• Personality

  Morcant is easily agitated and seems not to feel many of the emotions that people perhaps should fee, especially guilt. He honestly considers himself better than most people by status, blood, and power. Because of his history with his mother and sister he is highly distrustful of women and hates those in authority positions, believing that all women in those positions are out to hurt others (specifically him). Although he dislikes women, it doesn’t make him gay; he does enjoy a woman’s body. This conflicts him and he usually seeks out weak women that he can feel he has some power over, then never stays with them long at all.
  
  Morcant tends to be suspicious and curious; he likes to spy and eavesdrop on people, and then use any information he gets against him, or just keep it for later. He isn’t easily dominated by others either, any physical advances usually result in him lashing out in self defense or anger. If theres ever a time he feels like he isn’t in control of a situation he becomes very anxious. Other than these internal problems, outwardly he seems cruel and sarcastic, often taking the time to mock someone in pain.
  
  Please note that he is not a loner and is fairly in control of himself. He can be polite and well mannered if he wants to be, and he does enjoy the company of other people if not for any other reason than to show off.

• History

  Morcant’s mother came from a noble family in which many of the females possessed an innate ability to manipulate shadows. She found this ability to be favorable and decided she wanted to breed true, so scoured the world looking for others like herself. Upon finding a man with the same connection to shadow she effectively raped him and killed him. She was very pleased to soon give birth to a beautiful purebred baby girl. However she was not satisfied with just one powerful child, and went searching again. After a long wait she managed to find a dark mage even more powerful than her first mate. Again she took his seed, but this time he was more than a match for her and she was unable to destroy him.
  
  Morcant’s mother had high hopes for this child; she hoped for a girl and expected a fantastic power to go with it. Well, she got one of those things. Unfortunately for Morcant he was not only born male, but his father’s features were a bit too strong, leaving him with blond hair and orange eyes instead of the silver hair and gray eyes that were signature traits of the Hargrave family. His mother was greatly disappointed in him from the moment he was born, and considered killing him right there, but in a stroke of luck for Morcant she instead decided to raise him to be his sister’s servant.
  
  From birth he was then trained to serve his sister and mother’s every whim, raised in complete darkness with barely even the light of a candle ever crossing his vision. They taught him that he was less than they because he was male, of impure blood because of his looks, and that he would never be worth anything unless he was serving them. He believed it too, for he didn’t know any other way. They were not kind to him, his mother sometimes poisoning him on purpose to teach her daughter how to create antidotes, and often harming him if he didn’t obey them or failed in a task. He was not allowed to read spellbooks or learn how to use any of the power that he possessed.
  
  All of this ended when he was five though. They came at once, both his first exposure to sunlight and probably the most traumatic event in his life. As with all of his kind the shadow that fueled his mother’s power had begun to consume her, and the more she fought it the more she weakened herself. In the throes of death she went outside hoping her explosive end would not harm the children. Finally it destroyed her completely and the release of energy partially destroyed their tower home, exposing Morcant to sunlight for the first time in his life. This forever associated his mother’s horrific death with the light of the sun, and from that day on he has had severe Heliophobia, going into a complete panic attack every time he even sees sunlight. Sunlight has no actual effects on him other than his terror.
  
  Without their mother the two children soon had to fend for themselves. Traveling only at night, they left the safety of their half crumbled home and ventured out into a nearby city where they relied on the kindness and pity of strangers to survive. After a few years there they again moved on, ending up in a city where they met their cousin and took up residence at his mansion. Because of this sort of upbringing Morcant never had any real book-learning until he was about 10, only knowing how to use his powers through trial and error. He now desires to fill in this gap and expand his magical knowledge as well as seek a way to extend his life, since at the moment his expectancy is about six more years before his powers devour him.

  Note: While many of Morcant’s issues do stem from past traumas he should not be treated with pity, he is deep down a psychopath and quite ruthless when ticked off. His shadow has a mind of its own as well and can hurt or help others, but it never does anything without some purpose that benefits itself in some way.
