Dragons
The First Race

It is uncertain when the dragons first arrived in Hy-Brazir, but in the ages before the First Fall they were numerous and widespread. They were the dominant form of life, but in their sentience were alone until the mages came. When the moon was shattered and the first of its debris burnt through the atmosphere, they lost much of their kind and history in the subsequent age of turmoil. It was the arrival of other peoples through the first moongates that drove them into the areas surrounding the Central Sea as nations began to spread across the lands of Hy-Brazir. While there is much to suggest that they are wholly native and they themselves insist on such, the planet was known to somehow be a nexus of worlds even before the First Fall. There is every chance they came from somewhere else, but such knowledge is lost to even the longest lived of the great reptiles. Whatever the case it is indisputable they were here long, long before the elves, the dwarves, and all other 'lesser' creatures. They also feel distinctly at home here, their abilities and health naturally improved in the areas surrounding the Central Region.

When the wizards vanished amidst their fighting and the first fragments of the great moon fell, the elves took their place in history alongside the dragons. The elves had been a group of fae that arrived after the first falling and took to worshiping them as gods and rightful rulers of the planet. When the rest of faekind arrived to populate the realm at their beckoning, they too took to either worshipping the dragons or at least giving the due respect. The dragons are less inclined to trust the mundane, especially humans and dwarves (their escaped slaves turned slayers), having been hunted throughout history for 'cures' or 'medicines' that their bodies unfortunately do provide. In the east dragon parts are valuable and provided by the dwarves.

In the war some sided with the fae and in significant numbers taken down by trebuchets and the like. In their need to patrol personal territories and conflict with the dwarves to the east, they rarely venture too far south anymore. Yet they still watch carefully from Penmoor Keep and can sometimes be seen flying in the distance across the coasts; on rare occasion, one or two, or even a full flight of dragons will fly over the capital city of Thornmouth. While they don't dare attack they do seem watching while other times they seem to be headed far, far out to sea. There are some who theorize that there are other dragon islands or moon gates south that haven't been discovered (there are very few who have survived to go too far north or south into the great sea).

Penmoor and the Central Sea is governed by a dragon king and a dragon queen as is typical in dragon communities. They are ancient moon dragons and haven't been seen by mortal eyes in many, many years, rarely leaving their large volcanic nest. While many dragons are speculated to be descendants of them, or even part of their 'recent' broods, moon dragons are a royal breed of exceedingly rare status.
