How do you feel about the show? That’s my only exposure to The Magicians.

Sorry I haven't seen the show!
It's D-11 and I can't wait to whip myself to write. XD

I was also under the mistaken impression that they were shipping out an author from America, but he actually lives in Sydney so he wasn't travelling that far XD

Ooh I was wondering about that I didn't know how long but I trusted you'd tell us. Not read none of levs books but at your description I will!

Sorry it was cancelled though 💜

O.O 😱🫣

@Four, congrats. At work I’d say, yes, one less….

@Claine, without chance of renewal ? They could import from Europe too 🤔

No chance of rebooking :( they even gave me free tickets to a different event in the festival.

I'd also be happy to learn under a European author. Maybe Andrzej Sapkowski, I've read the entire Witcher series!

But I think his English isn't very good 🤔 Maybe I need to learn Polish.
Do you know any other languages, Claine?

I swear I've been trying to learn Spanish for years but my ability to communicate in it does not reflect. 😆
I lived in Japan for a good few years, but in the years after I left I've forgotten so much 😭

Well that is sad, I’m trying to learn a tiny bit of Japanese… vainly.

Japanese kanji is the hardest... I only can understand hiragana. 🤣

I can teach you all Korean, if anyone wants or Indonesian at best lol

I would love to know some fun or useful phrases in Indonesian or Korean.
Oooh. I don't know I could ever learn a language with a different alphabet. I mean a few extra letters like ñ sure but I already struggle with English and that's my first language. 😂 So honestly - all of y'all - impressive!

I learned ASL in high school and I still am fairly fluent I think ( conversationally at least) and I feel like I only did so well because it's not a written language.

This is what I use daily (I find it useful enough for me! 🤣)

배고파 죽겠다!
How to read the hangul: Baegopa juggetda.
Indonesian: Laper banget mau mati!
Translation: I’m so hungry I could die.

I found those who can use ASL is cool! I'm also trying to learn ASL since last year!

This is truely the most important phrase.
I’ve always had some attraction for
Languages, I do speak and write quite fluently five languages. That’s why my English is so weird, I mix them all up and use wrong or simply translated phrases, that might be confusing.
I’m trying Hiragana, but I need to practice more. Traditional or even simplified Chinese is just impossible, Pinyin is hard enough (whǒ huì shuǒ ydian’r chong wén, if I remember well).
And now you propose Korean? Yes of course, sure, why not add Cyrillic…. But first I need to improve my Japanese and Italian…
Deaf sign language is really cool, learning has been on my ‘to do’ list since long, but I don’t know in which language.

I'm gonna spend all day committing this to memory.

I have a friend who is fluent in a few languages and he's definitely increased my love for them. As said I doubt my ability to learn, but I'll watch his streams or we'll watch movies with subtitles in different languages he loves it.

Maybe it'll rub off on me. 😆

But yes it's ver fascinating and learning tidbits here and there like other cultures and their relation to language and how they use it.

Uhm...

like sign language is more facial expressions than the words. If you get close to the word but respond with the right facial expressions it's pretty easy to be understood.

Or in Spanish there's several ways to say almost the same thing depending on your relationship to someone and how much you feel that, I don't know Spanish, but I feel would leave less room for communication errors! But won't know
.. until I study... Okay I'll do that today 😆

Huuuuge mood ʕ´• ᴥ•̥`ʔ I used to be around N3 level a couple of years ago, but it has deteriorated so much since I don't use it actively much anymore. I really enjoyed studying though, it's like a puzzle.

Gotta focus on Dutch now for practical reasons, though. But maybe I'll find the time to squeeze some kanji in edgewise. Sigh.

Whereabouts did you live though?

Als het u blieft, kunt u vragen, voor mij is Nederlandsch geen Probleem. Maar goed, ik heb nooit echt mijn taal geleerd, dus het zou kunnen zijn dat ik fouten maak. Het is mijn moedertaal. <G>
