Donovan smiled And so the student becomes the teacher, well spoken she was smart too the back of his mind whispered.

The story of Hurish goes on. The city they left was conquered and destroyed. He faced more trials, and difficulties, even his own brothers turning on him later. The choice for Hurish's father to leave the city was indeed easy. He valued the word of the Gods over that of his townspeople. For Hurish it was difficult to leave a life of means, friends, and everything he knew. The trials he later faced though made him strong- not in physical stature, power, or prestige, but in conviction. He became a great leader of people in time. he sat up and faced Callista.

You ARE that strong, and as you pursue it, no matter the trials and challenges, staying true to your conviction will make your choices easy.
”I would love to hear more of the trials of Hurish sometime, he sounds like a fine man. I suppose if his father was the one who made the choice for him, it would be difficult but there seems to be a lesson in there about trusting your elders as well. One story and so many lessons,” she smiled. ”Thank you, it is good to know that my friends believe me to be strong even when I do not feel so. Who could be a better judge of your character than those who are close to you?”
Indeed, M'Lady. I will tell you more of Hurish and other stories of the stars at your pleasure. It is odd, but they are quite different from the actual history of my land, but such is the way with legends.

He stood up and offered and hand to Callista

May I help you up, my Lady? It has gotten late, and we should see you back to your tent
”Yes, thank you,” she said allowing him to help her rise. Something seemed a bit different about him but she assumed that it was because they were becoming more familiar and much of the tedious protocol of the courts was falling away. It was nice to have people around she had to feel less guarded with even if it was only in little moments outside of their normal lives. ”I look forward to the next lesson. Perhaps you can teach me how to tell a story in your language.”
As you wish.

And he and their escort walked her back to her tent next to the Prince's.
In all the commotion between the attack on their encampment and the exaltation that had occurred it wasn’t until they were well back in the city that any additional language instruction could occur.
The princesses request to learn to tell a story in his language vexed him. Languages he undertood well enough, but the nuances of what made a tale from An-Tir compared to how a tale was told in other lands was beyond his area of experience. Not wanting to fail the princess he had spent a lot of time outlining the tales he knew and comparing them for structural differences to the texts available in the palace library. In the end it way Mercy who had the right answer.
As they rode along the trail Donovan expressed his exasperation on the matter.
Just have her tell a story. Any story she wants. When she gets to a word she doesn’t know you teach that. When there is a say’n that would fit the situation you explain it. Easy as pie.
Donovan sat in silence for a moment and then broke out in a full body laugh.
Very good, Sister Mercy. Very good indeed
Ifn she wants to hear more stories from our land we tell er Ladyship some, only we tell ‘em the proper way in our language en she has to figure out the meanin. That a way she’d be practicing as well. You jus have to let er interrupt you when she as questions.
Really, I had thought we would start on reading, now that a good base of speaking was established
Oh, I already started her on that!
What!? Donovan started in surprise
Yeh, jus before we left, while I was doin the Princesses hair, she had mentioned that. So since she was interested in stories I have her the only book I had.
The manual on arms is your?
No. The book by Kōshoku Ichidai Onna
Oh no he groaned
Oh jus because you don like the title don mean its no good. ‘sides we women like books like that she grinned sideways at him.
The trip to find the Ogun’s wayward God seemed as good of a time to attempt to read the book Mercy had given her. There was always a bit of time she could look at jt when they stopped for the evenings even if she only managed to translate a sentence or two before having to reread a bit so that she could understand the meanings of the passages.

After about the third night she found Donovan by the campfire and joined him with the transcript in hand. ”What does the phrase ’iki keçirilib intim söhbət' mean? It seems to have something to do with talking but in the context it is a bit confusing.”
iki keçirilib intim söhbət... that could be conversation. What is the context?
"Well, the lady met with the hermit at his home and he spent the evening entertaining her, I think. This part is 'qaranlıq sonra'.. which is at nightfall if I remember our lesson on times of the day correctly. Then the passage 'iki keçirilib intim söhbət', which didn't make and sense to repeat that he was hosting." Callista pointed out the paragraph in the book.
he scooted closer and leaned over to read where she pointed. mumble... mumble... Yes, I see. The author seems to use a lot of metaphor for terms.... ah. Here we are: the two of them held intimate converse. he backed up a few lines.

"The evening passed in many pleasant entertainments. [/color] He looked up at Callista Correctly understood, well done. then turned back to the text

When darkness fell, the two of them held intimate converse and soon had pledged their fervent vows. . I think there is the problem. söhbət- conversation. I can see why this is confusing. The author is using this in a more
he waved his hand as he tried to find the right word colorful metephor. Much like the high tongue's: Congress, which can have multiple meanings given the context... So they were holding intimate congress. he said with triumph having solved the problem, pointing at the text.
Then he paused, realization at what he had said sinking in. Quickly he continued reading Retiring, then, to bed, they exhausted their ingenuity in making this into "a thousand nights"" [/i] he finished in one breath and then exhaled. Had the fire suddenly started producing more heat?
As he interpreted the text she nodded in concentration trying to connect the words on the page to their meanings. It took her a second after he finished translating the last line to realize exactly what the book was implying the couple was doing and the amount they were doing it. ”Oh!” Callista straightened up and pressed her lips together to suppress a giggle but nothing could hide the shade of rose her face turned. Slowly she closed the book and placed it on her lap, folding her hands politely over it as if that would hide the embarrassing passage. ”Thank you, I think I can manage the rest,” Callista said a bit primly. The princess decided then that if she needed any more help translating the book she would go to Mercy even if she wasn’t her instructor.
She seemed to be as embarrassed as he was by the passage, but composed herself much better Callista, I’m sorry. he turned to face her. A part of him wanted to go on about the difficulties of relationships in An-Tir, but that would just be beating a dead horse. It wasn’t like she needed to know all of their problems when she wouldn’t ever have to personally deal with it. Then again he didn’t realize how relationships were addressed outside his kingdom either. The real fact was, it was just like he said. He was sorry. He never wanted to cause her even the slightest embarrassment. Not because of her station, not because of common decency. But because she was Callista. I didn’t mean to cause you any embarrassment. He had thought of the book as lewd, but it had never occurred to him that it might even be offensive. She placed so much value of family, and here was a book about a courtesan.
”There is nothing time apologize for Donovan. It is just a book, even if the passages are a bit… daring. I like to know how other people live. While it is certainly different, it is a book about something I will never experience and isn't that what books are for? I can't go about ruling a kingdom ignorant about how others live.” She said. It wasn't the courtesan lifestyle that interested her, it was how free and passionate the woman was with her love that had caught her interest but she very well couldn't admit that out loud. Callista didn't even know if the Khal still expected her to marry one of the princes now that she was Exalted. The Unconquered Sun had bid her to lead and she didn't see any way of doing so for her kingdom without binding herself to one of them.
Good one, He thought. She has a wise mystic, and a dashing bravo, it must be his place to serve as the fool. He musn’t confuse his own embarrassment with her own. Well spoken. I hope you continue to read then. Perchance our new found status will afford you the opportunity to travel and see the many kingdoms that make up the greater whole, or even travel outside of it. I for one, one day hope to travel to see the imperial mountain and the frozen northlands. My own time in your homeland has been a broadening and enlightening experience for which I am the better for and will always be grateful. I hope your travels abroad will be just as enriching he smiled. I hope you enjoy the rest of the book
