Bionicle Characters

Just a few useful terms for those who aren't familiar with bionicle, or aren't as deep into the lore.

Matoran: The main inhabitants of the Matoran universe, they come in 16 varieties, Ta/Fire, Ga/Water, Ko/Ice, Le/Air, Po/Rock, Onu/Earth, Av/Light, Kra/Shadow, Fe/Iron, Fa/Magnetism, De/Sonics, Ce/Psionics, Ba/Gravity, Bo/Plantlife, Su/Plasma, and Vo/Electricity.
Despite each matoran having innate elemental energy, they are incapable of using it, however this energy gives the matoran a resistance, or slight enhancement, pertaining to their element, save for Av and Kra-Matoran who can fire bolts of light/Shadow energy. Kra-Matoran aren't natural, and only come about when another Matoran's light is drained, corrupting them and turning them evil. Though this isn't enforced by any laws, typically Matoran gravitate to communities made of their particular element.

Toa: From the same species as the Matoran. They come about when a destined Matoran is given Toa energy. They are physically transformed, becoming taller and stronger. They have access to all of their elemental powers, with most being able to create, control, and absorb their native element. They all have Toa Tools, weapons that they can channel their elemental powers through, and Kanohi, masks of power.

Turaga: From the same species as the Matoran and Toa. When a Toa's destiny is finished they may sacrifice their Toa Energy to become a Turaga if they choose, though in some cases the nature of a Toa's destiny may require them to become a Turaga. They have access to their elemental powers, and mask powers, but at a much weakened state.

Protodermis: The substance that makes up everything in the Matoran Universe. It's an artificial substance and can be found in liquid, solid, frozen, metallic, and organic forms.

Kanohi: A mask of power. All Matoran, Toa, and Turaga wear them. Without one, a Matoran will eventually go into a coma and possibly die if the mask is not found or replaced. A Toa and a Turaga are significantly weakened by their removal. Matoran are incapable of using a Mask's power, Toa and Turaga can use mask powers, though Turaga mask powers are generally weaker than a Toa's. Kanohi come in three variants that can all be worn by Toa, Matoran, and Turaga, Powerless, Great, and Noble. Each mask grants it's own powers and are typically forged to fit a particular base appearance, though a mask's power and appearance are not inherently connected.

Rahi: Basically the animals of the Matoran Universe. They're biomechanical, like the Matoran, and come in many different shapes and sizes.

Kanoka: Disks of protodermis. They come in 8 power levels, and all have different properties depending on where they're made. They are frequently used to make masks, level 6 or lower disks make a powerless, level 7 disks make a noble, and level 8 disks make a great.

Mata Nui: The Great Spirit. Basically the Matoran god.

Spherus Magna: The planet all these characters are native to.

Matoran Universe: The world within Mata Nui's former body. The Matoran originate from here, as do many of the other racesand all the Rahi. It has since been abandoned after the Makuta's defeat.

Okoto Nui: The island most of these characters live on. It was originally a barren volcanic island in the middle of the ocean, before the Toa Magna stepped in and altered it into the lush paradise it is now. It is roughly the size of Australia. It was made with the intent of allowing Matoran to live their lives as they had in the Matoran Universe before they came to Spherus Magna. Though it was intended as a home specifically for the Matoran, the other races, native to Spherus Magna or the Matoran Universe, are allowed to live on the island.

Oko: The word used to refer to the seven Provinces of the island, each having an elemental Prefix based off prominent features of the region. Ta-Oko is the province the island's Volcano is found in. Ga-Oko is the region with the largest body of water in it. Le-Oko has massive forests, which spill over into Ga-Oko. Ko-Oko is the northern most province and is the coldest, having tall frozen mountains. Onu-Oko is also mountainous, like it's neighboring province, but has many deep subterranean caverns. Po-Oko is a large region of mostly savanah, save for the massive desert in its center. Lastly, Av-Oko is the at the center of the island.

Ifo: The word for capital. There is one capital for each of the elements in each Oko. Though typically these cities are made up mostly of one particular type of Matoran, there's no hard rule preventing Matoran of other types, or even Agori from living in these cities.

Toa Magna: The Toa Team that created the island of Okoto. They were made up of Ekiimu(Light), Narmoto(Fire), Izotor(Ice), Vizuna(Air), Kivoda(Water), Nilkuu(Stone), and Korgot(Earth). They have since become the Turaga of Okoto.
