EmmaCP

Hello, I'm Emma.

Though I've done only a little formal roleplaying, I have always been greatly interested in stories and characters, and love to be involved with stories that are engaging and moving. If I like a story, I want it to be entirely well-rounded ”” in setting, in characters, in plot.

My favorite kinds of stories are the ones that combine intricate characterization with moving storylines. It doesn't have to have an epic scale, as purely close-and-personal stories are great too, but I want to be able to feel like what my characters are doing is important in some way. If I don't care about what the characters are doing, I'm not going to care about the story.

That said, here are my favorite genres:
”” science fiction: Space opera, military scifi, and supernatural scifi are my favorites, but I'm open to others as well. Settings may be historical, contemporary, or futuristic, whichever works. I'm not drawn to post-apocalyptic science fiction, but I might do it if I like the premise enough. Dystopia is great though.
”” fantasy: While I lean scifi, I enjoy fantasy a lot as well, but the fantasy elements should be as rigorously defined as you would expect the tech in science fiction to be. No wishy-washy, deus-ex-machina magic, please.
”” historical: Only if it's well-researched history, though. I don't have a lot of patience for inaccuracy or anachronism.
”” other: I like the idea of doing modern crime or thriller stories, though I haven't thought as much about creating these kinds of stories, so I imagine it would require a learning curve.

Though it's not exactly a "genre", I also really love stories with strong historical or mythological influence, or which takes inspiration from various cultures to create new ones. If you have anything like that, I'm interested in hearing about it.

There are some genres I will not do:
Academy or school stories, animal or anthro, slave, smut, incest, yaoi (gay characters are fine, but I have absolutely no interest in the yaoi genre), anything with very explicit sexual content. Though I have no problem with romance, I'd rather not do romance for the sake of romance ”” I would rather start with one of my preferred genres, and let the romance develop naturally if it seems right.

If you have any other ideas that I haven't mentioned, just ask me.

My roleplaying style:
I write in a third-person paragraph style, with characters' thoughts, actions, and observations incorporated into the story the same way they would in a novel. This means that most posts will be several sentences long, but I have no rule about length. Posts should have exactly the words they need, and effective is more important than long.

I tend to vary my style of voice depending on what feels right for the story. I might use italics to represent thoughts, but I might not, depending on what feels right for the story and style. Still, if you see anything italicized and in first-person, it's probably a character's thoughts, just as a heads-up.

As for content, I'm going to quote Allyne, whose RP style strongly influences mine:
If I had to give my RPs a rating, they'd probably be rated R for violence, sex, drugs, language, the whole shebang. Just don't confuse "sex" with "hardcore explicit". My philosophy, under most circumstances, is that "once the pants come off, we're skipping through the rest of it".

Most importantly:
I want my stories to be realistic. This doesn't mean "only stuff in the real world" (see my favorite genres). It means that I don't have patience for stories that throw out logic. If characters are doing things that don't make sense or acting in a way that real people would never do, or if there is not even basic research or thought put into the setting, culture, time period, weapons, etc., that's unrealistic, and I will lose interest in the story.

Also, don't be afraid of plot twists! You don't have to tell me everything my characters don't know! I will be able to play more naturally and have more fun if there are some things I don't know.

Rave Reviews

I may be biased, on account of EmmaCP being my real-life sister, but she is awesome.

She's new to role play, but she's a great writer and has plenty ideas floating around in that scattered brain of hers. Playing with her is sure to be a rich and thoroughly interesting experience. - Allyne
