    • November 5, 1840 - Born as Gertrude Ross in Ohio
    • 1859 - Married Abraham White, a man of moderate wealth and standing
    • June 8, 1861 - Has son - Oliver
    • 1862 - Abe joins the war effort on the Union side.
    • 1863 - Receives a letter that Abe is officially MIA. He never returns.
    • 1864 - Begins writing. Some of her stories get picked up by local newspapers.
    • 1869 - Needing a change, Trudy takes Ollie and heads west for a job as a reporter.
    • 1870 - Spring. Two children (siblings) arrive in town to live with their uncle. But when their uncle fails to meet them, Trudy takes them into her care for "just the night."
    • 1870 - Early summer. Days turn into weeks and weeks into months when it becomes known that the uncle has passed and there is no response to letters to their mother.
    • 1870 - Late summer. After a favor from a friend, the children are legally transferred to her care until a living relative can be located.
