The Spirit Parade

Posted by Arnold Delton (played anonymously) October 1st 2014, 12:46pm
Several signs have gone up around the Town:

Father Delton would like to remind everyone that the Spirits Parade will be going on between the 26th and 31st of the month.

Please repress any unfriendly reactions to our visitors during this time, as they are all friendly and come in peace. Screaming and attacking may provoke these ancestor spirits.

Sedatives will be provided for those who think they cannot handle the recently departed (some of them not so recently, but please refrain from pointing this out, they may be sensitive).

ps The ghost referred to as Aunt Marjorie should be accommodated in any way possible. We don't want a repeat of last year's unpleasantness.

A rather large 'sea serpent' can be found guarding the river, springing out and roaring at the unwary on the road. His deep belly laugh following anyone spooked by his antics, he discusses the best spots to go fishing, and the giant monster of a fish he caught when he was alive. His name is Francis.

Aunt Marjorie stands beside the temple, her hair a wild tangle of ebony locks, and her dress a sinister black that curls into shadowy tendrils at her feet. She is not at all interested in the nonsense that her fellows are getting up to, and gruffly interrogates anyone who comes by about the world's goings on. If displeased with answers, or feeling teased by her conversation partner, the ghost steals their voice for a half hour interval.

The Spirit Parade has arrived in Bitter Springs and will be present until the 31st. Several haunts from the village's past can be found lingering in different places around the town, and most are welcoming of conversation.

In Sir Swift's field a flaming stallion named Ed speaks with a heavy cockney accent and keeps warm with a spiritual fire not felt in the mundane realm. He was a carter in life, and now manifests as a chatty demon horse.

Standing beside Ed is a woman named Felicity dressed as a grim reaper, who keeps mostly to herself, though occasionally can be heard humming a lullaby. She generally seems to be in agreement with whatever Ed says.

Near the fountain, a very faded spirit swirls around the flowing water, hard to see and harder still to hear. A watery 'booooOOOoooo' can be heard occasionally coming from the being, though it does not seem capable of further speech.

A black coyote sits at the very edge of town, creeping around behind the stump of an ancient tree. When prompted into speech, the male offers out riddles, with a ghostly pecan rewarded for correct answers. He laments that his pecan tree has been cut down by time.

A demonic looking doll wanders about the cemetery, offering no name and asking for none. She giggles as she watches people pass from behind the gravestones, and disappears if approached.

A 'wicked' witch named Grace can be found at the back of the cemetery, cackling a friendly cackle if approached, and offering out the recipe for her famous apple pie to those who impress her with their own cooking efforts.
