Thornmouth’s standing military is a well-disciplined force that watches over the city at all given hours of the day. It comprises three major divisions: The City Guard, The Faewatch, and The Royal Guard. While all three answer to the Chief, they otherwise operate independently of one another with distinct responsibilities and their own captains. They are summarized alongside a listing of local laws in Law & Order.
Thornmouth has a standing military of roughly 500 volunteer soldiers and tends to always have space for new applicants. In order to avoid the need for conscription they offer many benefits, including lodging, training, and pay. There are many opportunities to rise in the ranks! However, due to these benefits they see a high turnover rate once those who joined for them reach the end of their one-year contracts.
It is a job that even new immigrants can apply for, who can use it to expedite their track to citizenship after only three months (it takes a full year to naturalize unless one buys property, marries an existing citizen, or joins certain guilds).
APPLYING
This application works a little differently than most - it can be either an IC or OOC submission, being applied to by a preexisting character, or the proposal of a new character (recommended for higher ranked characters and the royal guard). We are also a little more strict with these applications than most others.
It is a role with a lot of expectations to follow - your character will have legal authority to police others and as a player, you are expected to know the laws of the kingdom so you can apply them accordingly!
The Royal Guard
With such strict duties and stationing, a royal guard is typically likely to make better NPC than PC. While we welcome an application for those in this division, we ask careful consideration from the player first. These characters must be new and tailored for the setting with a history of having made their way up in the ranks or having been invited to join through extraordinary merit and/or circumstances. It is very difficult to get into The Royal Guard and their lives essentially revolve around protection of the castle grounds and royal family. A member of the expansive City Guard or even those in Faewatch will have a much easier time being part of their community, as roleplay scenes will very rarely occur in high ranking spaces (the court, government officials, and monarchy being largely restricted character types).
