Somewhat short-tempered, but usually only when provoked. Confusing or patronizing him are quick ways to provoke him. Otherwise friendly and always willing to lend a helping hand when he can.
Likes: His Pokémon, swimming, being outdoors, a certain pink-haired girl, wakeboarding, Dragon types, Water types, helping people, Pokédolls (but he'll never own up to it), certain cutesy Pokémon.
Dislikes: People underestimating him, being teased, Luvdisc, creeps who keep calling his Pokégear, feeling useless, trainers who ditch their Pokémon, Pokémon contests, making Poffins, trainers who only go by type advantages, criminal groups, reading things that are difficult for him, being patronized or confused.

As mentioned above, he's lacking in formal education and has a hard time with academic-related subjects. He's okay at basic math and reading and is very interested in history (especially that regarding his region's legendary Pokemon, and legends in general), but his reading comprehension and things of that nature could definitely use a lot of work. Mostly he relies on oral tradition and audio transcriptions of things that interest him. (Maybe audiobooks/radio stations/podcasts on his Pokegear? That could work.)
He's pretty athletic and tries to incorporate his Pokemon into his sports. He favors wakeboarding, and rather than use a boat to pull him, he hitches the rig up to his Gyarados and lets her do the work.
Would like to learn to surf one day. As in without use of an HM on one of his Pokemon.
He's also a pretty good cook, when he can afford the ingredients to do so and actually feels like it.
Despite his sometimes grumpy exterior, he loves his Pokemon more than anything and has been known to dote on them, but he swears up and down that he doesn't spoil them.
Is thoroughly confused about girls in general, let alone how he ended up traveling with two of them. He's completely baffled by the fact he happens to like one of them very much, and is utterly clueless the other is harboring a secret crush on him.
His cowlick is visually emotive. This means that I draw it expressing different things, but his hair doesn't -literally- have a mind of its own.
He is, ironically enough, highly allergic to seafood. Because of this, he's gotten to be very wary whenever the group stops to eat in a coastal area, just in case of possible cross-contamination.
He's also allergic to cat/cat-like Pokemon. Lucky for him, his girlfriend happens to have a Delcatty, an Espeon, and probably others.

Bayless (played anonymously) A Pokemon breeder from whom Blake received his shiny Flygon, Callisto. Blake thinks he's a nice enough guy, even if he doesn't share his enthusiasm for breeding Pokemon and babies in general. 
Sydni (played by Amity) Blake met Sydni at the Goldenrod Department Store, after accidentally finding her escapee Vulpix. After finding out she was new to the region, Blake offered to show her around Goldenrod, and eventually Sydni joined the rest of the group on their journey. Blake is seemingly utterly oblivious to her crush on him. Family

Background

Blake was born in Blackthorn City, Johto, and as such had a somewhat strict upbringing. His father was a famed Dragontamer and his mother a Coordinator who focuses on Dragon Pokémon, Blake longed for the day when he could finally get his first Pokémon and leave, until finally his parents agreed. They let him into the Dragon's Den to wait for his choice.
Little did Blake know his 'choice' was going to be one out of a group of Magikarp saved specifically for Trainers starting out from Blackthorn. His father said if he could evolve it, then he was free to start his journey. It was a tough road but it eventually paid off and she finally evolved into a formidable Gyarados, who he aptly named Shredder. His parents supplied him with some basic equipment and sent him on his way. Knowing that he would need more than just a feisty Gyarados to get very far, Blake headed off into the vast Johto region to add to his team.
He eventually worked his way through a few towns until stopping in Goldenrod City for a while because he was getting a little tired of living on the road. That, and it gave him an opportunity to add to his team and get a decent amount of training done. He knew the areas around Goldenrod had a wide variety of wild Pokemon so he set off to go catch some! This'd be where he met his Pidgey and male Nidoran, Careen and Javelin, respectively. A few months of rigorous training later, he decided to do some sight-seeing in the parts of the region he hadn't seen yet, and on the shore of Olivine City is where history was made.
When he got there he had no plans other than to see the city and maybe hit the beach and catch some waves. It was on his way to the shore that he noticed a small blueish figure near the water, frantically pacing back and forth and crying out over the waves. It was a Totodile, Blake realized upon getting closer. Though he couldn't quite figure out why it was here of all places, as far as he knew there weren't really a lot of wild Pokemon living on the shore, what with its heavy human traffic and all. He decided to mind his own business and do what he'd come to the beach to do, enjoy it, but he couldn't help keeping a watchful eye on the poor thing until finally, guilt eating away at him, he hopped off his Gyarados and went to see how he could help. Figuring it was probably hungry, Blake rummaged through his bag to see what sort of edibles he had on him. It took a bit of coaxing but eventually the little Totodile cautiously worked his way over to the offered food, quickly snatching it out of Blake's hand and scurrying away a few feet.
Blake sat by and watched for a little while longer until he decided it was time to head back. There was just one small problem: namely, a small Totodile intent on following him. He tried shooing it away, and a few times it even worked, until eventually the Totodile stuck to tagging along behind him, even scooting closer when Blake tried to shoo it again. By now the odd pair had attracted some attention from the other beachgoers, and Blake realized he would have to do something and fast, for the sake of his own self-consciousness as well as the little guy. He tossed a pokeball soon after, luckily Totodile showed no signs of trying to escape and made for a quick and easy capture. Blake wasn't entirely cozy with this fact, oddly enough, and let him back out of the pokeball immediately after. This way, he figured, if things suddenly looked like trouble he could easily return him safely to his ball.
