Unlike Aberrations, which often lash out blindly, Leviathans are dangerous because they are intelligent, cunning, and actively malicious. They seek out nearly any terrestrial being that may stray into their territory and tear it apart, even stalking those on shore from a distance-- not for food or out of fear, but seemingly just for the sake of destruction itself.

They have been seen working together as pack hunters and intentionally setting up ambushes where they will hide to make it seem as though an area is safe and free of danger, sometimes for hours, before rushing in on an unfortunate victim in a overwhelming swarm. They will target the weak spots on boats, intentionally capsize them, and even throw themselves up on deck to get at crew. They are not, under any circumstances, a threat to be underestimated.

Most of them are about 50 ft in length, though some get bigger. They have tooth filled, crocodile like heads, with sunken eyes that seem to catch the light and shine. Their bodies are long and flexible, ending a powerful tail, and they propel themselves along with multiple rows of flippers. They can hang in the water with unnatural stillness, and do not seem to need to eat, sleep, or surface for air. Their dark coloration also means that they blend in very well with the sea bottom.

No one is entirely sure what they are or what their purpose is. They can be killed, but it is very difficult, and they don't seem to have much in the way of a sense of fear. They will avoid death, but do not shy away from pain or injury like a normal animal would.

CAN A LEVIATHAN REACH ME ON LAND?
As long as you are not out on the sea ice, no. Please be aware that while the ice over the water in winter may be sturdy, it is still thin enough that if a Leviathan detects you over deep enough water, it will attempt to punch through the ice to get to you.
IS THERE ANY WAY TO AVOID LEVIATHANS?
Yes! Staying in the more shallow waters behind the marked areas in places like Osprey Cove will keep you safe. Additionally, Leviathans don't seem to attack aquatic based lifeforms or beings with a strong magical affinity for water, including non-native ones, but are not fooled by disguises. Certain glowstones may keep them at bay, but they are very rare and have not been extensively tested at this point.
