Continuity Info

  • Location

Challiston Cross (Cross for short) was established outside of Challiston, the capital of Challis county, in Kasuria.

    mapdg.jpg

The red circle on the map is not, of course, the true size of Cross (though sprawled out, it's actually rather small, located almost exactly between Challiston and Mount Lonestar) -- this simply indicates the general area where RP will take place. Of course, all canon locations are recognized in this continuity, so your character could just as easily take a trip to Malgrave, Zaydore, or the Olde World. It's just not covered by our dream.

  • Economy

Coins: Coinage consists of coppers, silvers and gold suns.

    10 coppers = 1 silver ("silvabit")
    20 silvers = 1 gold ("sun")

  • Technology

Although The Dragonlands are not the same as the Real World, and of course do not share an identical history, we will use historical references for the levels of technology just to make things easier.

Kasurian technology is at the Medieval level with a "fantasy feel" to it.
Outside of siege and warships, the most advanced development in weaponry is the crossbow. Armors range from simple bird leathers all the way to chain and plate armor.
Buildings are made of wood and stone primarily, with cottages and cell-like huts for the poor made from clay and straw. Larger towns and castles are fortified by walls, gates, and sometimes citadels.
Other technologies furres have developed include: soap, spectacles, the hourglass, clocks, the compass, the spinning wheel, tidal and vertical windmills, and a variety of musical instruments.

In Drakoria, the technology level is similar to Kasuria's, although unenslaved furres retain a tribal culture. The only real difference is that although some parts could even be considered Bronze Age, all metal turns to dust in Drakoria, and thus their armament reflects this.

Technology is slightly more advanced in the Olde World, in some areas even reaching a Renaissance level, however very little of it would reach Kasuria at this time. Also, although not a technology per se, no magic (not even potions) exist or work in these lands.

  • Holidays

Cross tends to find any excuse it can to liven things up, whether it's in honor of a Prime or a local event in their history. Some holidays may correspond to those of hyoomuns, but they are not on the exact RL dates -- we know our players may wish to celebrate those in The Real World. :)

    December 31st to January 1st ~ New Year's Celebrations
A joyous celebration of the upcoming year, while fondly toasting the year past. Commonly celebrated in the local tavern and in bed the next day. Tales of excessive drinking, gambling, other lewd acts, and even cross dressing are told for weeks after.

    1st Saturday in February ~ Chim's Day

Furres gather their savings and head to the local tavern to drink and gamble it all away with friends and neighbors, hoping that Chim, the Lord of Luck, will send fortune their way. The Pick and other taverns generally offer a special drink for the occasion, and often sport and sparring tournaments are set up to take bets.

March 24th ~ Invasion Remebrance Day
A solemn day in Challiston Cross and the surrounding area, marking the remembrance of the Wyrmme skirmish invasion in the Spring of 1163, and those lives lost.

1st week of April ~ Jujinka's Spring Festival
Furres welcome warmer temperatures and budding flowers with this annual celebration. Traditionally, the week long festival begins with a day of light-hearted pranks and fun on friends and relatives, commonly referred to as 'Fool's Day'. The rest of the week is filled with dances and tournaments. Fortune-tellers, kissing booths and matchmakers are also very popular during this festival, with the belief that the Prime of Love might bless a few lucky loners this week.

1st Saturday in May ~ May Day
Craftsfurres and artists from near and far gather in Cross for the annual May Day celebration, a widely known art festival in Challis County. A variety of Primes are honored at this time, particularly Patrilius, Danival, and Syndira.

1st night of 8th full moon (August) ~ Rameen
A fond tribute to the end of Summer and the eminent arrival of Autumn. Any furres that keep pets will frequently show them off during this festival, and for once you might find a live kiwi or two being sold at the market. Seafood is common fare, in dedication to Jemmion, the Ruler of the Tides.

    September 21st ~ The King's Garrison Day
A day to honor the soldiers both at home and at war. Military of any rank don dress attire in respect of their peers.

    November 1st-2nd ~ Mischief Night
A full day and night of mischief, trickery, and mystery. Townsfurres don masks and costumes for a midnight party, while shop owners close their doors in fear of pranks and harm. Darkness lingers through all hours of the day, and magic is strong in the air.

3rd full week in November ~ Ahroth's Harvest Festival
Furres gather together to celebrate the end of the harvest season with feasting and bonfires each night. Market stalls practically overflow with the freshest grains, fruit and vegetables from the area.

3rd full week in December ~ Danival's Winter Festival
    Last night (Saturday) ~ Candlemas
The Winter Festival is a time for family celebrations both indoors and out in the snow. Music fills this season as bards and everyday carollers alike wander the streets and fill the tavern's stage. On the final night, called Candlemas, furres customarily give gifts to those they're closest to and feast by a warm fire.
