Upon reaching their destination, brutus quickly slid to a stop and then immediately flopped over onto his back for treats and belly rubs. He had done good right?

A couple minutes later Daxton and Khamir caught up with Hobbes and the lizard, brushing some of the leaves and debris off of his suit. He'd need to get some dry-cleaning done after this.

"You alright Hobbes?"

Hobbes had a large smile on their face, if still catching their breath. Of course, they looked a state: clothes torn and muddy, potentially an entire nest of creatures in their hair, and a couple of cuts. Water was still dripping off of them, flattening their floof somewhat.

"I'm great! Didn't realize Brutus could go so fast." They shook their hair out some, and reached out to offer Brutus a good rock before belly rubs.

"That's just because you don't have anything important Brutus likes to take," Khamir said, knowing /exactly/ how fast Brutus could go. It seemed like the lizard always became 100% faster when he had Khamir's arm. "But more importantly, if there was anything here, I think you scared it off."

The clearing was quiet, and mostly still. There were still critters about, but not anything that remotely looked capable of carving a statue. Although there was still the feeling of being watched, and bushes that rustled without wind. It was subtle, but there.
*brutus happily accepted the rock and rubs, yes this way good. He had a good run AND got rewarded for it. Yes, good day*

*Daxton scanned his surroundings carefully, activating the thermal filters on his shades to see what he could pick up*

"Hobbes, try taking the carving out of your pocket, hold it up a bit....I have a feeling we arn't alone...and it might get us a response. Just be ready guys...encase it's not quite the response we want"

*Daxton's hands carefully lowered to his sides, in the familiar position he always took when he was getting ready to drop his pistols from the hidden compartments in his sleeves if something went wrong*
With the thermal filters, things looked a lot different.

Already the jungle was filled with all manner of living organisms, a lot of them camouflaged. A group of flowers that were birds, two chameleons, a group of berries that turned out to be a lure, frog just buried enough to be out of sight, a tree that was weirdly hot in its core.

But much less hot were the long limbed, relatively cool creatures that were surrounding them. They were... actually a part of the foliage, upon closer observation. At least one of them had a tail in plain sight, even if it didn't look like a tail with leaves sprouting out of it the way it was.

Their posture looked more curious than hostile, and there looked to be at least twenty of them. One of which was sneaking its nose out towards Hobbes and Brutus, while another was attempting to restrain it.

Khamir nodded. Hobbes, with one hand still giving Brutus the belly rubs, got out the figurine.

Which, was enough for the brave one that was closest. A scaled hand reached out to also try giving Brutus the belly rubs.

Hobbes let it, pulling his hands back and looking into the foliage it was hiding in. "Hopefully it isn't poisonous."
