  • Beginning

    "They won't follow you."
    
    "They don't trust you."
    
    I was haunted by these simple sentences for a millenia. It was prompted by my need to prove myself, to join the Army of the Court. I wanted to show that I wasn't the same, that I was loyal to our Court. I was a Prince and would not allow myself to waver in my conviction as she had.
    
    Lips set in a grim smile, I thanked him for his counsel, donned my armor, and joined the lists regardless. I trained with them, stayed in camp with them. I would not be just a leader, another noble who liked the title but not the work. I sought their respect.
    
    I met Klaire in secret after she left for the Winter court. I could not abandon my blood as the rest had; it was I who watched her slow transition from the beautiful girl I knew.
    
    When the King and Queen discovered this, I was punished. Brought before the court, held between guards while a third yanked my head back by the scalp. The hair that all Sidhe are proud of, the very symbol of our status, chopped clean off. Humiliated. My father held the knife that severed it.
    
    For years, I was a black spot on our lineage. Persona non grata. The Untouchable. I never saw my sister again. I could not risk a second offence.
    
    All of my energy was poured into defeating any enemy that was named. I obeyed orders.

  • King of Spring

    This shift in power, of the Solstice, was different. He was to be given a new title and command.
    
    The Autumn and Spring courts would be pulled from history and reestablished in the mortal realm.
    
    I am crowned, King of the Spring Court. My anonymity is gone. They all know my secret.
