Rules

  • 1. The most important thing to remember during your stay at NSC is to respect the community and all of its players. This carries into all areas, from conversing OOC to casual RP in the tavern. Please take into consideration during any interaction the thoughts and opinions of the other members. Agreeing to disagree in OOC debates isn't as difficult as it sounds, nor is choosing not to pick a fight with someone who doesn't want their character involved in a random brawl. Always put a respectful foot forward in your encounters and your time here will be far more enjoyable.

    2. OOC chatter should be kept out of the IC sections in most cases. An exception to this rule is when the player has a question that cannot be asked or hasn't been answered privately that concerns the role-play for that thread. OOC used in IC sections should always be surrounded by double ((parentheses)).

    3. In IC posts, physical action and private thoughts should be set in some way apart from spoken dialogue either through bold, italics, underlining or symbols such as -, *, and ~.

    4. Staff members know what they're talking about, so when they say something is law- it is. We are not, however, an unreasonable, unyielding force, hell-bent on the domination of our members. If you have an issue that you don't feel the staff understands or has reacted appropriately to, you have every right to say so politely through PMs. That said, their final decision is typically a compromise for the best interest of everyone.
    • T1 Rules of Free-Form Battle
From site to site the rules of engagement of a role-playing battle change so drastically that it has fallen to each community to write their own. NSC, like all the others, has their very own version of the Turn Based fighting style used in both forum and chat RP settings.

    1. The most important part of any fight is having willing participants. All those about to enter battle should be doing so because they choose to, not because someone else decided they would be. Agreeing ahead of time who will be involved and who will be steering clear of the chaos is the best way to avoid confusion and ugly situations.

    2. Turn based fighting goes as follows:
    - The first to post an attack should include details on how, where, with what and how fast they are striking. Autoing is not allowed except in specific, pre-planned instances (see FAQ). The more description put into the move, even if melee, the better.

*The cloaked figure creeps silently up behind his intended target before deftly thrusting the six-inch, obsidian dagger clutched in his right hand at the valley between the his opponents shoulder blades.*

    - The reply to aforementioned assault will contain two parts. An adequate dodge or a taking of the intended strike should come first. Both will benefit from description and will need to be realistic given the character's fighting skills, innate abilities and position at the time. The second part will consist of the counterattack or retreat.

~Aware suddenly of movement behind her, she drops heavily onto her left knee allowing the well aimed dagger to pass safely over her head as she leans forward to brace both hands against the floor. Balancing in this position, her right leg extends up and backwards in a sharp kick aimed at either side of her attacker's abdomen.~

    - The fight will continue like this until one side has accepted defeat, died or retreated. In a battle of any length, both/all players should have taken reasonable hits and damage for those hits.

    3. God-modding, otherwise known as playing a character that takes no damage, has god like powers, is immortal and is generally more suited for Mount Olympus than the Dancing Devil Inn, is not allowed. All characters must be able to die and are to have weaknesses along with their strengths.

    4. Magic of any kind requires the proper preparation to be considered valid. Not only does the spell need to be within the range of your characters abilities, it also must be described with the appropriate steps towards its completion detailed along the way. The larger the spell, the longer the preparation time needed. Complex spells should never be prepped and finished in one post but should be built up over the course of several. Like melee attacks, magical attacks are subject to the same rules against god-modding and autoing and can be dodged by a clever opponent as well. [/b]
    • The No Negativity Clause
NSC has several minor rules, the most important rule that everyone MUST respect and is essential to all NSCns is the No Negativity Clause. To become a resident here, you must understand and abide this rule at all times.

NSC is a negativity free Zone. No Negativity of any kind will be tolerated and will be removed immediately.

To clear up any confusion, the definition of Negativity in NSC is regarded as:
Negativity is any form of negative energy directed at someone else or at NSC in general. Insults, name calling, harsh criticisms etc, are not accepted at NSC.

If something causes you to become upset or concerned, you are asked to please handle the matter in private, via our private message system. If this proves impossible for what ever reason, you are then asked to contact an Admin who will do their best to help. Under NO circumstances is this matter to pollute the message board as it is for Rping and related OOC only.

If for some reason, someone DOES post something that is deemed negative on the boards, the post may be deleted at the discretion of the admin, though in most cases the person responsible is asked to edit their post. If after repeated attempts by the admin to modify or delete this post, only to have the negativity remain, the admin may ask for the person responsible to leave NSC if they believe the person is a negative influence on NSC and the people that play here. In severe cases, permanent bans may occur.
