The Daegni race encompasses a wide range of sizes, spanning from the diminutive stature of pixies to the awe-inspiring heights of colossal individuals, reaching a towering 5 to 9 feet. Their physical forms reflect a fusion of one to two canine species and one insect species, resulting in a stunning amalgamation of features.

One of the most distinctive traits of the Daegni is the presence of translucent crystals that grow along their fur. These crystals serve as both adornments and conduits of their innate magic. When a Daegni employs their magical abilities, these crystals emit a radiant glow, accentuating their otherworldly presence. The crystals vary in color and size, representing the unique magical affinity and individuality of each Daegni.

Additionally, mostly every Daegni possesses a pair of shimmering wings, reminiscent of either ethereal insects or graceful fairies. These wings possess a delicate translucency and are adorned with intricate veins. They provide the Daegni with the magical ability to fly, enabling them to navigate the Feywild with grace and agility.

Another characteristic feature of the Daegni is the presence of antennae that sprout from their eyes. These antennae, an inheritance from their Feywild origins, further enhance their sensory perception, enabling them to detect subtle magical energies and navigate their surroundings with heightened awareness.

The Daegni's fur serves as a canvas for the display of their inherent magic. Nebula-like markings, known as feylight markings, adorn their bodies. These markings glow with vibrant colors, symbolizing the magical essence within each Daegni. The feylight markings are unique to every individual, showcasing their personal magical signature.

Although the Daegni possess a captivating and ethereal appearance, they are considered "fragile" creatures. While their crystals and magical abilities offer them a certain level of resilience, their skeletal structure inherited from their insect and canine heritage renders their bones weak. Nevertheless, their fur and skin are surprisingly thick and resilient, providing them with some measure of protection. The hardness of the crystals on a Daegni's body depends on the specific type of stone chosen, and it is essential for the staff to ensure that each Daegni possesses a distinct stone to maintain individuality.

In terms of temperament and abilities, the Daegni predominantly rely on their wit and mastery of magic to navigate their lives. They possess an inherent understanding and connection to the mystical energies of the Feywild, enabling them to wield potent spells and weave enchantments with ease. They often utilize their magical prowess to delegate physical tasks to others, preferring to focus on the intellectual and arcane aspects of life.

However, amidst the predominantly magic-focused Daegni society, there are rare exceptions known as warrior Daegni. These individuals eschew heavy reliance on magic and instead hone their physical strength and combat skills. Through arduous training and relentless dedication, these warrior Daegni develop formidable muscles and rely on brawn to face challenges head-on. The warrior Daegni are esteemed for their physical prowess and provide a balance to the predominantly magical nature of their race.

Unique Patterns: Each Daegni possesses a distinct and individual Feylight pattern. Just as every star in the night sky is unique, the arrangement and design of the Feylight on each Daegni's body are one-of-a-kind. The patterns can range from delicate swirls to intricate cosmic formations, reflecting the Daegni's connection to the celestial realm.

Varied Colors: The colors of the Feylight are diverse and can differ greatly from one Daegni to another. Within the Feylight, there are three distinct sub-types, each with its unique characteristics. These sub-types represent different aspects of the Daegni's magical nature. While it is possible for a Daegni to have multiple colors within their Feylight, they will always belong to a single sub-type. The sub-types are not determined by the Daegni's Court affiliation, but rather by their inherent magical essence.

Nebula: Nebula Feylight showcases wisps of swirling colors resembling the vast expanse of cosmic clouds. The Base coat Feylight is the foundational type of Feylight that appears on the main body color of the Daegni. It covers the primary coat color and is not affected by other markings or gradients.

Main Body Color: The Base coat Feylight is specifically tied to the Daegni's main body color, which is the primary hue that covers the majority of their fur. It does not extend onto any other markings or colors present on the Daegni's body.

Overlapping Markings: All other markings, such as spots, stripes, or patterns, overlap and obscure the Feylight. These additional markings can vary in color and shape but do not intersect or interfere with the Base coat Feylight, allowing it to stand out prominently on the Daegni's base fur.

Gradients: Gradients that darken or lighten the main body color do not affect the appearance of the Base coat Feylight. The Feylight remains consistent in its color and intensity, regardless of any gradient transitions that may occur within the main body color.

Distinctiveness: The Base coat Feylight serves as a distinct marking on the Daegni, highlighting the magical energy that resides within their base fur. It adds a layer of enchantment to their appearance, enhancing their unique beauty and connection to the Feywild.

Under-lapping Markings: All other markings and coat colors under-lap the Leucistic Feylight, allowing the light fur color to overlap and showcase the beauty of the marking. This creates a captivating contrast and draws attention to the Feylight's luminescent appearance.

Gradient Expression: The Leucistic Feylight can express on light gradients within the fur color but will fade as the gradient transitions to another color. It remains predominantly focused on the lightest fur areas, adding an enchanting touch to the Daegni's overall aesthetic.

    Feywild Brindle
Feywild Brindle is a unique marking found on the Daegni that resembles the Feylight in its expression of magic. It manifests as a gradient of colors that align with the Daegni's magical essence, creating a visually captivating effect.

    Gradient Expression:
The Feywild Brindle marking showcases a gradient of colors that spans along the Daegni's body. The gradient starts with the darkest color at the spine and gradually transitions to the lightest color, typically reaching or fading before the stomach area. This gradient represents the Daegni's magical energy flowing through their being, creating a mesmerizing visual display.

    Dark, Brindle Stripes:
Feywild Brindle is always accompanied by dark, brindle stripes that overlay the gradient. These stripes add depth and texture to the overall marking, enhancing its distinctive appearance. The brindle stripes intersect and intertwine with the gradient, creating a visually striking contrast between the flowing colors and the dark striping pattern.

    Stellar Motifs:
Within the Feywild Brindle marking, scattered stars can be seen throughout all areas of the Daegni's base coat. These stars represent celestial energy and are present even in areas without the gradient. However, the stars are overlapped by all other markings, including the dark brindle stripes. They shimmer and twinkle, reminiscent of distant nebulas and galaxies, adding a touch of cosmic enchantment to the Daegni's appearance.

    Overlap with Lightest Fur Color:
Similar to the Feylight, the Feywild Brindle marking is overlapped by the lightest fur color, which is often white in Daegni. The light color merges with the gradient and brindle stripes, creating a soft transition that accentuates the contrast between the dark and light elements of the marking. This overlap with the light fur color adds an ethereal quality to the overall pattern, enhancing its mystical allure.

    Feystream Markings

The Feystream is a captivating marking found on the Daegni that shares similarities with the Feylight and Feywild Brindle. It represents the magical essence within the Daegni and manifests as a sparkling river that flows across their coat.

    Unique and Varied Patterns:
Each Daegni's Feystream pattern is unique, reflecting their individual connection to magic. The stream's color can vary widely, ranging from vibrant and shimmering hues to more subtle and serene shades. This diversity adds to the beauty and mystique of the Daegni, as no two Feystream patterns are alike.

    Distinctive "Banks" of Color:
The Feystream marking is characterized by its sparkling river-like appearance that flows along the Daegni's coat. However, unlike other markings, the Feystream never "overflows" or gets covered by any other markings. Instead, it leaves distinct "banks" of color on either side, creating a clear separation between the stream and the surrounding patterns. This ensures that the Feystream remains prominent and visible, emphasizing its importance as a representation of the Daegni's inner magic.

    Absence on Gradients:
Unlike some other markings, the Feystream does not express on gradients. It retains its sparkling river form as a separate and defined feature on the Daegni's coat. This allows the Feystream to maintain its integrity and clarity, unobscured by any color transitions or gradients that may exist in other parts of the coat.

    Three Sub-Types:
The Feystream is further classified into three distinct sub-types, each with its own unique characteristics and color variations. However, it is important to note that an individual Daegni can only possess one sub-type of Feystream. These sub-types add depth and complexity to the Feystream marking, showcasing the diverse manifestations of magic within the Daegni population.

The Feystream is a remarkable marking that visually represents the magical essence flowing through the Daegni. Its sparkling river-like appearance, unique patterns, and the absence of overlapping markings create a distinct and mesmerizing feature on the Daegni's coat. The Feystream serves as a testament to the Daegni's connection to the Feywild and their inherent magical nature, further enhancing their enchanting presence.

Microscopic hairs, invisible to the naked eye, adorn the delicate antennae and ethereal wings of the Daegni, bestowing upon them a remarkable adaptation for aquatic environments. These specialized hairs, finely textured and exquisitely arranged, grant the Daegni the ability to thrive in water and navigate its depths with astonishing efficiency.

Glistening like tiny jewels under the light, these minuscule hairs create a hydrophobic surface that repels water, preventing droplets from adhering to the delicate structures. This unique property helps keep the antennae and wings free from moisture, allowing the Daegni to maintain their agility and maneuverability even when submerged.

The arrangement of these microscopic hairs is strategic, designed to create micro-currents that channel water along specific paths. As water flows over the surface of their antennae and wings, the intricate network of hairs guides it in precise patterns, reducing drag and enhancing their hydrodynamic capabilities. This adaptation enables the Daegni to navigate through water with minimal resistance, akin to the graceful movements of a skilled swimmer.

Additionally, these specialized hairs play a vital role in sensing and interpreting their aquatic surroundings. Acting as sensitive receptors, they detect subtle changes in water currents, temperature, and chemical composition, providing the Daegni with a heightened awareness of their underwater environment. This sensory advantage allows them to navigate through turbulent waters, locate sources of nourishment, and avoid potential dangers with remarkable precision.

While imperceptible to the naked eye, the presence of these microscopic hairs is a testament to the intricate adaptations of the Daegni. Through this remarkable feature, they have gained an edge in aquatic habitats, embodying the harmonious blending of their ethereal nature and their ability to thrive in diverse realms, both above and beneath the surface of water.

Enhanced Senses: The Daegni have heightened senses, granting them exceptional perception and awareness of their surroundings. Their eyes possess an increased sensitivity to light and colors, allowing them to see subtle magical phenomena that others might miss. Their auditory system is finely tuned, enabling them to detect even the faintest of sounds. These enhanced senses aid in their navigation of the Feywild and their interactions with magical energies.

Regenerative Abilities: The Daegni possess a remarkable regenerative capacity, allowing them to heal rapidly from injuries. Their bodies have an innate connection to the magical essence of the Feywild, which accelerates their natural healing processes. This regenerative ability helps them recover swiftly from wounds and enhances their longevity.

Tough Hide: Due to the Daegnis heritage of bug and wolf, they have been blessed with a hide and skin that is truly tough to break through and slice. It would take perhaps 3 strong stabbings or thrusts in the same area to break skin. Due to this, it is harder for those who seek to gather from the dead Daegni of it's blood qualities and also makes them more formidable in melee combat if need be.

It's important to note that the internal anatomy of the Daegni is intricately linked to their magical nature, granting them exceptional abilities and a unique connection to the realm of magic. These internal features contribute to their overall physiology, enabling them to thrive and excel in their enchanted realm.

Composition: The crystal core is a formation of intricately arranged crystals that are unique to the Daegni. The exact composition and structure of the crystals can vary among individuals, but they are typically formed from a combination of enchanted minerals found within the Feywild. These minerals possess innate magical properties, which are harnessed and amplified within the crystal core.

Magical Reservoir: The crystal core acts as a reservoir for magical energy, allowing the Daegni to store and draw upon their innate powers. It serves as a conduit that collects and channels ambient magical energies from their surroundings, as well as the magical energy generated within their own bodies. The crystal core's capacity for storing magical energy is extensive, enabling the Daegni to wield considerable magical abilities.

Amplification and Focus: The crystal core amplifies and refines the magical energy flowing through the Daegni's body. As magical energy enters the crystal core, it undergoes a process of refinement and intensification, making it more potent and concentrated. This enhanced magical energy is then distributed through the Daegni's magical pathways, allowing for greater control and precision in their spell casting and manipulation of magic.

Connection to the Feywild: The crystal core establishes a profound connection between the Daegni and the Feywild. It acts as a bridge, facilitating their attunement to the natural forces and arcane energies of their realm. This connection enables the Daegni to tap into the vast wellspring of magic within the Feywild, enhancing their magical abilities and deepening their understanding of the mystical realm they call home.

Symbolic Significance: The crystal core is not only a physical manifestation of the Daegni's magical nature but also holds symbolic significance. It represents their affinity for the magical arts, their connection to the Feywild, and their unique role as conduits of enchantment. The crystal core is often regarded as a sacred and revered aspect of the Daegni's being, symbolizing their inherent power and spiritual connection.

The crystal core plays a crucial role in the Daegni's mastery of magic and their ability to navigate the intricate web of arcane energies within the Feywild. It is both a source and a catalyst for their magical abilities, enabling them to unleash and control the raw power of the mystical realm they inhabit.

    Mutations

Overgrowth: An extraordinary mutation unique to the high court Daegni, causes four gem patches to flourish into an elaborate tapestry of crystals. This enchanting transformation, however, comes at a cost as the crystals extend to the wings, inflicting unbearable pain. Sadly, many afflicted Daegni choose to end their lives, succumbing to the agony.

Dragonfly wings: A rarity among Daegni. While they usually sport delicate butterfly-like wings, some display the captivating allure of dragonfly wings. These iridescent, ethereal wings add an air of mystery, symbolizing a unique connection to the enchanting wonders of nature. The colors shift and dance, reflecting the ever-changing essence of the Feywild.

Crystal Mutation: Two variations: Opal Gem Choice or Dual-Colored Crystals. Daegni with Opal Gem Choice have mesmerizing and shifting hues like opal gemstones. Those with Dual-Colored Crystals showcase two distinct colors, creating a captivating and rare spectacle. Opal and dual colors are mutually exclusive for balance.

Giant-ism: An extraordinary mutation resulting in exaggerated sizes of various features, like horn size, gem size, or even wingspan. As if exposed to Feywild's magical essence, the Daegni affected grow exponentially, with random size differences.

Monochromatic: Manifests as a single, solid color pelt. Exceptionally uncommon, this anomaly sets an individual apart with a unique and striking appearance, devoid of any multicolored or patterned variations.

Wingless: A rare mutation, emerges from their pupae stage without wings, making them the subject of playful jests. Occasionally, they lack antennae too, though such occurrences are exceedingly uncommon. These grounded Daegni cannot fly, setting them apart from their aerial kin.
