Morwyn Cadwaladr

Among the people of Wolgast, magic is considered a gift, a mark of divine favor. Every priest to every god possesses it, each bestowed with powers specific to their service. For a child to be touched by it is considered the greatest cause for celebration, an announcement that one is truly favored by the gods. Morwyn, the daughter of Uther Cadwaladr and his wife was such a child, with one eye of silver and the other of gold. While her elder brother, the crown prince Aneirin, was the one set to inherit their father's throne, Morwyn's arcane talents would not allow her to fade into the background typical of the second-born.

Both siblings were dutiful and took on their respective roles. Aneirin trained for his expected role as war leader and head of state. Morwyn studied magic under the kingdoms greatest and most highly respected witches, priests, and magicians. All to find her unique talents. She soon revealed herself to be a witch connected to the most ancient of magics, nature. The plants, roots, rivers, and animals, the oldest and most enigmatic of spirits. When she was deemed of proper skill, she was given a chalice of dragon's blood. She drank of each burning drop until she felt her insides aflame, and for her efforts was rewarded the ability to speak with animals. Morwyn Dragon-Blessed became a name uttered in many a conversation throughout the land. In time of course, Morwyn joined her brother on the battlefield against their nation's enemies. Aneirin took his place at the head of their army, while Morwyn took her place at the back with the rest of the mages. They got creative. Manipulating the environment with tempests, vipers leaping from their nests, wailing spirits of the dead, pillars of flame, and more. Wolgast had been and always would be an adversary to be feared. Where other nations may have tolerated or simply utilized magic, Wolgast cultivated it.

So brother and sister both proved themselves worthy of being the subject of tales and song. As legends they were Aneirin, Render of Souls and Morwyn Dragon-Blessed. As people they were but duty-bound siblings, doing their best with the conflicts they had inherited from their forefathers with the skills at their disposal. Aneirin saw the human cost of endless war generation to generation. Morwyn saw the heartsick nature of the land and the disturbance of the spirits. War may have meant glory, but they swore that if they had the chance for peace, for a chance to heal the wounds in the flesh of earth and their people, they would take it.
