Marvinn

A feline with shock-bright orange fur patterned with soft white stripes. His snowy paws are wound around with black leather, as if prepared for some wild adventure despite how he never seems to be found anywhere but sitting down or pacing his lab. A wispy fray of thick, white hair sits atop his head, running down into frazzled sideburns.

His tail, fluffier at the base, tapers towards the end and suddenly frizzes outwards in similar white fluff to the hair on his head, tied with a red ribbon in some approximation of neatness by someone who doesn't know the meaning of the word. His casual clothes leave something to be desired - not in the make of them, but in the way his white jumpsuit is stuffed lazily into his black leather footguards as though the idea of taking these off and putting them on again more neatly is a concept he's brushed off all day. Over the top of this, he wears the only neat item of clothing he owns: a heavy, black, leather-like tunic with a high collar that he designed and made himself.

While one blue-green eye stands out almost garishly against his fur, the other is covered by what looks to be a homemade eyepiece, the thick magnifying lens tinted a dark red.

Marvinn is very animated, positive, and easily-excited, though he can be pretty sardonic towards others if he thinks he's right about something. A lot of gesturing and pacing gets him through a conversation, and he rarely makes eye contact - because he's not particularly well-practiced at being social and it's easier to handle if he's distracted from the fact there's another person in the room.

He pursues conversational topics with a fervent attitude and he will take any opportunity to learn something new, no matter the subject or context. When presented with a problem, he'll try his hardest to fix it as well as possible, "innovative" solutions included, until he's either solved the issue or overshot the mark so hard someone had to tell him to stop.

He has good intentions, and can learn to care about others, but this happens on a case-by-case basis, and his clinical approach to new meetings can be off-putting. It's hard to relax around someone who scrutinises you through a weird eyepiece when he thinks you're not looking, then averts his gaze when you are.

He loves to learn new things beyond all else. The pursuit of knowledge can drive him to lose sleep and neglect personal hygiene (making him visibly dishevelled, and often means he carries the smell of chemical smoke and forges). These moods come and go in waves, and as such it's easy to tell if he's troubled by something if you know him well: he'll be twice as animated, extremely preoccupied, and probably smells like his basement.

These are the items that Marvinn carries on his person at all times.

CORRECTIONAL EYEPIECE
The eyepatch/red lens combo that Marvinn wears is specially crafted to correct the vision in his left eye. If this is lost, removed against his will, or damaged, expect him to work extremely hard to get it back. It was hard to make! When he isn't wearing this, he'll be wearing a pair of glasses. He has a few, and none of them are quite his prescription.

SHOCKPROOF COAT
The leather-like (faux-leather, but stronger) material that makes up Marvinn's black tabard-coat is highly shock-absorbent due to the specially-engineered materials it's made of. A hard punch or a kick will send him flying as normal, but damage to his body will be minimal as the coat absorbs most of it, kind of like a magical non-Newtonian fluid. Better aim for the face. It's also a very heavy coat, not that he expects you to try it on. It's thick enough to withstand a lot of damage, and inside the faux-leather is a layer of antimagic fibre - more than necessary in his line of work.

TINKERER'S TOOLKIT
A small, travel-sized, flattish case containing some assorted tools. It contains a screwdriver with multiple heads, a scalpel, tweezers, pliers, a metal file, a small hammer, various pins, a small box of thumbtacks, some safety-pins, glue, and a palm-sized notebook and pencil. He won't always have exactly what he needs to solve a problem or fix (and "improve") a broken item, but he's usually got enough to give it a go.

20/20 VISION
Without his correctional eyepiece, he has to close or cover his left eye, or else end up developing a pretty nasty migraine from trying to focus it along with the right one. He gets to choose either depth perception + migraine, or no depth perception + whatever awkward way he's covering his eye. When wearing his eyepiece, he can function normally. He developed the eyepiece himself through trial and error, and it will take a little while to craft a new one.
Without the eyepiece, the sight in his left eye is far too bright and very blurry, as if someone just set off a flash-bulb three inches away, except permanently.

WEIRD SCIENCE
Marvinn has a ravenous attitude towards knowledge and learning. If there's something he doesn't understand or a problem he can't solve, he will stop at nothing to fix it. He's resourceful and clever, though sometimes his imagination can run away with him and end up with a solution more complex than it needs to be. He's an inventor at heart, and engineering some new way of solving a problem could involve anything from complex magitech to banging rocks together... but usually it's magitech. Weaving magic into technology is his specialty, and a lot more fun (he thinks) than one or the other.

SOCIALLY INEPT
While he has good intentions, Marvinn is a terrible communicator. He's easily distracted, gets carried away very quickly, and spends most of his time alone in a laboratory talking to himself. He's not good at social cues, and will need to take time to learn every new person individually before he understands how to attentively respond to their moods and needs. He talks fast, a lot, and mostly to himself, unless you've told him off before - in which case he'll do his best to match your energy and catch himself a bit more.

He doesn't understand other people very well by default. Privately, he wishes he did, and finds himself gravitating towards others who show him even the slightest bit of approval.
