    A Brief History
There was once a time when all vulnix were united. Sharing the lands and skies of their homeland, an island off the coast of Drakoria known as Syn’lai, fruitful and prosperous, living in peace. There were secluded and rarely bothered, perhaps others not even knowing of their existence there.

There were those who grew something of a wanderlust, wanting to follow the herds for food, not wanting to be tied down to the normal constraints. This group broke off from the rest first and were to be known as the Kel’ai. The retained their wings through their traveling nature, using them to get to the land of Kasuria, wandering the lands since, their taste for adventure and love of life never sated.

The rest who stayed upon the island grew to have inner conflicts of their own. There were those who were devout to the study and command of magics while there were those to honing their abilities in combat, wanting to create an army. Those who were peaceful in their craft argued there was no need for such a thing, while the others wanted to branch out, conquering those who might challenge them. Civil war broke out, the two groups dividing and becoming two separate tribes, the Kun'ei and Mu’nai. The Kun'ei used their magic to curse the Mu’nai with not infertility, but a lack of female births among them, hoping to dwindle them into extinction overtime. With that, the Mu’nai were cast out and only had one place to go, the lands of Drakoria.

Upon Drakoria, the Mu’nai only became more power hungry and vicious. They learned of slavery and dark magic, trying to reverse the curse that had been set upon them. Instead of breaking the spell, however, they simply would travel back to Syn’lai, capturing Ku’nei females during mating season. They sent scouts to Kasuria to do the same with Kel’ai females. This became their cycle of reproduction.

The Kun'ei continued to live in a tenuous peace, having to take of spear and shield against those who may now invade their lands. The Kel’ai lived in similar peace, merely just traveling about in their times in Kasuria, traveling back to the homeland of Vulnix every so often to establish peace customs and share the fruits of the world.

Recent times, however, spelled further demise for the peaceful tribes of the Vulnix. Assassins of unknown origin invaded into Syn’lai, killing the Kun'ei tribe leader and capturing his daughter to be sold into slavery. A union was meant for her and the leader of the Kel’ai tribes. Rumors have it that the Mu’nai are behind this, but there is nothing to confirm or deny it.

    PAST
The kel'ai craved freedom. They were a group of vulnixes that tended to retain their wings, and had little affinity for magic. Instead, they were often hunters and warriors, various members of the populace that, for whatever reason or another, did not properly fit. They remained when the kun'ei left for the magic-heavy mountains of Syn'lai, instead remaining on the plains. While there are no official territory claims, it is well established that the flat grasslands, forests, and wide open sky are all kel'ai territory.

Those who remained fell under the protect of five vulnix that stepped forward to become tribal leaders. Each one created a caravan, a family, and a piece of the island in which they "ruled". While it was not uncommon for caravans to cross each other, each leader had a specific set of rules to adhere to, and they were known through the lands. Despite these differences, there was one common elements through each caravan: the strongest led. A caravan was only as strong as its strongest warrior, and that individual makes the decisions.

Once a year, the caravans meet in the center of Syn'lai, the place where their ancestors divided into the two known factions today, and select a ruler. There is no gender requirement, though there has only ever been one Queen. This individual does not have to be one of the five leaders, though often time comes from this pool, seeing as they are often the strongest leaders.
    PRESENT
The kel'ai had been the only members of the vulnix species to hardly change from their past to their present. Their leaders have come and gone, and yet they remain.

Their language has changed ever so slightly to the point of what some may call an accent. This accent carries through on their common. Out of all the tribes, they are the ones that are most likely to not know the common tongue. Only a few of those with wings select the merchant roll, taking goods created by their caravan and selling them, with permission from their leaders, to the people of Kasuria. They do not travel to Draconia.

Recently, there has been little travel among st the kel'ai. The return of the mun'ai has been tough on them. Since they are the ones in the most open territory, the raids by the mun'ai have claimed many more kel'ai than their kun'ei counterparts. Instead of travelling vast distances, the caravans tend to remain within a day's flight of each other.

War has spread amongst them, to combat the mun'ai. From this war has arisen a King for them all, the first to ever be selected and not be a leader of a caravan. He recognized their strength lies with their species, and they could no fight this war alone. They were not the only ones suffering, and therefore should not be the only ones fighting. He came to an agreement with the King of the kun'ei: He would marry his eldest daughter, reuniting the vulnix people in their fight against their common enemy. The kel'ai continued to fight back the mun'ai under his rule, chasing them towards the shores of Draconia and becoming increasingly successful. However, before the current King could marry the Princess of the kun'ei, his people were ambushed at night by the new ruler of the mun'ai.

  • Syn'lai

    TaDPlsa.jpg

Syn'lai is the home island for the vulnix, and has been for centuries. It rests off the coasts of Drakkoria, and would normally be a prime spot for the Drakkorian people to raid, save for the fact it is protected by a series of strong currents and reefs. These natural defenses make it nearly impossible for sea based vessels to do anything but crash, and there is an infamous ship's graveyard far off the coast of Syn'lai.
