Have you ever wanted to use a Reshiram in battle but had no idea what to run on one? Well, take a look at this and see if it'll suit your interest! This is one I've used on a regular basis and it's rarely ever let me down. Read through this if you're interested in trying one out!
COMPETITIVE OVERVIEW
Reshiram has had an interesting ride in the competitive scene, immediately becoming one of the biggest threats the Uber tier when it first debuted in Black and White to becoming a strong, but predictable threat in Sun and Moon. Its beefy HP, great Sp. Defense, godly Sp. Attack, and fantastic typing in Dragon/Fire gives it plenty of tools to wreak some havoc. Its average speed is decent, but it prevents it from outspeeding a number of threats like Rayquaza, which is able to switch and do heavy damage to Reshiram. The rise of threats Primal Kyogre, Primal Groudon, and the omnipresent Ground-Arceus severely hampers Reshiram's usefulness, but don't let this make you believe that it's unable to do anything. It partners well with Primal Groudon or any strong sun setters thanks to its Fire-typing and high Sp. Attack stat, it's capable of firing nuclear Blue Flares and it can still hit hard with a STAB Draco Meteor, and thanks to a respectable Attack stat, it can run moves like Flame Charge to patch up its middling Speed. Thanks to the arrival of Z-Crystals, Reshiram can take advantage of moves like Solar Beam and Grass Knot for a one-time, powerful Grass-type move in Bloom Doom to take on threats that would otherwise wall it, hitting Primal Kyrogre and Ground-Arceus super effectively. Moves like Roost helps boost its longevity and keeps it healthy throughout the match. Unfortunately, it's weak to all forms of entry hazard, meaning hazard removal is necessary to keep it running for longer periods of time. While Reshiram may no longer be the threat it once was back in Black and White, it would be unwise to dismiss it, as if you're unprepared, it'll run through your time like a hot knife through cold butter.
Here's a moveset that could potentially help you win battles.
Item: Grassium-Z
Nature: Modest (+Sp. Attack, -Attack)
Ability: Turboblaze
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 Sp. Atk / 252 Spe
Moves:
- Blue Flare
- Solar Beam
- Draco Meteor
- Stone Edge/Tailwind/Roost
Grassium-Z will turn Solar Beam into a devastatingly powerful Bloom Doom, allowing to OHKO support Ground-Arceus after Stealth Rock damage and it'll even bring Primal Kyrogre within KO range, which is one of the main selling points of Reshiram. However, one could opt for a Life Orb instead and replace Solar Beam with Roost if you want some longevity and if you need Reshiram to be consistently powerful. Blue Flare is a powerful move that carries a nice burn chance which is very useful against physical attackers, and under the sun, Blue Flare hits like a nuclear bomb. Draco Meteor is another powerful STAB move that'll OHKO just about anything that doesn't resist it or anything that doesn't have a high Sp. Defense. The drop in Sp. Attack is only noticeable after a few uses. Stone Edge is a nice physical alternative that allows it to hit Pokemon like Ho-Oh or Lugia super effectively, otherwise they would wall it to hell and back. Roost could be used over it to give Reshiram some longevity, especially if entry hazards are a problem. Tailwind could be used to give its teammates a nice speed boost, but is generally inferior to the other options. Reshiram is best used to hit hard and tank hits until it faints, making way for more powerful Pokemon.
