The Gila Dragon was the final boss of Epic Week 2023 and displayed a total of 6 damage states (included its original state, an enraged state, and an exhausted state) as the battle progressed. The tendency for bosses to hit hard and knock players out of battle fast had players eager to defeat the Gila Dragon, until the appearance of its final "exhausted" state proved cute and sad-looking enough for a number of players to petition that the Gila Dragon get similar treatment as the Many-Headed Cyborg Dragon from 2015 — spared and sent to the Dragon Ranch for rehabilitation — while others simply remained eager to defeat it. The Gila Dragon's status following its defeat is not yet known.

Teamwork

Image of the Gila Dragon hunched forward and roaring while a mixed walrus company stands against it, some attacking with magic and lasers.
There was a relatively good chance that each time a player attacked the Gila Dragon, their walrus company would join them in the attack, dealing their own damage. When appearing, the walrus company always went first, before initiative was even rolled, allowing small hits to be made even if the player couldn't get a hit in themself.

The flavor text in the battle readout displayed a variety of messages about which walrii were doing something notable. Examples include:
  • [Walrus Company]'s mech walruses provide protection while the spell casting walruses launch a volley of magical attacks.
  • [Walrus Company]'s sabretoothed walruses slash Gila Dragon with their giant tusks.
  • [Walrus Company]'s fancy and dandy walruses serve so hard that Gila Dragon is self conscious about not being properly accessorized.
  • [Walrus Company] charge all together, unleashing their various abilities in devastating combos.
  • Botched roll! [Walrus Company] let out war bellows. Many of them are distracted by trying to top one another's bellow volume and forget to attack with the rest of the company.

Walrus company appearances are separate from pet walrus appearances, which are defensive and only appear after an enemy's attack. The name of the walrus company depends on what a player named the company Moa provided for that player to captain in the walrus-captaining game.
