In pursuit of a doctoral degree in mythology and folk lore and romantic poetry, Rowdy had been accepted at a university in Florida. He moved from St. Andrews, Scotland to Florida and settled at some unsavory apartments. Making lemonade from lemons, Rowdy had met some incredible people and had made a few fast friends. It was while hanging out with these friends, Lia and Sadie, that things went very wrong.
The three of them had been hanging out in his apartment and drinking the night before. Sadie and Lia had slept in his bed and he on the couch. While they drank, Sadie expressed an interest in purchasing a foreclosed-on bar a little further south in Florida. They chatted about it casually, but no big decisions had been made that night. In the morning, while Rowdy and Sadie sat in the living room having coffee, Lia, unbeknownst to Rowdy or Sadie, took it upon herself to try and make them breakfast. Rowdy had made fajitas the night before and when he had packed them away, he had wrapped the left-over fajita meat in foil. Lia, having found the foil wrapped meat, did not realize she needed to remove the foil from the meat before putting it in the microwave. With the microwave now going, Lia joined Rowdy and Sadie in the living room and started talking along with them. Four minutes after the microwave had been started, there was a loud BOOM as the microwave exploded; bits of burning shrapnel went flying all over the kitchen.
When Rowdy moved into this apartment it had been absolutely disgusting and very neglected. Needless to say, chemicals had been used to scrub this apartment and the residue from the avid cleaning may have acted as an accelerant when the burning bits hit the floor. Flames spread fast through the entire kitchen. The BOOM had startled all three of them to the point that coffee cups had been dropped, and Lia had darted across the living room and was standing by the door screaming. Rowdy and Sadie raced into the kitchen and stood baffled at what possibly could have happened. They saw the blackened microwave whose door had been blown open and came to the conclusion something inside of the microwave had been the catalyst. The problem was, they couldn't get close enough to confirm exactly what it was. All they could see was that the fire had started with the microwave and was now all over the kitchen. Rowdy and Sadie determined there was no stopping these flames and had to get themselves out...now.
With no working smoke detectors in the apartments there was no warning for other people in the apartments other than just screaming their heads off, which Lia was already doing. Rowdy pushed Lia out of the front door so her screams would hopefully get a few people's attention and bring them out of their apartments. Sadie called 9-1-1 to report the fire, while Rowdy grabbed as much as he could stuff into his arms from his closet. By the time Rowdy emerged from the bedroom, the fire department and the police were on the way to the apartments. When Lia heard about the police coming flew into a panic and begged them to leave now. Rowdy knew something was up and looked to Sadie for help on what to do. In a moment of desperation, Rowdy scooped Lia into his arm and threw her over his shoulder and the pair ran down the stairs of the apartments and towards Sadie's SUV. It wasn't until they had driven away from the complex that Lia finally calmed down enough to stop screaming. Rowdy looked to Sadie and the decision was made to head south to the bar she wanted to buy.
They were now living in the Sunset Beach Condos, which were just as bad as the apartments they had fled from, but in a completely different town. Rowdy was still able to attend classes and had gotten a job as a stripper at Roosters, Lia was making messes at the 59 Diner, and Sadie had bought her bar and was just about done with the remodel. So far, life in this new hell hole was going well.
