Kali'va

What could she be? A freak of nature? An accident of magic? Kali’va is a larger than life sergal used to doing as she pleases. Is it any surprise some in the city call her Boss? Nearly a ton of predator tends to get her way.
Not a bad thing when you want to indulge certain urges. Predators should be bold and their pleasures savored, at least according to Kali’va. Every member of the Kemono-Gumi embraces this ideal, making their parties the stuff of urban legend. Maybe tonight’s centerpiece is a willing participant, or snatched off the busy streets. Kali’va’s hand in the black market ensures she and her guests revel lavishly when they please. It’s not unheard of for guests to vanish with a smile in such company. After all everyone is a beast at heart living according to their instincts, their desires.
And every night is another hunt for that which will satisfy.

Sure she's glamorous now in a dangerous kind of way, but only because she crafts her image to be that. Knowing the power of the pen over the sword, Kali encourages the wild stories about her rise to power over the rival syndicates. Those who check can usually find just enough truth to make some of it plausible. Most who keep an eye on this sergal agree that the albino fennec at her side and the fat racoon in her office have been around the longest. When they do speak of her, it's always with the respect of the well cared for.
The story goes that Kali'va was never a member of any syndicate. Most groups associated by species and sergals were a genuine rarity. Add to that an economy in decline and low-rent housing and you get the picture of Kali's early days. To make ends meet, she worked in a warehouse owned by the coyotes. The subordinate of an associate has no real status in the underworld, or money. What happened specifically is never spoken of however, the associate disappeared, Kali took over the warehouse, and a white fennec turned up as her assistant. Now that shipments moved reliably through the warehouse and profits were on the rise, Kali's place with the coyotes seemed all but assured. The only hitch being that she would never be one of them, just another associate.
During a time when the coyotes needed to reconsolidate their territory, Kali's neighborhood found itself abandoned. Though the coyotes were criminals, they kept the order. Now every tough wanting to make a name tried to claim territory. The warehouse shutdown and Kali was discarded. During her time working for them, Kali made it a point to learn the coyotes' business so in the power vacuum she simply moved in behind. Locals with a stake in the neighborhood joined from every species to lend their talents. Initially it was for protection but eventually the group grew into their own syndicate. The coyotes took the challenge.
The gang war came down to a question of money versus determination. The coyotes were working for a paycheck and retirement fund. Kali's group needed to keep their homes safe. By the time the dust settled, the last head of the coyotes was missing and the various families had to resolve the dispute before it grew into a major incident. The most expedient solution, it was decided, would be to award Kali's people status as a new family within the syndicate hierarchy and turnover the coyote territory to them. To most, it would seem Kali achieved her end goals but the rumor is she's looking for fresh talent in unusual places.

The Kemono-gumi advertise themselves as the family for all beasts. Others might want to limit themselves to a specific species or perhaps a family of the animal kingdom. The Kemono-gumi are not that discerning believing diversity on their roster is a true strength. So far no one has been able to dispute the results, leading some traditionalists to face very tough questions.
Outwardly the group presents themselves as logistical experts. Goods get delivered on time to anywhere when you need it. Warehouses always have room for more. If you happen to need something, they know where to find it at a good price. Locals within the Kemono-gumi's territory know that you never cross the group, but if you pay on time then your safety is assured. Kali employs a number of enforcers to protect the citizens, insisting the group give everyone their money's worth. How exactly her people go about making the problems vanish is left to their discretion. Kemono-gumi provides results every time. Staffing
Shiro, a white-furred fennec, functions as the group's headquarters chief. He oversees the day to day operations within Kali's home itself and often accompanies her on outings to arrange transportation. As Kali's house also doubles for the Kemono-gumi's main office this makes Shiro a respected and well-known figure among his peers. He seldom speaks to anyone outside the group leading many to ignore him but those large ears aren't for show.
Mujina, a pot-bellied raccoon, serves as the administrative head for the group. Anything the Kemono-gumi do for money usually has his fingers all over it. As boisterous as he is, no one seems to ever talk much out of him he isn't willing to give away. Rumor has it he got his job by tricking Kali into a legal contract, something Mujina never denies.
The Captain's position is vacant. Although most syndicates would want to distance the family head from daily criminal activity, Kali tends to take a very hands on approach to leadership. This suits the lieutenants just fine for the most part since their loyalty goes to her first. Eventually though someone's bound to want more than he's got.

Kali'va is a violent character with a love of pain and blood. She's reputed to occasionally eat people. If this isn't a risk you want your character to take, let me know so I can tone her down. It's no fun for me if it isn't fun for you.
