What is a safe space?

Hello everyone!

Here For You has grown tremendously ever since it was founded in March 2015. I'm so very proud to see how this community deals with very serious life problems and shows boundless love, support and wisdom no matter the struggles anyone goes through. You all rock!

By now you've probably come across the words 'safe space' at least once, if not more often - it's a term that you typically find in places where people come together over common issues, such as mental health problems, issues concerning their orientation and identity, platonic and romantic relationship problems, and similar topics that leave people feeling very vulnerable and often times alone. Here For You is a group with a very vulnerable member base, all of whom have struggled with one issue or another and reached out for support and guidance. We're always trying to keep the group a safe space because of this.

What is a 'safe space'?
A safe space is a place where people can share their concerns, feelings and problems without having to fear that their words will be used against them to cause harm. For example, a safe space for LGBTQIA+ people is one where they can talk about their sexual orientation and gender and things related to these, without being afraid they'll get harassed or hurt by someone because they shared that. This is also why it's absolutely vital that, what is shared within a safe space, stays within that safe space!

How can you help maintain a safe space?
Since Here For You was founded, we've always done our best to restrict our forums to members of the group only to ensure the existence of our safe space. This adds a layer of protection for some of our most vulnerable members, some who deal with very serious issues and who need to be safe from prying eyes when they pour their hearts out. As our memberlist grows with new additions every week and recently reached over 200 members, I thought it would be a good time to remind all our members to do their part in keeping Here For You a safe space so that we may all benefit from our trust in the group!

Remember that a safe space only works if everybody participates in keeping it that way. We consider it prudent that what is shared on our members-only forums, stays on our members-only forums and doesn't get shared outside of this group. We urge our members to honor this trust!

I hope that moving forward, as we continue to grow and welcome new members into our space, we can keep on being that safe space for everyone and respect each other's trust about the group. Thank you all for doing your part and being amazing!
