At the Merry Market festival today in Winterhold an upset occurred. A frost giant thundered into town and kidnapped a single human woman. At first I thought it was an illusion as I noticed a similar looking woman run away from the scene, further investigation showed the giant was in fact real.

All the clear signs of foul play where here. After the battle an unidentified man began rousing the crowd looking for donations for a paladin that ran into town. I could tell immediately that this was no man of the cloth or any paladin for that matter. The false paladin went to pursue the lady after getting the gold he desired.

We did not yet pursue and instead decided to investigate in Winterhold itself what was going on. The father tasked us with finding the girl - I was assisted by a group of adventurers - and we set about the task. Still suspecting the girl to be in on it I began questioning Tommen the Miller's Son. Both the father and Tommen vouched for the missing girl's virtue but the latter spoke about a similar looking woman standing nearby.

Following through on this new lead my druid companion soon found the tracks we sought and we moved to pursue. Darkness had fallen but Tyr's light showed us the way and in his light we found those who thought to escape His justice. We came upon a camp with the unidentified man mentioned earlier, a woman who resembled the kidnapped victim and the false paladin.

Before I could move in for arrestation the lawbreakers began firing upon us. In the resulting melee 1 was slain, the false paladin, and the other two arrested. We questioned the suspects who revealed to us that they had a fourth and fifth accomplice, a wizard and a frost giant respectively. As we considered the woman to be in great danger we made a short camp and then went to pursue. The woman prisoner escaped during our rest and we made the other prisoner return naked to the village, a genius plan deviced by one of the adventurers as this would force this man to bring himself into lawful custody. The man never arrived in Winterhold although his body was also not found, the man is currently wanted along with his other accomplices.

It was a few months ago when I first got the offer, the pling of a mail as I relaxed on a small terras and drank in the beauty of Lilycove City. The offer seemed dull and the mystery unintriguing. A few digging machines going lost in the booking? Hardly seemed worthy of a detective, but at the time I had little choice in the matter, regular jobs were the only way my name would become known and true mysteries could come my way.

The journey was short and not altogether unpleasant, the ship had a nice baquet hall and the taste of true Hoenn cuisine dulled my senses and shortened the lengthy trip to Carncrag. I saw it that evening, the bustling lights of the industrial district on one side and next to it, like a pond under a mountain an expanded village, that is what it clearly was and this only proved more obvious when the ship landed.

The meeting with my client was brief, he had compiled a fine dossier with all the information I needed and thus I set about the paperwork, not the most exciting task and certainly glanced over in the many movies and novels I used to adore, but necessary all the same.

It was then when the full potential of the mystery came to me, what I'd first considered nothing more than a misfiling of records seemed to be something a bit more complicated, these digging machines truly had disappeared and, something my client must not have realised, the order confirmation had a date that was much later than these machines should, logically, have been needed for the rebuilding of Carncrag at all. To say that I was intrigued was an understatement and thus I continued my investigation.

Questioning the dockworkers led only to a dead lead, the cries of the wingull above were as useful as anything those men could tell me. It seemed the machines had just disappeared, whisked away by some mysterious hand. Either there was more going on here, or the case had a much simpler answer, perhaps an insurance scam, but who could benefit from this but my client? It made little sense, as my client had nothing to gain from such an act, but it seemed to be the most logical sollution available, and that was saying something.

I was about to give up that following morning when walking over the beach I noticed something, a boat belonging to the ranger union moored at the docks. Quickly I tracked down the captain and found her in a nearby café. After being the gentleman my parents raised and giving her a coffee she told me she had just brought in a rookie ranger by the name of Allan Gellins, rookie he had to be for the name rang not a single bell. Apparently something strange had been happening around the mountains lately and the trace of a trap had been happened upon by some hikers. The woman said she didn't think it was something major, perhaps a poacher or a pokémon hunter, an easy task for a fresh ranger.

It sounded very simple of course, but something in my gut told me there was more to this and this feeling was shared by Blackjack I believe. Trying to track this rookie down would have had no use, he probably knew even less than the woman I had spoken so I continued my search as I phoned the research center and arranged a little meeting during noon the next day. Surely they had to know more about these happenings in the mountains and even if it had nothing to do with these missing machines which, by all honesty sounded likely, I was sure this 'ranger' wouldn't come up with the idea.
