Events » Festival of Mittonbur

October 17th 2018, 4:00pm - October 31st 2018, 9:30pm
Every year during Vizicce's month of Mittiv, the last two weeks of our October, the festival of Mittonbur (Mit-ton-bur) is held. While still popular amongst the rest of the galaxy especially on the last day of the festival, Vizicce's festivities are the largest, grandest, and most tourist-attracting.

According to Viziccien lore, during this particular month, monsters invade the cities and towns of their planet. Mittonbur is held so that they will be confused and deceived into thinking they haven't actually entered the Viziccien cities, and therefore, the townships and citizens will be safe from attack by these fell creatures.

It is unknown to foreigners whether these monsters are actually real or not, or if it's only a jest, as the entire population of Vizicce dresses up just as monstrous. The towns and cities are decorated as spooky, abandoned haunts, festival foods are prepared (stomach-churning in appearance, but most are actually delicious once processed through their foodratrs), and most jobs and other mundane activities of natives are suspended. It is mandatory for foreigners to dress up as monsters- those that don't are not allowed to stay on the planet, 'for their own safety'.

Due to the hospitable nature of the Vizicciens (and the economic boom because of the influx of foreigners at this time- credits spent on lodging, transportation, and wares), if one asks nicely, most are willing to give away their festival foods for free. In addition to 'treats', 'tricks' are also encouraged around the cities, general mischievousness more lighthearted in nature. Anything too serious, of course, would be dealt with by law enforcement, and foreigners that get too rowdy are shuttled off the planet.

Botanically speaking during Mittiv, crimson pigments seep into the normally autumn-colored foliage, giving off the illusion of everything being tainted in blood. This even extends to grown fruits and vegetables. The moon, too, takes on a bloody hue similar to our bloodmoon, and it, combined with a lunar eclipse-like effect from a smaller ancient satellite, gives the appearance of a red, gleaming eye.

Just a ref until I can find something better!

Feel free to use dice in your RPs-

If festival food is eaten, roll a 1d6:
1: The foodratr used was defective. Unfortunately, you're beginning to feel a bit ill.
2: What's that shadow moving over there? Was that- was that one of them? The foodratr used was defective- you're convinced some of the 'monsters' around town are actually real.
3: Why does everything look so colorful and so… so nice? The foodratr used was defective (or… not?). You're beginning to feel nicely euphoric.
4: Congratulations. The food tastes delicious!
5: The foodratr used was defective (or… not?). You begin to feel very, very drunk.
6: Congratulations. The food tastes delicious!

If your character is not wearing a costume (or just has a bad one on), roll a 1d3:

1: One of the locals sees you, and offers you a costume of their own, insisting that you wear it (these, of course, can look like anything!).
2: Better get running! Law enforcement has spotted you.
3: You'd better really get running. One of the 'monsters' has spotted you.

Word on the dark sectors of the street is that the Dread Cult is planning something nefarious on Vizicce, during Mittonbur.

If you'd like to join in on this side-event rp, use this doodle to vote which days work best for you. Whichever day has the most votes by Tuesday, the 16th, at midnight will be the day the event is held on. If two days are tied, the sooner date wins out (if there is a large amount of people wanting to participate or if one day really doesn't work for someone, we can also split the rp up into two separate groups and/or times).
