  • A Goddess in Mortal Skin
    That's what they said of her since her birth. Three little runes at the small of her back dictated this to them, despite their adamant insisting Asteria never bought into it. Only following along with their training and plans to keep them sated. The church believes she is a reincarnate of their beloved sun goddess, but despite years of failed attempts to bring out her 'powers' they still insist upon it. Asteria had long since given up on changing their mind. For months out of the year they would sweep her away into the Northern Temple. Where the original statue of the goddess stood in a frigid pool of spring water. They would have her stand in a ceremonial gown in the spring and pray, hours and hours would pass yet there she would remain.

    Years of this torment prompted a fear that will never fully go away. The young woman can't even look at a still body of water without feeling icy waves of fear crash over her bones. Despite the constant torture from the church she kept a smile gracing her lips in front of the people. Her father praising her strength, he taught her how to fight from a young age so seeing her broken over the church would've felt like a failure on his part. Asteria did her best to appear strong, brave, and happy though inside she was struggling. She constantly was berated for being unable to connect with the goddess. It left her questioning her spirituality along with her place in the world. They were so sure she was an incarnate they wouldn't take her failure as an answer.
  • Just a Woman
    Asteria tends to be fairly aggressive and brash. Though, she does excellently hiding this in the eyes of the court under the pressure of her actions reflecting poorly on her father. Outside of the court she can hold her own in a fight, verbal or physical. She's strong for her size and knows how to use her small size to her advantage in a scuffle. Quick witted and more than a bit snarky she often gives the air of a spoiled princess but most of the time it's a farce. She's immensely insecure in her station of life and doesn't know how to fix it, so she lashes out at anyone within arms reach who she can justify. With this comes her tendency to sneak out of the castle when she knows there is nothing for her to immediately tend to. Often leaving in the dead of night for a simple ride on one of the palace horses, sometimes she goes further, however.

    More than once she's been found in the morning after drinking several people under the table. Though, she can't hold her alcohol for long, while in the moment she's fine the backlash is worse than it should typically be. Asteria was never one for flattery or flirtatious natured people. Too many noblemen have tried and failed at wooing the young princess. She never showed interest and instead simply left them with bruised egos, and eyes if they got too handsy for her liking. Despite the subtle pressure of the council for her to wed she ignored it. Knowing she could use the churches beliefs against the council if they tried to force her to marry before she wanted, which may be never. The thought of marriage makes her uneasy at her core. Love, she wouldn't mind. But why did they have to be married?
