly achieved very good results in her schoolwork and received praise from most of her teachers. She demonstrated tremendous ability and proved a cleverer student than most of her classmates, quickly mastering and becoming the best in most of the fields of magic taught in Hogwarts with little effort.
  
  Potions: Ailsa displayed a proficiency for potion-making, being able to brew everything from basic to moderately difficult concoctions to the desired effect. Most notably, she was able to brew a Fire-Breathing Potion flawlessly after only seeing the Potions Master do it once. Despite his personal dislike of the student, even Severus Snape himself had to admit that MacTavish had an undeniable gift for Potions.
  
  Charms: Undoubtedly influenced by her brother's own fondness for the subject, who, after all, was one of Professor Flitwick's most skilled students, Ailsa expressed excitement at the prospect of future Charms classes already before she arrived at school, and indeed, it went on to become the favourite class of both Ailsa MacTavish and her friend Rowan Khanna. Ailsa cast the best Wand-Lighting Charm that Professor Flitwick had seen from a first-year in a long time in her very first lesson, and was not only usually the first to master any new spell Professor Flitwick taught, such as the Disarming Charm, the Levitation Charm, the Unlocking Charm and the Knockback Jinx with little difficulty, and by the second year, she was capable of the Shrinking Charm to such an effect that she became the size of an insect and thus, virtually invisible to the naked eye. She could also just as easily reverse the effect with an Engorgement Charm without any experiencing any side effects. During class, Professor Flitwick would often commend Ailsa for her 'fine technique' and even request her to assist him in teaching the charm and demonstrate how to cast it properly to fellow classmates, with great effect. By the fourth year, she produced a Shield Charm that was strong enough to deflect a Blasting Curse from the much older and more experienced Patricia Rakepick when the latter educated her on said spell, visibly impressing her.
  
  Duelling: Ailsa quickly became a fairly skilful duellist, outclassing the likes of the more experienced Merula Snyde and even Bill Weasley, one of the most skilled students at Hogwarts, who had two years of education over them. By the end of her third year, She was able to outduel Barnaby Lee (the strongest wizard in her year) into submission and even defeat a boggart version of Lord Voldemort with a rudimentary reflection (but still considerable) of the Dark Lord's true powers. Though usually coming out triumphant in most duels against her peers, she was unable to beat Ben Copper in a duel to the death, who trounced her but was quickly defeated when Patricia Rakepick came for the rescue, striking him with a Blasting Curse. Ailsa's skills were so great that she could even temporarily hold off Fenrir Greyback while he was in his werewolf form by some swift-spell-casting.
  
  Transfiguration: Ailsa had considerable talent in Transfiguration, casting the best Reparifage spell during her first class on her first try, impressing even Professor Minerva McGonagall with her talent, who deemed her abilities in Transfiguration to belay her years. McGonagall was so impressed that she even offered to give Ailsa advanced transfiguration lessons outside the class. As a matter of fact, her skill in this subject was so advanced that already before graduating, she became a fully-fledged animagus from putting her mind to it with help from her friends Talbott, Penny, and Rowan.
  
  Healing magic: After taking care of an injured Rowan, Ailsa became an assistant of Madam Pomfrey, and studied healing magic on her own, who would eventually denote her as a natural Healer and an exceptional assistant, to the point of beginning to wonder if she might eventually proceed her in being responsible for the Hospital Wing one day, which certainly highlighted her skill and knowledge in medical magic.

  Angus MacTavish
  A jovial Scottish Wizard with a love of quidditch watching, Angus was a halfblood Hogwarts student in 1945-1952, and was sorted into Hufflepuff. Stopping over at Loch Ness on the way to visit friends in the Eastern Scottish Highlands, he met his future wife Roosmarijn who had stopped to see the World's Largest Kelpie, and quickly became enamoured. He is an established breeder of Kneazles. He steadfastly maintains that the MACtavishes are not related to the MCtavishes.
  
  Roosmarijn Sofie MacTavish - (née Simon)
  Roosmarijn was a Beauxbatons student of pureblood descent from 1950-1957, she moved to Scotland to further her career as a Magizoologist where she met Angus MacTavish a year later, who later became her husband in 1961. After Jacob's expulsion, she believed that the fabled Cursed Vaults at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry never truly existed, and appeared to think her son to have been wrong rather than mad. She was very strict when it came to upholding the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy and abiding by the Ministry of Magic's Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery. As a result, she forbade her children from using magic outside of school, not even allowing them to ride on broomsticks before they started at Hogwarts.
  
  Jacob MacTavish
  Ailsa's elder brother was named for Roosmarijn's uncle. Born in January 1963, he was educated in Hogwarts from 1974-1980. At age eleven, he went to Ollivander's in Diagon Alley, and caused Mr Olivander's favourite inkpot to explode when trying out wands. He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for an unknown period of time and was sorted into Ravenclaw. However, at some point during his later school career, Jacob began searching for the fabled Cursed Vaults, breaking all sorts of school rules and endangering the entire school in the process. At some point before he disappeared, he went to the Forbidden Forest and ran into a centaur named Torvus. He told Torvus of the Cursed Vaults and convinced him to help. Jacob wanted a Centaur's arrow for his search of the Cursed Vaults, but when Torvus refused, Jacob used magic to steal it from the camp. Although the exact consequences of his search are not widely known, his former peers and later students alike would discuss it long afterwards, chief among the many rumours being that he unleashed several curses upon the school, and even was cursed himself and that he eventually went mad. Ultimately, however, he was expelled from school. His expulsion was covered in the Daily Prophet. Shortly thereafter, he ran away from home and had been missing ever since. It was widely believed that Jacob joined Lord Voldemort following his disappearance. When his younger sister Ailsa eventually attended Hogwarts, they ended up being sorted into the same house he was, and were haunted by his negative reputation. Even so, Ailsa strongly rejected the idea of Jacob having ever had anything to do with "He Who Must Not Be Named", maintaining that Jacob loved his family, and he loved Hogwarts, expressing naught but concern for his well-being.

  Rowan Khanna
  Born c. 1972/1973, she was a British-Indian witch who began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1984. Her family owned a farm that supplied high-quality wood for the manufacture of wands and broomsticks.
  
  Ben Copper
  A Muggle-born wizard who began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1984 and was Sorted into Gryffindor. He is insecure about his capabilities. He also feared that people would judge him because of his Muggle-born status. It is also shown that his nervousness is his greatest hold back with his magic, since he was able to completely trounce, and almost kill, Ailsa while not even thinking about it.
  
  Penny Haywood
  A half-blood witch who began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1984. She was sorted into Hufflepuff house and was noted as being the most popular girl in her year. She was known for her skill at Potions, and has a phobia of Werewolves
  
  Nymphadora Tonks
  More commonly known as Tonks, occasionally Dora, was a half-blood witch and the only child of Ted and Andromeda Tonks (née Black). An incorrigible prankster, and a Metamorphmagus and attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1984-1991. She was Sorted into Hufflepuff House and was in the same year at Hogwarts as Gryffindor Charlie Weasley.
  
  Andre Egwu
  Born c. 1973, Andre was a wizard who began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1984 and was sorted into Ravenclaw. A big fan of the Pride of Portree Quidditch team, Andre is a very talented Quidditch player himself, and is considered the best Quidditch player at the school, though he himself thought that Charlie Weasley was better.
  
  Badeea Ali
  Badeea was a Muslim witch who started attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1984 and was sorted into Ravenclaw. A creatively ingenious soul, she took an instant interest in the portraits that hung all throughout the castle from the moment she set foot in the castle and proceeded to spend most of her time outside of her lessons experimenting with the creation of magical paintings of people and places, and the necessary spellwork required to make them come to life. A brilliant student, she had already successfully mastered how to apparate by her fifth year, although she did not have a licence and hence not allowed to do so.
  
  Liz "Lizard" Tuttle
  Liz was a witch who began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1984 and was Sorted into Slytherin. She chose Care of Magical Creatures as one of her electives. She was not good at befriending other people, and most saw her as weird. She seemed to care more about the well-being of magical creatures than humans, and had the desire to become a Magizoologist like Newt Scamander.
  
  Tulip Karasu
  A British witch of Turkish descent, she began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1984 and was sorted into Ravenclaw. She was eccentric, had a disregard for rules, and valued intelligence in others.
  
  Talbott Winger
  Talbott was a wizard who attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1984 and was sorted into Ravenclaw house. He was also an Animagus and took the form of an eagle. At some point in the 1970s or early 1980s his parents were murdered by Death Eaters. During the First Wizarding War, his parents tried to help in the war efforts against Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters. In response, the Dark Lord's followers attacked their home, a conflict during which both of his parents were murdered while Talbott himself successfully escaped with his life thanks to his Animagus ability. Fearing discovery by death-eaters after Voldemort's demise, Talbott delayed registering himself as an Animagus.
  
  Bill Weasley
  William Arthur "Bill" Weasley (b. 29 November, 1970) was the first child of Arthur and Molly Weasley (née Prewett) and the eldest brother of Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny. He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1982-1989 and was both a prefect and Head Boy.
  
  Charlie Weasley
  Charles "Charlie" Weasley (b. 12 December, 1972) was the second eldest son of Arthur and Molly Weasley (née Prewett), younger brother of Bill Weasley and the elder brother of Percy, George, Ron, Ginny, and the late Fred Weasley.
  
  Merula Snyde
  Merula's parents were Death Eaters who supported Lord Voldemort. After the Dark Lord's demise in 1981, her parents were captured and sent to Azkaban. Attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1984 she was sorted into Slytherin. Merula was the first major antagonist Ailsa encountered during her time in Hogwarts and remains a persistent rival to her throughout the years.
  
  Barnaby Lee
  Barnaby was a wizard who began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1984 and was sorted into Slytherin. Both his father and mother were Death Eaters that supported Lord Voldemort. Barnaby's father often told him that he needed to be strong, which became very important for Barnaby when he grew older. When he was a child, before the end of the First Wizarding War, he remembered seeing the Dark Lord when he came to see his parents. After Voldemort's demise on 31 October 1981, his parents were captured and sent to Azkaban and was raised by his uncle Cecil.
