I started my first day with my swatch. It's my first sweater so I really didn't want to chance the size being totally off. Turns out I did a good thing, because my gauge is waaaay off.

The pattern needs 15 stitches per 4". I ended up getting 12 stitches per 4". I didn't want to go a needle size down due to the fabric's drape becoming too stiff, so after asking around I figured out how to alter the pattern to match my gauge.

Basically you divide your gauge by the pattern's gauge. So... 12/15=0.8
Then you take that number and multiply it with the number of stitches you need to cast on. In this case, my sweater size needs 80 stitches cast on, so... 0.8*80=64

So I needed to cast on 64 stitches for the same size sweater! Yay! I can adjust the rest of the pattern with the same formula or just plain counting with that as my base. Whew.

I got started and I'm now.. I don't know how many rows in, but slowly knitting up a fair chunk!

If I finish this sweater within a week I'll need another project for this challenge, hah.
I haven't started yet, but since I found out the plot bunnies my NaNoWriMo region gives to people who are new to writing are just enough that I need to make one a day (or so) to make 50k stitches. THey knit up pretty quick (cast on 30, knit 60 rows) I think I can do it. This is my goal. I'll make it ALL about NaNoWriMo, even for my knitting. I'll update you later with the progress of the first skin!
