"worth as about a good a shot as anything I can think of, very well. If we are going after unknowns tho...I might want a bit of backup. Unless you have any objections, I might invite along Khamir"

"I can't really argue with that." Since Khamir's help with making sure Swaije and Nietve got to them safely, Hobbes had been a lot more amiable to his presence. The two would bicker, but Hobbes was no longer outright hostile to him. It was definitely progress. "Do you think he would object to becoming a plant person?" she asked playfully.
"If it gets him a couple days of sick leave away from the paperwork they have us doing right now....hell I think he'd give his other arm"

*Dialing up Khamir, he spoke softly into the phone* "Khamir, it's daxton. We got a new lead on project Native. Hobes and I are going to follow up and I'd like your back up. Get an attachment of the base guards to watch my ship while we are gone, incase Y'vicke's men try anything while we are away, then meet us at the southern training field"
"Yes sir. I'll be there shortly."

While Daxton was on the phone, Hobbes started looking around for Brutus. She had a few good rocks in her sylladex still; hopefully they would be a good enough bribe.
*As daxton spoke, Brutus was still laying by the pond. Napping at that exact moment, sprawled out on his back. The stone she had given him earlier, on the sand besides him, with the lizards large tail curled around it*
"Bruuuuutus," Hobbes called to him. "Brutus, wake up. You wanna go on a walk?"
*Brutus made a rasping noise and started wiggling his feet as if he were walking, despite being currently on his back and that not really getting him anywhere*
"C'mon I want you to show me where you found that rock you gave me earlier," Hobbes said, coming over and crouching next to him. He was a good scaly dog; Hobbes smiled at his silliness.
*Upon closer inspection the lizard was still obviously sleeping, the mention of the word "walk" having invaded his dreams, as his legs lazily scooped the air*
"Brutus you perfect animal," Hobbes said, and kinda shuffled kinda rubbed his belly.
*After a few moments, Brutus' odd snoring noises, turned into the raspy noise of his usual panting. The lizard slowly flopped over and started rolling around on Hobbe's shoes. Eager for the playtime she had obviously invited with these choice belly rubs*
"You wanna go on a walk, Brutus?"
The lizards tongue lolled out over hobbes' boot covering it in slober, but at the same time he also exposed his neck for the leash.
Hobbes put on his leash before standing up, not even noticing the boot slobber. "Alright Brutus, you wanna show me where you got this rock?" she asked, showing him the carving.
*Brutus took a moment to flicker his lizard tongue at the carving a few times, before recognition seemed to spark once more behind his tiny tiny reptilian mind. The like a shot out of a cannon, he bolts off into the woods, likely dragging hobbes with him*

*Daxton watches this with a sigh, hoping khamir would arrive soon before the lizard and his matesprit left without them*
Hobbes was not trying to resist, and got nearly yanked off their feet before disappearing into the jungle with Brutus. There they go.

Khamir, seeing this as he was pulling up to the ship, sighed heavily before getting out. He jogged over to Daxton. "I suppose Brutus is walking Hobbes today."
"It would seem so, unfortunately for us however.....we need to follow"

*Daxton offered an almost somewhat apologetic half smile to his moirail for roping him into this, and then took off into the forest after Hobbes and the Large Lizard. This was why hobbes needed to let him put a tracker on them*
It wouldn't have been all /that/ necessary; there was a small path of destruction tracing their steps. Hobbes, at least, was having no regard for the surrounding plant life.

Khamir wasn't as fast as Daxton, but he was fast enough to keep up. With all the racket going on, all the wildlife scattered. So close to the clearing where Daxton had parked his ship, it was rare creatures big enough to take investigate came close.

Very quickly though, the jungle became much more dense. Little moonlight trickled through the canopy, mottling the foliage covered floor. The regular night sounds of the jungle were quieted at their approach. It was a little quieter than most of their treks, but normally their treks didn't involve Hobbes and Brutus taking off like they were now.
*Brutus took Hobbes on an ADVENTURE. Diving through ponds, streams, foliage, over. and once through a rock it looked like he had bitten a small tunnel through before*

*Daxton and Khamir for the most part had the luxury of simply going around most of these obstacles. Hobbes however was not so lucky*
Getting a face full of tree wasn't Hobbes' favorite thing, but it was too late to stop now. A couple of them got knocked over the course of this journey.

At this point, the moonlight was all but blotted out by the heavy canopy above. The shadows were dark and long, and far from still. Foliage rustled without wind, and the sound of something big and heavy moving was audible. Creatures flitted around, a lot of insects, but also small mammals hard to identify.

A group of something that looked like feathered raccoons were startled in the wake of the Hobbes and Brutus bulldozer, feathers fluffing up to make them look easily double their size. Glowing eyespots appeared, and watched as the trolls went by.

And then the wildlife seemed to disappear. The place Brutus had gotten the rock was a clearing, ringed with tall berry bushes. They were easily as tall as Daxton, and in some places, taller. Birds called from the canopy, but there were none in sight.
