Daughter of the War God

It was on her 100th birthday that Kayami learned the truth about who she was. She woke up one morning, only to realize she had grown a tail and ears overnight. She panicked and began to look for those responsible for this curse. Yet, for as many wicked shamans and demons as she cut down across the land, it became no use.

Despair began to sink in as this ‘curse’ continued to not disappear. However, she thought she would soon find her answer by attacking the greatest evil of them all; the Kyubi no Kitsune. After finding her layer, Kayami would find that she was not greeted by disdain and hatred for a goddess… but with welcoming arms. The Kyubi no Kitsune treated her… as though she was family.

Kayami initially acted with disdain and hatred, insisting that the Kyubi could not trick her. However, it soon became clear as she took the form of Bishamonten’s female avatar, just as her father had described all those years ago. The Kyubi no Kitsune… was her mother.

The experience overturned Kayami’s entire perspective. Her entire life was a lie! She had been decades fighting for divine justice… when she was nothing more than a yokai herself. In rage, she attacked her mother, only for her to disappear, leaving Kayami in her sorrow.

The dichotomy that was her life ate at her, but she could never give up; her morals were too high for that. Time passed, and she grew more tails with each passing century. Yet, with time came knowledge. Kayami began to master the powers of illusion, fox fire, and manipulation. She blended with society well, but she began to be unable to quell her desire for blood and flesh.
Eventually, in her 1000th year of life, she gained her ninth tail. Her mastery of the yokai arts was at a peak, but as was her hunger. However, even in the far future, she never forgot her father’s teachings. She only consumed the blood and flesh of the guilty, for which there were plenty.
