  The conception of Kendrall was a tragic one at best. His mother was one of the Revered Daughters of E'li (Paladine), and due to the many interactions between the Empire of Ergoth, the Solamnic Province of Southlund and the Qualinesti nation, humans and Qualinesti alike could be seen mingling with one another at various festivals and feasts that often took place along the border between the two nations. It was during the Autumn Harvest when Kendrall's mother was brutally forced by a group of brigands led by one minor noble - the son of a powerful merchant at Daltigoth. Had it not been for the timely intervention of the Wildrunners, the Revered Daughter could have easily been killed after the incident. All but one man survived the volley of well-placed arrows, and that man fled back to Daltigoth on horseback to tell the tale of woe to the Lothalesean family that their only son had perished.
  
  Naturally, the Merchant Council at Daltigoth were quick to accuse the Qualinesti of murdering the son of a noble family. Yet the Honored Speaker pointed out during his spirited defense that the Wildrunners were only coming to the defense of a Revered Daughter; and as the Lothalesean family paid homage to the gods of Light, they were loathe to learn their sole heir committed a grievous offense against the Church of the Platinum Dragon. Restitution was paid to the Qualinesti, and all sides returned to their peaceful state once more.
  
  It was during the summer solstice when Kendrall was born, and as he was both borne out of wedlock *and* the result of a forced union between a human and Qualinesti, the Revered Daughter had little choice but to give up her newborn son for adoption. A group of pilgrims were making their way to Caergoth, where the Knights of the Rose were known to have a powerful presence, and agreed to take the child with them and find a willing family to take him in. The only provisions were that the family be faithful followers of Paladine, and that Kendrall's heritage be hidden from him. The only clue to his heritage would be a medallion imprinted with the Lothalesean coat of arms.
  
  For the next two decades Kendrall grew up as the adopted son of a prominent Knight of the Rose; but instead of following the path of knighthood, he chose to follow the path of the clergy, working his way up through the ranks of the Church. Kendrall would often undertake various evangelical missions on behalf of the Church, becoming well-traveled (and well-known) throughout most of Eastern Ergoth, Qualinesti, and Western Solamnia as he spread the message of Paladine, holding fast to the tenets of both the Qualinesti and Ergothian doctrine. However, his journey through the southern and eastern provinces of Solamnia proved to be very difficult, as he often clashed in theological arguments with messengers from the Istarian Church. Kendrall held fast that Paladine was interested in keeping the balance between dark and light by holding the forces of darkness in check; the Istarians argued that Paladine - and the rest of the gods of Light - were only interested in ultimately destroying the Dark Queen and her allies. Violence was never permitted between fellow clergymen, but the arguments nearly came to blows on several occasions.
  
  By the time he was twenty-five, Kendrall received a vision from Paladine himself: To travel to a destroyed temple near the outskirts of Karthay, and cleanse it; then find a hidden temple of the Black Wind and kill the Nightmaster. Kendrall didn't know what to make of it, but he knew there was little point in disobeying a divine directive. Setting forth from Caergoth on horseback, the half-elven priest followed the main road to Kalaman, then pressed on to Istar. He wasn't well received there, but a kindly innkeeper allowed him to stay the night and rest his horse. The following morning, Kendrall eventually reached the area where the destroyed Temple of Paladine was, but it was no easy task. Various demons and undead roamed about, but the young priest held fast in his faith, calling upon the power of his deity to drive the demons into the Abyss and putting to rest the foul undead creatures. Nothing could have prepared him for what he was about to find once inside the main chamber: the corpse of a High Priestess affixed to the far wall above a broken altar, held fast by a large black spear.
  
  Grief and rage filled the young man's heart, and before he could approach the altar to take down the corpse the ghost of the High Priestess attacked him. It nearly succeeded in possessing Kendrall's body twice, and both times he was able to resist. Calling once more on the divine power of his deity, Kendrall was finally able to put the High Priestess' spirit to rest, then moved to take down the corpse and give the long-tormented and fallen woman a proper burial. Her ghost appeared to him once more, but instead of moving to attack him, she thanked him for finally setting her free, and presented him with a holy symbol forged from pure platinum, shaped in the symbol of a magnificent dragon. The ghost then directed him to look for the way to where her inner chamber once stood, and find where she once kept the "items of the office of the High Priesthood", then dissipated into the light.
  
  Kendrall eventually managed to find what the High Priestess' spirit was referring to: a well-crafted chain shirt, a hooded cloak made of purest white wool trimmed in silver, an exquisite-looking heavy mace, a set of bracers that appeared to have never been worn, and a round metal shield. Equipped with his new gear, the young man knew he now had to fulfill the second part of his divine quest; to find the Nightmaster of the Black Wind. But where to look?
